In the South Korean version of the movie, the credits show various water colored animated images before the scrolling credits are shown. In the English version, they are replaced with stills from the movie.
It became the first Korean animated film to play at Chinese theaters, opening at 3,000 screens, which is over one-third of the country's total. Clearly elated at the film's warm reception by the Chinese media, director Oh said he hoped this breaks new ground as investors traditionally judge projects based on their appeal to viewers in English-speaking countries. "It's time to change the standard," he said. "In the future, I'll focus more on the cultural values of the animation rather than giving too much emphasis to the business aspect."
Historically, South Korean animated movies performed dismally at the box office, but Leafie on the other hand managed to make 2.2 million tickets while recouping it's production budget in just four weeks, making it the highest grossing animated film in the country since A Story of Hong Gildong, which came out 44 years earlier.
Stacey DePass and Christian Potenza previously co-starred in the Nelvana series 6teen.
The third South Korean animated film to be released in the United States. The first being My Beautiful Girl, Mari and the second being Sky Blue.
