Inside: The Real Bonnie and Clyde (2009)
*** (out of 4)
This is a nice, 50-minute documentary shining the spotlight on the real Clyde Barrow and Bonnie Parker. If you're only familiar with the Warren Beatty and Faye Dunaway movie then you're in for a real treat because you're going to notice how much stuff was rearranged for the movie. We start the story off here as Bonnie is sent to prison working in Barrow's gang and then when she's out is when Clyde really starts to pump up their robberies. Things get even more heated when they're able to steal a bunch of machine guns and this is when stuff gets a lot more violent and deadly. The documentary goes though some of the duos most famous robberies but it also has a new bit of history of Blanche Barrow, Buck's wife, apparently left a diary to one of her friends that she wrote while in prison. This diary shines a light on what made Clyde click and there's an interesting story of where his first murder really was. Overall this is a good documentary if you're interested in the gang and want to see how much the movie changed. We get some nice interviews with experts as well as surviving members of the actual people, which was nice.
