I watched this doc a few nights back, staying up late into the night to it's completion. It then struck me-if not for the foresight of family members many many years ago, I too could have been born and raised in that hole for a country. After repeated visits to my 'ancestral' homeland, I still can't fathom how they manage to survive. I mean you see the allure of the island, partially inspired by late night commercials of fun in the sun, where europeans splash and dance, etc. All while a melodic soundtrack lulls the senses into believing you're in heaven on earth. But this film still only just scratches the surface of what these children face hourly, never mind daily.
I would like to film an updated version in the spirt of this documentary and show all the blood-letting, raping and killing in this tiny little piece of paradise in the western hemisphere for what it really is.
Then, lobby school boards, travel agencies and government to go ahead and continue to make like this island is just a happy-go-lucky laid back reggae playing paradise for travellers.
Rather than the living hell on earth it is for children.
