Edgar Allan Poe's hauntingly sad tale of lost love and doomed romance gets a respectful and imaginative adaptation by director Ron Morante, who offers an inspired and inventive combination of live action and still photographs. The shots of waves crashing against the sea are quite striking while the woman who plays Annabel Lee is stunningly beautiful. Moreover, the sequence with Annabel Lee being nailed inside a coffin proves to be genuinely nightmarish, with blood dripping right on the camera lens at one point. Narrated with characteristic plummy aplomb by Vincent Price and elegantly scored by Hal Borne, it's well worth a watch by Poe fans.
