Truly terrible everything
They did a good job with their very limited budget, but that's the only positive thing I can think of. The acting was tremendously bad, I know people who are depressed or otherwise hiding an internal struggle who do a better job every day.

It would have helped to hire someone who knows the first thing about survival, but apparently making a survival movie where the survival aspect is anything close to accurate or genuine is WAY too much effort for studios who'd rather lose money on the movie instead of risk making something of quality.

I'm getting very tired seeing terrible writers, actors, directors, everything ruin the survival genre so that large studios think it can't be profitable for larger audience.

End of the world romance
BandSAboutMovies10 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
In the aftermath of an apocalyptic event, Emily (Paige McGarvin, Shark Season) and Cara (Sofia Masson, Girls Getaway Gone Wrong 2) are seemingly the only two survivors of an ocean liner wreck. They wash up on a gorgeous island -- the film was made in Belize -- and start to build a new life for themselves and even fall in love. But this heaven on earth is changed when Finn (Samuel Braun) shows up, casting their future in doubt. Does he really know where other survivors are? Or does he have bad intentions for both of them?

Directed and written by Ilyssa Goodman, this film actually doesn't come across as exploitative in its romantic elements and doesn't even try to set up that Finn can break up Emily and Cara. It allows both women to come across as strong and capable in the face of danger and the unknown, while also allowing love to break through how neither of them has ever been able to make love last before.

Seeing as how Tubi has been making sequels to several of their films, I can definitely see more of their adventures in the future. I have to say that this is one of the more high quality originals that has been on the streaming service.

[3.8] The mini island with a waterfall !
cjonesas9 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
An incredibly bad entertaining movie that its 90 minutes passed by at 2.5x 120 km/h. It's so bad that I wonder what alien made this production, it's empty like a fossil shell empty. Even the romance is empty, the unfortunate boy is feverish empty encountering such witches that left him with a hole.

The only thing missing is a bunch of baby Megalodon and prehistoric octopuses to make holes in turn into the in-love witches.

Not a typical apocalyptic movie
yolanda-6630916 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Are there any good movies that came out of 2023?

The trailer, like most trailers, makes it seem more intriguing than it is.

This should be characterized as a romantic adventure dramatic movie.

Pretty predictable in what happens. Especially for 2023 only because there are tons of these movies now that portray a woman as the hero and the one that saves the day. Which is fine, women can be badass as anyone. But the Acting is flat and dull. And for being stranded on a deserted island they till look hot and are accessorizing their outfits with jewelry .

It just fell short, the characters are jut not that interesting, too boring and maybe more believable if the mom who was said to be the survivalist type to head the group, but that would have ruined the romance part of it. Which for whatever reasons people feel is ended for a Thriller/horror movies.

Pretty misleading
tkell3112 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
When I read post apocalyptic thriller the first thing that comes to mind is not a lesbian romance. Actually that wasnt in the top 100. Why not just package it that way? Because I was expecting a completely different type movie I found it pretty dull. The acting was pretty stiff at first, but improved as the movie progressed. Another survivor is introduced giving it a bit of a Z for Zacarhia feel as the triangle creates trouble in paradise.

As the other reviewer indicated. It is set in paradise. Beautiful setting with gorgeous water and beaches. Problem is that gives it the least possible post apocalyptic feel possible, and more of a straight romantic drama. So if that is what you are in the mood for you will enjoy it more than I did.

On the other hand the man comes in and pretty quickly demonstrates he's stronger and more capable so even the target audience might take issue. Overall pretty bland entry into whatever genre this is.

Absolute Rubbish
pev_612 June 2023
Why or who describes these movies. Firstly I'm so over watching movies for the LGBTQ community. What has that got to do with anything else. This film is boring, nothing to do with the end of the world, it's just a load of wasted time. Don't bother unless you have troubles sleeping as this so called movie will help you sleep. Time I'll never get back. If you want to watch a pathetic lesbian version of Blue Lagoon, then this is the one for you. If you want to watch a film that has no substance then again this is for you.

4 people on a boat and one asks the other after stranded who are you? As if they didn't get to meet each other earlier. It's just so poorly written.

Wtf?! Another Tubi Wreck.. No Pun
snassimi14 March 2023
A Bad Plot + Terrible Writing + Abysmal Acting = Watch at your own risk!

There was potential at the very beginning, but drastically faded as the movie played on.

The acting by was so bad, it actually seemed like a blooper reel. There was absolutely no depth or any sort of emotion whatsoever.

The writing and plot topped off the disaster. It felt like the movie was made over the weekend with no emphasis on the characters or storyline.

I'm surprised they weren't watching tv on the beach, with a chef and bartender... lol

For the people who do somehow like the 'movie', I would guess it only has to do with certain scenes.

You've been warmed! 😁

Proof That We're Getting Dumber
MongoLloyd19 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I am appalled that something like this can get greenlit, but then this IS really just another in a long line of absurdly dumb movies that seem to be overwhelming MOD streaming platforms lately. Every facet of this film is proof that we're collectively getting dumber and dumber as a society.

Someone actually wrote a script that featured a protagonist who immediately started doing push ups in a boat the moment a storm set in, as if that would somehow prepare her for an impending shipwreck.

Then they created a tiny tropical island, well populated with various forms of fruit, coconuts, fish, fresh water, and of course random stuff that occasionally washes ashore, because if we've learned anything from Gilligan's Island...

The leads appear to be escapees from the phone case kiosk at the Del Amo Fashion Center whose characters predictably fall in love because if we've learned anything from Blue Lagoon...

Ultimately kinda amateurish but still a fun watch
Princess_Bella_Kitty15 March 2023
I've been binge-watching girl loves girl movies and shows for several months now. Girl making out with girl love scenes are the most passionate lovemaking scenes imaginable. Forget the dirty stuff ... just the longing glances and the loving embraces and the passionate kissing and the mere touching of fingers. You'd be hard-pressed to find this kind of passion in normal boy/girl scenes.

Castaways is about in the middle-of-the-road when rating it against other girl loves girl movies. Just to help any readers out, IMO, if you want to see the top notch lesbian movies, try 'You Can Live Forever', 'Elena Undone', 'More Beautiful for Having Been Broken', 'Loving Annabelle', or "Kiss Me', for starters.

That said, Castaways isn't a bad movie. The leads are pretty and decent actresses with good bodies. The story is interesting even if it is a little amateurish. The dialog (which can take a movie down) isn't too immature and, for the most part, was convincing. The chemistry between the two leads wasn't fantastic but it was mostly believable.

The "funniest" part about this movie are the voluminous flaws throughout the film. There are far too many to mention but the two most notable ones were- Sooo many times, when the actresses were on the beach, I kept feeling sorry for them cuz they were in the hot sun. But then, as the dialog went back and forth between the leads, the closeups almost all had the actresses in the shade. And yet they were twenty yards from the closest tree.

The second glaring flaw was about 10 or 15 minutes into the movie, there is a big boat in the background. This isn't a spoiler, it is just a giant boat parked a couple of hundred yards away. I started laughing and my bf didn't believe me so we actually rewound the stream to witness this odd boat (having nothing to do with this movie) again. Then my bf started laughing.

In summary, even for all its flaws, I enjoyed watching Castaways. To me, the best recommendation that I could give you is, why you ask, did I recommend some of the above movies when I say that Castways was more mediocre. It's because every single one of the above recommended movies made me weep with emotion. Not cuz they're all sad but they evoked love or heartache or emotional pain or heaven on earth. In the end, at the end of Castaways, I was just thinking about what I was gonna cook for dinner.

Thanks Tubi for the fun watch!
anitacliffordspam16 March 2023
What a fun watch! Cara and Emily had such a light-hearted and natural connection during the entire film. They complimented and paired so nicely with each other.

However, I loved Cara (Sofia)!! She is so talented and I am so looking forward to all upcoming films she will be casted in. She is mesmerizing!!

The scenery of the film was beautiful and the ending was not what I expected it to be! I was kept on my feet the entire film and was anxious to see how it was going to turn out! Overall, it was a pleasure-able and enjoyable film that I would recommend and watch again. Thanks Tubi for the fun watch!

No blue lagoon, Tom Hanks or Willow in sight
kosmasp25 April 2023
No pun intended - also no Friday and other stuff you may remember from movies with a similar theme. On the other hand you do get two lovely (very good looking) women ... this may check a lot of boxes for those watching horror/thriller movies like this one. And before you cry that you may want to have a handsome fellow in there too ... well there is one.

Now the core are the two females though - don't expect this to show anything - too enticing. This keeps everything at a PG level. You can love someone and live with someone and no one will ever see your skin I reckon. No pun intended - because what lies beneath is two quite gullible individuals ... so gullible you may feel the need to shake them up and ask them, if they seriously are that oblivious ... anyway, I've seen worse movies and this looks good (women and location wise that is) - so there is that (cinematography) and all that.

Absolute trash!
ingridhughes2 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
So Cara finds Emily lying on the beach, unconscious, after exploring "most of the island" and revives her with a few chest compressions. Apparently, Cara missed exploring the part of the island where the other passengers on the boat ended up.

And though there's a good chance Emily's mother is dead, Emily doesn't seem to mourn her loss at all.

And after weeks on a tropical island, neither of the girls has a tan much less sunburn.

Emily somehow has the skill of a spear fisher and gets a fish on her first try, with a blunt stick.

When Emily does find her mother's body, she still doesn't shed a tear.

And her spear fishing skills come through for them again when she easily kills the young man who intrudes on their paradise with one thrust.

I think there was some stuff that happened in between those two events with the spear, but I can't say what, as I fell asleep.

Decent
cadenpolen8 August 2023
Before you dive into my review of this movie, I must disclose two factors that influenced my perception. Firstly, Robinson Crusoe is my all-time favorite story, which naturally predisposed me to like this movie from the beginning. Secondly, I have a fondness for apocalyptic movies of all kinds, further adding to my initial positive bias. That being said, I found this film to be quite enjoyable. In fact, I've already watched it three times over the past three months.

However, after my most recent viewing last night, I noticed that the movie's charm has somewhat diminished. Upon reflection, I believe this feeling is largely attributed to the nostalgia associated with the movie as a whole, particularly the soundtrack, which, in my opinion, beautifully captures the essence of music from the past decade or so.

While my initial predisposition due to my love for Robinson Crusoe and apocalyptic movies led me to find this film decent and enjoyable, repeated viewings have revealed certain shortcomings. Despite its appealing soundtrack and nostalgic elements, I must admit that upon closer examination, much of the story throughout this movie lacks direction and substance.

Mesmerized by Cara
berylliu-6276412 March 2023
Cara was the highlight of the film for me. I believe the actress who portrayed her is Sofia. Her performance was so powerful in bringing more depth to the relationship and arch into the film. Not only that, her own character story was so poignant that really moved me when she spoke about her past. There was so much specificity and clarity of thought that really provided so much backbone to the central story of this film. It was intriguing to watch her subtle and nuanced expressions throughout the film that conveyed so much subtext and emotions that could not be spoken. Can't wait to see her future works now!!!

GREAT FOR WHAT IT IS
grcqdpf15 March 2023
Honestly kept me on the edge of my seat and the lead 3 actors (the two girls and the guy) were great.

The movie took unexpected turns and I was engaged the entire time. I thought the girl who played Cara was a great actress and she had great chemistry with her costar. Both girls were really solid. The guy who played Finn was also a solid actor and he and Cara had some really great scenes together.

The movie's ending was kind of sudden and I hope to see a second movie as it ended with some room to expand the story.

Overall, I was really entertained by Castaways and I thought the Island was a really look location too. I wonder where they filmed the movie.

I want to go to that place
nkyffxfbq15 March 2023
It is a very nice location, made me want to go there and explore and it looked a lot like the first episode of Outer Banks 3rd season where they are stranded on an island but seemed to be doing pretty well The acting was great, the story was entertaining and somewhat current with the COVID pandemic and the "last of us" apocalyptic premise.

Unfortunately there were some flaws that should have been and could have been easily avoided in the editing room, such as the big sailing boat docked on the background of a "supposedly" deserted Island and the microphones taped on the back of the main characters.
