Air Ace is just a light funny (truly funny) short animated Bulgarian film. It has everything that the 1950s-1960s cartoons had to entertain the public: they were both for children and adults, had white humour, a great main character, impossible situations, error-and-trial to no end, a great ending, and barely any or no words.

The animation of Air Ace is plain 2D, almost vintage in its looks, but very effective. The story is well narrated and the main character well explored. The main question to ask is, why would a frog want to fly, and the story really tells us why. That doesn't make the situation less absurd, it makes it more credible.

Films like this remind me of how important the story and the way this is narrated are the most important thing for any animated film to succeed. I have seen gorgeous-looking CGI animated films that have no story or are poorly narrated and would never want to watch again. I'd rather have a film like Air Ace that makes me laugh and is truly-good cartoon making and the visuals are just OK.

You gotta love the silly frog in this story, because, truly, if he fails is not for lack of trying.
