Women's justice

Warning: Spoilers
Not an uninteresting tale, I would say the rather good story of a shrink, and also policeman superintendent's wife, who was raped and molested in her childhood by her father - with her sister - and who goes on rampage, killing men who do the same on their wives, and also patients of our lead. She commits all these murders with the help of a friend of hers. We know from the beginning that she is the assassin of those men. So, the whole film is built around this. Not bad at all, but this is unfortunately destined to housewives - desperate or not - and I am NOT a housewife. Many things smell the common audience between 6 and 11 pm. Editing, score, many unexplainable things. I hate this.

What a shame, because the lead character is very convincing.

Worth although.

Ridiculous and meaningless

The movie sucks. Ordinary and repetitive plot. The characters are cartoonish and predictable. It's the kind of film that impoverishes those who watch it.

Good small town and crime film.
stuka245 September 2012
Brazilian-born Cristiana Reali, always stunning, stars this film that depicts pretty well life in a small quiet French town. She is "Abigaël Valérie Marie Jourdan", daughter of the town's major, wife of the chief of police, has a regular practice as a psychiatrist in a posh office, a nice home, even helps at the local charity. François Berléand plays "Pierre", his devoted husband who, even when sulking a bit at night, asks for forgivance later. Then you have the secondary characters, their daughter Guillemette, who is studying medicine as her mum, and her sister Catherine Debroise, also working in Medicine, with some issues of her own that resonate on Marie's past (she's got a dependent personality, always justifying his violent partner, "Marco"). We see only one patient, beautiful "Adeline", and Valérie is duly concerned about her. And then we have the delightful grandma "Denise", all the family together at the town council when they uncover the statue of Valérie's father, the late major of the town. How lovely! But, as anybody that has seen any Chabrol movies, we know how to "look beneath the surface of bourgeoise respectability", to so speak :).

The only ones that "knows" Marie is her secretary, Julie, who of course uses that to her advantage with "Fred". Even "Hélène" (Carole Franck) the reliable police woman who works with the chief is at a loss, same as all the police, the regulars at the chapel, her own family and entourage, etc. This may be the only weak point, but overall the film is highly enjoyable. The plot is tight in the sense that there's nothing there that just shouldn't be.

Just one quibble: Marie's "conscience", although similar to her, also in her beauty, doesn't really look like a "young Marie" (she doesn't have fair eyes, her face is more square, etc.).

Music is quite interesting, gripping and also nice to listen to.

Enjoy it !

PS: Do not confuse this film with another one of the same name (...) from the year before http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1661388/.

Suspect ... or not to suspect
kosmasp17 November 2020
This isn't the best thriller I've ever seen, but it is more than decent in my book. Of course I understand that some people may have issues with certain things (it is overall predictable, though I thought one twist did work in its favor). The actors in this are really good and don't really convey a TV movie of the week feeling, but rather just a thriller movie kind of feeling.

Certain things may go a bit too smoothly and you may have issues connecting with certain characters and their choices - but that is all in the fun of the story and the experience watching it. If you are into thrillers, you are more likely to be enticed by this than others of course, but there is no guarantee how much you'll like it

Brilliant!!!

I loved everything about this made for french TV movie! Brilliant performances (esp. Christiana Reali), great camera-work, editing..suspenseful, intelligent, and interesting in that the crimes have a reason. it's understandable that the cop/husband would miss all the signs because of his love for his wife. The next time this airs on TV5MONDE it's a must see! I enjoyed every single scene in this complex extremely well directed and acted french drama! (:

The scenes in the nursing home were a nice extra, and the disabled young man is a future french movie star in the making (what's his name?). French filmmakers do the best thrillers in my opinion. I was emotionally involved in the story from the very first moment to the very end. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! (:

Sad and real ...

Warning: Spoilers
Films that start at the end, whose synopsis already delivers the main plot, it is as if it were a post-movie of a 'suspense' that the killer got along with, except for the lack of the surprise effect, we are left with the sincere drama of several women who suffered abuses, in which the majority are silent, omit, and affect other people, especially their children ... A good film, and a simple ending ... Sad and real ...
