Tense, tortuous - the trap
qualitysmart24 October 2017
Somewhat tense watching the trap , containing some tortuous events . The contrast between the two groups that feature in the movie adds to it engaging the audience. Just when you decide who & how many will survive - the trap triggers once more . Suggest watching on a rainy eve with a chilled beverage , tongue in cheek is the trap ....be assured to watch all credits .

I very nearly set my TV on fire after watching this.

If you like to watch poorly written, shoddily acted, badly directed, low budget drudgery then this might be worth an hour and twenty minutes of your time. If not, you might just end up like me: hypnotised and wondering if this whole thing was just a means of laundering dirty money.

I'm still not sure which was worse: the script - which can be redrafted again and again, virtually for free, before resources have to be committed to it and unlucky actors have to take a crack at it - or the budget, which seemed to be just enough to pay for a basket of gaffer tape and paint from Wickes, and a few tins of spaghetti hoops from Aldi.

I've rated it four stars because at least it's more coherent than a malarial fever dream. However, I'm now feeling inspired to contract malaria.

Indie thrills in a Victorian bathhouse
Leofwine_draca24 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
THE TRAP is a very low budget indie thriller with a tongue in cheek feel. It's a British effort set within the confines of an abandoned Victorian bathhouse which is a pretty atmospheric locale. Two teams of people enter the building; one are a group of innocents on a team-building exercise, the others ruthless thieves looking for loot. Violence invariably erupts between the two sides. When you get a clichéd jump scare in the first minute of the film you know you're in trouble and I'm afraid this amateurish effort fails to convince throughout.

Lame comedic attempt at a "horror" film
jmbovan-47-16017312 November 2020
Reportedly played for laughs, this is a low production attempt at a "trapped" in a building with death traps attempt at horror. Production overall is limp, as is the comedy and horror. Acting is hampered by plotting that is even less than one note. Pointless and lame. 2 stars simply because the actors did their best and were somewhat believable successing to the extent that they were their characters (even if they most were annoying or if not then insipid). Really nothing here to recommend to watch.

Fun horror comedy
lloydyb23 July 2019
The film starts off like a lame low budget horror but slowing the characterisation and humour insinuates itself and becomes genuinely funny. The characters are deliberately silly stereotypes but oddly charming and engaging. The movie is coherent, funny and entertaining. A fun hour and a half.

Black comedy horror....and a band like no other
eddie-328267 July 2019
I like black comedies, and horror films as well, so when they mix the two, sometimes they can be good, sometimes bad. In this case, its good. I know that there are films like Severance, but this is a bit more wacky. The group of misfits led by the group leader on the team building course, were my favourite. There were a few laughs in there, and nothing really forced. Even the 'Ali, are you crying?' bit made me chuckle. Sure, some of the scenes are a bit tame in the deaths etc, but some are up there with the effects. Just remember, the band that you see doing the gig....one day, that may be playing at your local pub.

Help us all if that happens.

Warning: Spoilers
THE TRAP takes place in an old, abandoned bath house, where some homicidal nastiness occurs at the beginning.

Later, two groups of people are introduced. One a bunch of crooks, the other an employment training class. Both groups wind up at the aforementioned building, looking for something allegedly hidden there.

Unbeknownst to any of them, the sole "occupant" is still there, and he's quite dangerous! Since brains are scarce, it takes a while for these imbeciles to recognize the hazardous situation they're in.

The bath house itself is a wondrous fun house, filled with gadgets and Rube Goldberg contraptions / traps, created by the very maniac they're up against. Horror and hilarity unfold.

If either Jigsaw or The Collector had had a sense of humor, this is the movie they would have been in! It's a British, low-low budget production, and proud of it!

REMEMBER: "We are the men in beige!"...
