When Channel 3 news reporter April O’Neil (Judith Hoag) is accosted one night during the walk to her car by a group of thugs, four strange saviors submerged in shadow come to her rescue with the speed and stealth of ninjas. Both foes and friends represent forces the city of Manhattan will reckon with in incredible ways. On the side of crime and greed is the mysterious Foot Clan, a clandestine syndicate originating from Japan believed to be long forgotten. Led by the imposing Shredder (James Saito) and trained as ninjas, the Foot uses their talent for crime’s sake, in addition to recruiting the city’s delinquent youth as the next generation of troops. On the side of virtue and righteousness are…mutated teenage turtles who dwell in the sewers,...

This past weekend, fans of the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" were discouraged (to say the least) when news that "Transformers" director Michael Bay plans on giving the turtles an alien origin hit the web. Bay, who is producing the movie, was quick to respond by telling outraged fans everywhere to "take a breath, and chill."
Yet, tempers continued to flare as the heated debate made its way to one of the original Ninja Turtles. Robbie Rist, the voice behind Michelangelo in the original film, had this to say on the matter: "I know believing in mutated talking turtles is kinda silly to begin with but am I supposed to be led to believe there are ninjas from another planet? The rape of our childhood memories continues."
From its inception, the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" franchise has always been super gimicky. Originally starting as a "grim and gritty" Frank Miller-esque parody,...

By now, a good majority of you guys have probably - hopefully - seen the 35 minute Casey Jones/Ninja Turtles fan film. It’s been posted on just about every major nerd site there is (including us), and I recently had the chance to talk to the filmmakers and star of the short film about the movie and what they’re planning next.
It was interesting for me to talk with these guys. In all honesty, it felt more like I was sitting and chatting with friends more than doing an interview. Frequently during our discussion we kept going off on tangents about other nerdy topics and subjects...That’s just how cool and laid back these guys were.
Let’s give a little info on them before getting right into it. Polaris Banks is the director (and just about everything else) behind this self-funded project, and his brother plays...

A new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fan film has surfaced online, and it's a fairly impressive piece of work telling the origin story of Casey Jones, with some iconic comic book shots and homages to the franchise, and featuring good cinematography on what’s probably a relatively low budget.
Those involved, such as director Polarion Banks and star Hilarion Banks, have talent, though the specific storyline chosen, while well-told, holds the film back. Specifically, Casey Jones’ moral flaws undermine it.
Basically, despite the film’s merits, it’s too dark (thematically speaking), and not heroic enough. That is to say, not heroic enough in the true sense of the word. Casey Jones becomes a formidable and iconic figure over the course of the film, but although he fights evil, his methods mean he barely qualifies as a good guy.
There’s arguably an element of satire of a brutal vigilante,...
