In the wake of post-apocalyptic world, 3 college drop-outs refuse to do anything even remotely productive... should it be any other way, really?
Stiffs, an indie film by young Canadian director Robin Williams (no, not that one), plays the chords reminisce of an early Kevin Smith film, deriving laughter by catching the viewer off guard--at least initially- as to exactly what genre this film is. Set aside any qualms you may have with the awkward ambient soundtrack and sound hiccups because though it took some time for me to overlook these particular blemishes, Stiffs' incredibly impressive writing and humor more than makes up for its shortcomings. This film is about laughs, and it doesn't take long to deliver them--in spades. The story will woo you over, the characters will charm you, and you'll laugh--uproariously ! It's not cerebral; it's not visually impressive, but Stiffs' ability to demand viewer attention in the face of all its hurdles is quite an impressive feat.
