A Gem of a Kind
Stunned. Amazing movie. Surely, a masterpiece. This astounding movie from Kazakhstan is incredible. In fact, this movie shows everybody how modern cinema should be, how to use the technique to deliver the old tricks in a dazzling manner. The backdrop is stunningly set, forcing me to take numerous screenshots, and the story brilliantly told. It is a simple movie attempting to retell a Kazakh legend, and it does so in a stunning manner. The use of the color and the water and the reeds from the sunsets at Aral Sea will simply consume your sense of appreciation and take you into a palpably mythical journey. The story never loses pace, it actually has as much happening as a Bollywood film, but the storytelling handles it beautifully. Acting is rustic and incisive (in a very subtle manner). This is one movie that surely steal your heart and lacerate it simultaneously. The conclusion is one of the most heart rending and devastating ever committed on film. A movie that mixes dark and light fabulously, not depicting contradictions for a change, but attempting to highlight the delicate balance between the two.
