Strip it back, it's a very sad story.
Sleepin_Dragon29 July 2022
Seth Rich is killed, his death is believed to have all sorts of political ramifications, wiki leaks, Trump, Russia, a media storm begins.

It is an interesting story, but there are two points I'd have to address, firstly how depressing a society we live in, the media truly don't give a hoot about any single person, either in life or death, the media storm here is vulgar.

Ghastly for Seth's parents, how utterly obscene and tragic, the scenario they were left dealing with, their son's death, that must have been harrowing enough, but grieving with all of this media onslaught happening, tragic, two of the most authentic people I've seen on a documentary for some time, I thought the couple were fantastic people, most of the others interviewed here, were not.

Welcome to current politics, 7/10.

Sad for the family
Calicodreamin16 June 2022
You can't help but feel bad for the family and the hell they were dragged into for the sake of politics and people getting their 15 min. From a documentary sake this definitely didn't need to be and hour long, too much back and forth, could have been streamlined.

Misinformation - the tool of the sociopath
estathena217 June 2022
How a senseless murder attracts the dregs of society looking to make a name for themselves is horrifying as it is infuriating. If this documentary accomplishes anything is sounding a too quiet alarm on the dangers of misinformation, conspiracy kooks, & the delusions that fuel them.

Good series -- except for poorly executed Episode 2
anesteph21 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
SPOILERS The Netflix series Web of make Believe: death, Lies, and the Internet, season 1 is worth watching, (especially episodes 4 and 5 --the twist in ep. 5 is quite something). EXCEPT EPISODE 2. Two stars is generous.

SPOILERS AHEAD: There is a horrible mix of truth and wild speculation surrounding the Seth Rich murder and no one has sorted it all. However, this episode verified evidence as "conspiracy theory" while running the "russiaqate" conspiracy theory which has been roundly debunked. They have cherry-picked a few televised statements from Julian Assange that make him look like an anemic, lying side-kick to right-wing extremists, which could not be FURTHER from the truth. To present Assange in that way, a journalist who made public the verified video evidence of US war crimes in IRAQ, and who is currently being persecuted by the US government, screams "agenda" and bring down the value of the series, even though other episodes are worthwhile. The treatment of Assange threatens the free press in this country, so it is particularly galling that the makers of a series claiming to be about investigative journalism would choose to run the legacy media line about Wkileaks and Julian Assange.

This Episode was Sponsored by the DNC and MSM
thebsr12 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
To keep this simple, whether you believe he was knocked off nefariously or not, the entire episode is a giant "but see the DNC didn't do it, and everyone is a liar". Again, it's all speculation. That being said, it's pretty hilarious while calling people that believe he was executed and not robbed and killed, conspiracy nuts peddling misinformation", they kept citing the Russian collusion theory as fact. That's ACTUALLY been proven a complete fabrication, by the people being accused of taking out Mr Rich. I stopped at this episode because I saw it was no longer about getting stories out there, but about shaping the narrative they wanted you to absorb.
