Unexpected Quality for an Expected Tale
keemanxp2 March 2023
It was a random decision to watch this movie, and without much expectation to be honest, since in my mind at that moment, it would be yet another "typical Malay love drama". But I was proven wrong. The efforts that Nik Amir Mustapha and his team had taken to produce this film can be felt just by enjoying this film.

Yes, this love tale isn't new. The idea isn't 100% fresh. But having the "Malaysian colours and flavours" in crafting this "expected" storyline somehow makes it "different" and worthy of praise. The quality of the script, casting and shots is indeed commendable. It does give you "goosebumps" that this film is indeed made by Malaysians.

I do wish it was slightly longer. Ironically, some parts seem draggy but at the same time you could feel like the film ends rather abruptly. There are of course weaknesses here and there but on the whole, it's a love story that not only touches your heart but opens up your mind on various issues especially those concerning family and relationships.

Malaysians should go watch this movie. Support!

Masterpiece
afrazeirfan8 March 2023
This movie definitely sets Malaysia's filmmaking industry bar to a high level. Engaging, exciting, melancholy and wonderful at the same time. Love the details placed to indicate movement of time. Main actors, as expected, both played their characters well with Beto Khusyairi and Diana displaying fine but also impactful facial gestures. Not to mention, other characters also played huge roles in setting the movie alive. Soundtracks, no need to say anything, fits perfectly. With Director Nik's previous movie, KIL, being a huge success and a creative masterpiece, IMAGINUR is far from lacking. Overall, expectation exceeded, over a high margin. IMAGINUR is a must watch.

Good idea and execution
muiz-327525 March 2023
Warning: Spoilers
It was thoughfully done, from script, cast selection, plot, and overall play which a rare quality in Malaysia film-making scene.

For a comparison, among the best Malaysian films ever produced are Puteri Gunung Ledang, Bunohan, Dukun, Khabir Bhatia's and Yasmin Ahmad's films, and this Imaginur is comparable to these good films.

Love the concept and how they brilliantly execute it. Thanks to a very thoughtful plot, of which it didnt confuse us, but allow us to be in the mind of those suffering with alzheimer, dementia. We get to experience the memory confusion vs absolute true feeling delivered by the main character, supported by well crafted plot.

This film is also rare species as compared to other local productions as it leaves room for audience to think, speculate and assume without being inconsistent, missing the details, or getting away from the center of actual theme.

Film is definitely touchy and relatable to many and hence the crowd came to support this film.

Well done and great job!

Nik Amir Mustapha 'KIL's it again
getalifeulam23 February 2023
Having been a fan of Nik Amir's work for almost a decade now, I was not disappointed with Imaginur. In fact, far from it.

Imaginur takes its audience through a whirlwind of emotions from start to finish, leaving those watching it gripped the whole time.

From the perfectly cast actors to its witty dialogues and not to mention the beautiful camera shots, I'm hard pressed to find reasons not to love it. What I like most about this film is how it can mean differently for different people without laying it on too thick, or rather ostentatiously.

Without spoiling it for those who have yet to watch this Malaysian gem, I'd say go into it with an open mind and let yourself be immersed in one of the best Malaysian made films ever.

The movie is full of imagination - in a good way
amirajmal-317047 March 2023
The film has all the right ingredients that makes up a solid and A tier movie:

Great acting, pacing, script, audio mixing, cinematography and especially in my opinion the soundtrack used throughout the film. I came in with zero expectation other than hearing great reviews from word of mouth.

I knew there was something to this film after watching the trailer and after watching it I am so satisfied. Throughout the film you're going through a roller coaster of emotions trying to figure out and piece together what in the heaven is going on but when everything comes together it is delivered beautifully.

I highly recommend this Malaysian film and I hope to see more like this. Please do yourself a favor and watch this.

The story line is different from the others
syzizzati16 July 2023
The flow of the story seems light but the plot is difficult to understand. Heavy art that people MUST watch!

The beginning of the story full of question marks makes sleepy viewers will continue watching until the end.

The selection of each character helps bring this story to life. The emotions brought by each character make this movie incredibly easy to understand.

The story line goes from clueless and not knowing anything to a story that touches viewer's heart.

I tried to hold back my tears but failed. Tears fell with the unexpected ending plot. The emotions conveyed by the actors deeply pierced my soul.

There are not many Malaysian productions that dare to bring a fictional story with the imagination genre. Shout out to IMAGINUR!

probably the best malaysian film ever
imanbintihairy7 March 2023
It kept me interested. Usually i hate watching malay movies cause...our movies always boring lah. But this one is so entertaining. I was invested. Almost hollywood-like story (?) . Dare i say this must be nominated for an oscar! Michelle yeoh is being nominated for the oscars 2023...so why should *this* movie be too?! The acting was pretty good. The actor of Zuhal did well...This movie i could watch multiple times. I'm not saying this is a "masterpiece" or anything, but i truly think it deserves to be nominated. For malaysian movie standards, this one was great. Fun fact. My cats name is also Zuhal. Overall, this movie was great. Very.

good first half, weak conclusion
forthatusage28 February 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoyed the first three quarter of the movie... keeps me guessing what is going on, never a boring moment..beautiful cinematography, the acting by each actor is good, the script is also meaningful.. even the houses deco and the props they use in the movie also has esthetic values.. it reminds me of my sister, one of of those cool uni students in the 70's..when our education system was much better back then, hence creating cool smart people that give this vibe like no other

but the later part of the movie and the conclusion is a big let down for me.. Im ok with time loop plot and have seen many good time loop movies but in this movie the execution of the repetitive events was somehow not done well .. it makes the movie loses its pace and bores and annoys me..

the plot twist at the end also did not surprise me I kinda guessed it already.. and I was expecting a more clever and satisfying ending but this one is just ordinary..

But I still have no regrets watching this movie and for sure I will check all of Nik Amir's films after this.

A must watch!

Warning: Spoilers
Understanding the confused mind of a dementia, alzheimer sufferer. Mental illness is a generally misunderstood ailment. This movie gives good exposure of what goes on in the mind of a dementia sufferer. Memories tend to repeat over and over again and one memory mixed up randomly. Hence, sufferers always feel lost and confused. Movie has good depth, good storyline, very touching. Excellent acting by all, can't ask for a better cast. So proud Malaysians can produce quality movie such as this. Hope to see more intellectual movies such as this in future. I just hope Malaysians can support this movie because we need to grow the maturity of our local movies.

What are imaginary friends?

Imaginary friends are pretend friends that children make up in their imaginations. They're usually nothing to worry about.

Imaginary friends come in all shapes and sizes. They can be based on someone your child already knows, a storybook character or even a soft toy. Sometimes they come purely from your child's imagination. They're mostly human, but they can also be animals.

These friends might always be there, or they might come and go. They might exist only in certain spots like the cubby house or at the kitchen table. And they might appear and disappear for no apparent reason.

When do imaginary friends appear and how long do they last?

Children as young as 2½ years can have an imaginary friend. Children might sometimes have more than one imaginary friend.

Children usually stop playing with make-believe friends when they're ready to move on. Imaginary friends are most likely to be around for several months, but they could be a feature of your child's life for a few years.

Why do children have imaginary friends?

Your child's imaginary friend could be someone who:

listens to and supports your child plays with your child can do things that your child can't do is special and belongs only to your child doesn't judge or find fault with your child.

Your child is in charge of what the imaginary friend says, what the friend does and who the special friend can 'play' with. This could also be part of the friend's appeal.

Imaginary friends allow children to explore a make-believe world that they create all by themselves. In fact, children with make-believe friends might be more imaginative and more likely to enjoy fantasy play and magical stories.

The way children play with or talk about their friends can tell you a lot about how they're feeling. Make-believe friends give you insight into your child's inner world, and your child's likes, dislikes and tastes.

Local film of the year!!!
zaidnazli18 July 2023
Just watched it on Prime because my father recommended it to me, I thought it's just a normal romance film with a little bit of drama in it. But I was dead wrong, the story itself is never been done by any local filmmakers. The story of harsh reality that will surely make you cry a waterfall. The twist and turn will keep you on edge. You need to really focus and understand the storyline or else you will be lost in the plot.

The background music and soundtrack is oscar-worthy in my opinion, when you almost cry and you try to hold it in suddenly the music starts to play and without you noticing the tear starts to pour out. Perfect song for the perfect moment. I don't think I need to review the script and acting because it is already perfect as it is.

Should you watch this movie, OF COURSE!! I hope this movie can be set as a benchmark for our local film to keep producing top quality content.

Captivating Cinematic Gem: A Delight in Malaysian Excellence
Shafwan0219 December 2023
Finally, I saw this movie at last, over two years after it was released. After learning how much the film relies on art, I was at last able to mentally get ready to watch this movie. I'll keep the review short.

I thought the movie was fantastic all around. Everything about this movie, including the soundtrack, cinematography, and storyline, is flawless. Nik Amir Mustapha directed a heartfelt and yet amiable film with an intriguing plot.

The performance in this film is also something I can't overlook. Beto Kusyairy has outstanding acting skills, and he gets along well with Diana Danielle.

This kind of excellent storytelling is uncommon in movies, particularly in Malaysia. This film has a great deal of potential to showcase the quality of Malaysian cinema. I heartily suggest this film to people who love art-focused motion pictures.

AMAZING
hadifirfanamirmachmud2 September 2023
I just saw Imaginur on Prime Video and I can surely say that this is the most unique Malaysian film. Let's start with the most obvious one, cinematography. If this film didn't win in achievement in cinematography at Malaysian Film Festival, I would snap. Like this is the most beautiful Malaysian film. The colouring, camera, lens are A+! Next is storyline, if you haven't watch this film yet, there's a 95% you won't expect the plot twist because I was shocked by the plot twist. Third one is... acting. The connection between Beto and Diana are _perfect_ lets not forget amazing performances by Meor Hashim and Nadiya Nissa. I think the only complaint I could came out with is this movie is _too fast paced_ for the movie plot. But that didn't really gonna affect the storyline but I would think this movie could expand their runtime by 10 or 15 minutes with fillers to make us feel more connected to the characters.

I give this film 10 stars amazing movie hopefully this movie won a lot of awards!
