For realism, Director Jim Powers had all the actors drink actual liquor and beer. For one scene, on the thirteenth take of drinking watered down tequila they finally switched to colored water.
The shoot days often lasted well beyond 16 hours due to time constraints.
The actors playing the hunters often improvised background conversations, some of the more absurd comments were layered in the final cut of the film.
The film is set in 1989. Originally it was written as taking place in 1959, but was moved up to include references to the war on drugs during the 80s (scenes cut).
Walter's line "I was just trying to remember...or convert" when talking about his medical school training is actually a remnant of an earlier draft of the script. Originally Walter was actually a veterinary student with no human medical training, thus "converting" his knowledge to use on Adore.
