The story was written and shot for the writer/director's Senior project of undergraduate studies.
The slap midway through the film was not planned. The director took the actress aside and told her to, while not telling the actor. It was not a stage slap and there were multiple takes.
Two years after the film was finished, it was brought back into the editing room to remove a once vital scene that decidedly killed the emotion of the film and the title was then changed.
The director ran the working title, "It Won't Get Better" by the director of photography, to which he replied, "That's horrendous in every way imaginable."
