In 1997 a statue of Dr. Ambedkar in Dalit colony in Mumbai. Documentary covers the heart breaking story .

Warning: Spoilers
For well over 2000 years India's Dalits were abhorred as "untouchables" denied an education and treated as bonded labor. By 1923 Bhimrao Ambedkar broke the taboo, won doctorates abroad and returned to India to fight for emancipation of his people. He drafted the Indian Constitution. He led his followers to discard Hinduism for Buddhism. His legend still spreads through poetry and songs.

In 1997 a statue of Dr. Ambedkar in Dalit colony in Mumbai was desecrated with a garland of footwear. As angry residents gathers, police opened fire killing 10. Vilas Ghogre, a lefties poet, hung himself in protest.

'Jai Bhim Comrade' shot over 14 years, follows the music and tradition of reason that Vilas had been a part of. Anand Patwardhan has been making investigative documentaries in India for over three decades. His films have often faced State censorship as well as the wrath of religious fundamentalists.

A slap on face of Conniving Indian Politician
ilakkusatish24 June 2020
I would consider this a benchmark in Indian documentary making. it possesses all qualities of a unrestrained uncensored and brave portrayal of prevailing politics in caste vote bank of Maharashtra and how people from lower castes are being pushed lower. I became aware how political colours and seasons make the person with CASTE decorated with seasonal colours to make him look like the colours of flag bearer but in reality they are victims of circumstances and social INJUSTICE. Shameful a common man if he still clings to belief in Political ideology.

The best film-maker from India since Ray, Ismail Merchant and Shekhar Kapur
sherlock-1426 April 2013
I have seen all of Mr. Patwardhan's documentaries. They should be essential viewing for anyone who wants to look beyond 'the official story' put forward by the media and the Indian government i.e.the rich and powerful.

Jai Bhim confronts the dirty reality of the caste system something India hides from the rest of the world. Indians are quick to point out racism against them in other countries when they are guilty of the worst kind of racism and discrimination -violent, brutal and degrading and all this comes down from their 'sacred' but completely sexist, racist Hindu texts.

Changed my Perspective
itsakashpandey8 June 2020
I started watching Anand Patwardhan's documentary movies in 2020 Lockdown. And it affected me very deeply. It changed my perspective, my views, my ignorance. I never felt or never allow myself to know the atrocities by Upper Caste Hindus, the condition of caste system that still persist in India. Indians are busy condemning George Floyd's death, Racism in US. What about India itself. Indian needs to see within itself.

Fact:- Jai Bhim Comrade is Anand Sir's 14 years continues investigative research documentary Movie.

excellent movie

This movie shows how people living in remote place are treated as untouchables and have to face brutality. Such acts can be found in all places in world but I feel in India its competatively more.

Absolutely Must Watch
wincliff1 August 2020
I have been watching documentaries all my life. On Vietnam War, on Black revolutionaries, on every other topic; and till now I ignored the one topic in my backyard. The curse of casteism in India. Please watch this documentary. I am kind of begging you :-)

Best Movie
makitheguy15 November 2021
The movie is definitely worth watching. The reality shown is a fact and not only happens in Tamil Nadu but in whole world. You may even get attached our may get emotional but it really touched my heart. It's the first time I am reviewing a movie and could not control myself to post it. I would recommend everyone to watch this movie and throw your reviews on it. The work surya sir did is commendable. Usage of words like drama, action and thriller is not meant for this movie, in fact it's the reality happening everywhere which gets out of reach to the people. Very well phrased and narrated. Hope India this time will forward it for the Oscars nomination and definitely it will win for sure. If you don't have heart or sympathy then don't watch it else I would personally recommend everyone to watch it and share your views.

Warning: Spoilers
There is no difference between SI Anthony and Suriya, both are same. SI file the case against innocent Rasakannu and Suriya unnecessarily portrait innocent vanniyar community as sadist.

General people must know this truth.
