The role of Eddie was not originally to be a speaking part. Michael Schmid was initially brought in only to play a bar-back who drinks a raw egg in a glass of beer during the opening sequence. The two voice-mails heard when Karen checks her messages were both the voice of writer/director Stuart Wahlin. Wahlin also makes two cameo appearances on camera; once as a bar patron in a cowboy hat, and another as the man urinating in the apartment building hallway.
