There’ll be some happy holidays on Prime Video in December, as the streamer’s seasonal offerings hope to keep the fires warm in your home this month!
As such, there are quite a few new original holiday movies coming to the service. At the beginning of the month, Eddie Murphy stars in Candy Cane Lane. In this film, the Beverly Hills Cop and Coming to America star plays a determined man who is willing to go above and beyond to win the annual Christmas home decoration contest in his neighborhood – even if it means making a very magical deal.
The DC universe will also be getting festive in December thanks to Merry Little Batman, an animated feature that sees Batman’s son, Damian Wayne, stumble upon a villainous plot on Christmas eve, one that may give him a chance to save the day when his dad isn’t around.

Last week, filmmakers, critics and movie fans showed a rare, completely united front in castigating the move by Warner Bros. to lock another of its projects away in a vault, preferring to take a tax write-down instead of releasing it, as with Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt last year. The new movie was Coyote Vs. Acme, which blends CG Wile E. Coyote with live-action John Cena and more. Now, after the outcry, Puck brings word that executives are reportedly changing their minds and allowing the movie's producers to shop it elsewhere.
Earth To Echo (see review)[/link]Dave Green directed the film, with Samy Birch on script duty (adapting a New Yorker article of the same title by Ian Frazier). James Gunn (who currently runs WB's DC Studios) worked on the story and is an executive producer.

The financial axe of Warner Bros. has fallen on another film. Following in the shelved footsteps of Batgirl and Scoob! Holiday Haunt last year, the studio has decided to put another film — this one finished and ready to release — into its vault. The latest victim of the baffling, if monetarily lucrative procedure is Coyote Vs. Acme, which stars John Cena.

The live-action/animated film follows Wile E. Coyote, who after Acme products fail him one too many times in his dogged pursuit of the Roadrunner, decides to hires a billboard lawyer to sue the Acme Corporation.

“Coyote vs. Acme,” a live-action movie that stars John Cena, Will Forte and Lana Condor, has been shelved by Warner Bros. a year after it was completed.
This follows Warner Bros. similarly shelving nearly completed features “Batgirl” and “Scoob’s Haunted Holiday.”
“With the re-launch of Warner Bros. Pictures Animation in June, the studio has shifted its global strategy to focus on theatrical releases. With this new direction, we have made the difficult decision not to move forward with ‘Coyote vs Acme.’ We have tremendous respect for the filmmakers, casts, and crew, and are grateful for their contributions to the film,” a Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group spokesperson said.
The movie was an adaptation of a 1990 short story by Ian Frazier that first appeared in the New Yorker. Development on the project began back in 2018, with Chris McKay attached as a producer. Shortly afterward, Dave Green, director of “Earth to Echo...

For three hours on Friday morning, Disney flooded social media with a Main Street Parade of first looks, announcements, and title treatments for at least 45 series, features, and specials set to debut on its streaming service, Disney Plus. The promotional cavalcade covered every section of the service — Marvel, Lucasfilm, Pixar, Disney animation and live action, and National Geographic, as well as some offerings for Hulu and Star Plus — as ostensibly part of a company-wide effort to celebrate the streamer’s two year anniversary, dubbed Disney Plus Day.
But coming just two days after Disney announced that Disney Plus added a meager 2.1 million subscribers in its most recent quarter — causing a 7% drop in the company’s stock price on Thursday — the motive behind the effort was plain: To remind Wall Street and subscribers alike that Disney Plus remains second to none in the breadth, depth, and quality of its content. “Trust us,...

Marvel Studios continues casting for their next live-action TV series "Echo", spinning off from the upcoming "Hawkeye" series, following deaf, super-powered native American 'Maya Lopez' (Alaqua Cox), co-starring Marvel Comics blind crime-fighter 'Daredevil':
"...with a white hand-print across her face, 'Maya Lopez is an Olympic-level athlete possessing 'photographic reflexes', defined as the uncanny ability to perfectly copy other people's movements. Just by watching other people, she has become a concert-level pianist, a martial artist, a highly skilled acrobat and gifted ballerina.
"She also gained the acrobatic abilities of 'Daredevil' and the uncanny aim of 'Bullseye'. But her deafness is a drawback as she relies on visual cues that render her helpless in the dark, and her ability to communicate by reading lips prevents her from taking commands and communicating with people who are wearing masks or are not in direct visual contact.

Three icons from around the world, Indian popstar Armaan Malik, multi-faceted Korean American artist Eric Nam and platinum music producer Kshmr have come together for a collaboration of epic proportions in the form of ‘Echo’. While the audio is an eclectic concoction that’s one of a kind and the perfect blend of all three’s artistry, ‘Echo’ lyrically articulates the feeling of indecisiveness in a relationship that pushes partners off the edge. The accompanying music video captures the artists in their natural element powerfully bringing the emotions of the song to life.
Talking about how the track took shape, Armaan Malik said, “‘Echo’ was incepted when I met Kshmr in Los Angeles right before the onset of the global pandemic and the release of my first English single. NBC is stepping back into Night Court.
The network has handed out a pilot order to a sequel series of the '80s comedy series, with The Big Bang Theory's Melissa Rauch set to lead.
"Unapologetic optimist judge Abby Stone (series star Melissa Rauch), the daughter of the late Harry Stone, follows in her father's footsteps as she presides over the night shift of a Manhattan arraignment court and tries to bring order to its crew of oddballs and cynics, most notably former night court prosecutor Dan Fielding (series star John Larroquette)," reads the official logline.
Yes, John Larroquette is set to return to the series, which he won four consecutive Emmys for from 1985-1988.
"My intention was purely to be behind the camera on this project, but my plans quickly changed after falling in love with the incredible script from the brilliant mind of Dan Rubin," said Rauch.

Many nations all around the world do their best to maintain a facade of normality, of democracy and liberalism at time, even though the reality for their citizens is quite different and defined by repression, fear and paranoia. However, from the outside, many of these places are similar to a blackbox with only the official version of events being broadcast in the media, but then, we sometimes have cases of courageous individuals who lift the proverbial curtain to show us the reality behind the fiction. Obviously, their acts do not go unnoticed by the authorities in their home country, often resulting in strict punishments, bans and even jail sentences, for example, in the case of Turkish journalist Deniz Yücel whose imprisonment after the publication of many compromising articles about Turkish politics led to international protests which continued until he was eventually released. These incidents not only do lasting damage to...

An American Pickle (Brandon Trost)
Seth Rogen plays dual roles in his latest comedy, American Pickle follows Seth Rogen both as Herschel Greenbaum, an immigrant who falls in a vat of pickled is brined for 100 years, and his great-grandson Ben Greenbaum, who is a computer coder and lives a very different life, to say the least. While there are certainly humorous sequences (a Brooklyn hipster couple’s first impressions of Greenbaum’s pickle stand comes foremost to mind), Rogen is far more interested in the definitions of family and loyalty, themes that are not explored with a great deal of emotional impact, but do add some heart to what...

Rúnar Rúnarsson's Echo is showing August 5 - September 3, 2020 on Mubi in the series Festival Focus: Locarno Film Festival.Echo is a film where reality was captured, initiated and staged. The timeline of the film is the advent season of December 2018 to New Year’s day 2019, shot in Iceland. In this sometimes stressful time of year it’s easy to lose track of ourselves and get disconnected from our surroundings. At the same time, the dusk of the year fuels self-reflection and enables us to put our lives into perspective, often evoking empathy for others. Each individual in the film will only appear in a single scene and therefore there won’t be a main character. Each scene is an observing, static one slate shot on a tripod. Time is only broken when there is a cut between scenes. By themselves, these scenes either tell a short story or capture a mood or an emotion,...

Debris is the first NBC pilot to nab a series order for the 2020-21 TV season.
With pilot season derailed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the network has picked up the sci-fi drama after it managed to complete most of the production on the alien drama's pilot.
The series focuses on two agents from two different continents, and two different mindsets, who must work together to investigate when wreckage from a destroyed alien spacecraft that has mysterious effects on humankind.
Jonathan Tucker and Riann Steele are on board as the two leads.
Given that most of the initial episode was actually shot, it gave it a leg up on the other pilots, most of which had not filmed a single scene.
The series was not on the network's recently unveiled fall schedule, so it's likely that it will launch in early 2021.
It could possibly be used in the Mondays at 10 p.

Exclusive: As NBC made decisions on its 2021 pilot slate earlier this week, the network has followed up with casting decisions for most of the pilots on the slate, impacted by the coronavirus pandemic-related production shutdown. They come as the original pilot cast options expire June 30.
Of the two drama pilots put on a path to a series order, La Brea has released its entire cast with the exception of two of the leads, Natalie Zea and Zyra Gorecki.
La Brea, from Keshet Studios and Universal TV, had its script order upped to six this week. With six completed scripts, La Brea will be in consideration for a straight-to-series order. If it gets a green light, production on the series is eyed for 2021, so the network and the studio have opted not to hold the entire cast for at least seven more months, which would be costly. Brian Wilson, Beck and Eric Clapton are among the star contributors, but the story of Laurel Canyon’s folk-rock scene remains a mystery – and where’s Joni?
This documentary about the folk-rock scene in mid-60s Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, centres on an all-star tribute show, and would have made a neat free gift for ticket-holders. But with an arrogance unique to those insulated by fame and money, it gets put into the wider marketplace for music documentaries and comes up embarrassingly short.
It is the first film by Andrew Slater, who had a varied music career, including journalism, artist management and production, before becoming chief exec of Capitol Records. In 2007, he was ousted just months into a five-year contract with a $15m payout, and Echo in the Canyon feels like a twilight-years project for someone who already gets his Diy and gardening done for him.

Viewers shouldn’t expect much new fare during the 2020-2021 broadcast season.
Last year, the broadcast networks collectively ordered 36 new series out of pilot season, on par with the historic lows of years past. This year, the number of series ordered is on track to be a fraction of that, likely somewhere between 10 and 20.
With networks and studios still largely unable to produce any shows under the coronavirus production shutdown — including their pilots ordered this pilot season — broadcasters are largely going to be renewing vast swaths of their existing schedules rather than ordering new shows, sources say.
CBS and Fox have already given a glimpse of what next season will look like.
Last week, CBS announced series pick ups for the “Equalizer” reboot starring Queen Latifah, a drama about “The Silence of the Lambs” character Clarice Starling, and the multi-cam comedy “B Positive” from Chuck Lorre. The four Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are pretty obsessed with food and so, it turns out, is the director of their most recent big screen outing.
Dave Green, who helmed 2016’s “Tmnt: Out of the Shadows,” is teaming up with actor Joe Cobden (“Fargo”) to create a food-based sketch comedy series at Quibi.
The project is called “Toothpix” and hails from “Tim & Eric Awesome Show” producers Abso Lutely and “Chef’s Table” production house Supper Club. Based on the Instagram account of the same name, the show is set entirely in the world of celebrity chefs, restaurants and influencer culture, and aims to celebrate the absurdities of the food world.
“Toothpix” is being produced by Josh Cohen and Dave Kneebone for Abso Lutely, and David Gelb, Brian McGinn, and Jason Sterman for Supper Club.
Green was recently tapped to direct Warner Bros.’ live action-animation hybrid Wile E. Coyote movie, as Variety reported exclusively.

The Moody Blues and the Four Tops, two legends of music, once worked together in an international collaboration in the early 1970s. At the time, Motown and the British Invasion artists reigned on the radio, and the two groups were at the forefront of the airwaves. The Moody Blues were reborn into a new sound with the addition of guitarist Justin Hayward, transforming their post-“Go Now” sound into the explorations of symphonically-infused rock and the new sonic possibilities of stereo. The Four Tops were one of the bands to establish the Motown Sound. The legendary Holland-Dozier-Holland writing team continued to develop the group’s dynamic vocal range through the changing times, tastes, and sound technology.
It was a common practice of the era for bands to record and perform covers. Aretha Franklin famously recorded a version of “Let It Be,” which turns 50 this year, after hearing a demo Paul McCartney sent.

Out of the vast universe of nature documentaries, I don’t think I’m alone in finding films about life under the sea to occupy a special place. The very fact that they exist, of course, is amazing — though when you watch one, part of the wonder is that you’re not thinking about how aquamarine filmmakers actually hovered in the ocean depths to shoot this stuff. Jacques Cousteau, the pioneer of the genre, liked to place himself at the center of things, but the creators of “Dolphin Reef,” a Disneynature doc that drops on Disney Plus on April 3, simply get out of the way and let the ancient creatures of the sea seduce us with their surreal evolutionary form-follows-function wild splendor.
Shot around an idyllic chain of small Polynesian islands, “Dolphin Reef” does indeed trace the rituals, movements, and sheer shining beauty of a pod of bottlenose Pacific dolphins.

Here is Deadline’s annual list of writers, producers and directors who excelled at this stage of the network development cycle. It also includes a couple of other highlights from Pilot Season 2020.
