Decent movie, Divine HiT- Swamiye Sharanam Ayyappa 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
bloomquick5 February 2023
I wanted to give my family a good movie going experience and I chose Malikapuram. Little did I know when walking out I would carry a little bit of Sabarimala and the Lord Himself with me. The film is packed at 2 hours. Not a dull moment. You will enjoy the ride. The child actors were simply awesome. The whole crew was outstanding. Unni Mukundan rocks. Can't help but say this, Lord Ayyappa has truly blessed him and this film. It will fill your heart and soul. Yes, the villain characters made me a little uncomfortable but that only means they did a good job! They had to be daunting to make the fight against evil that much more interesting. Overall it's a must watch. Thanks to this movie, and the music director, I finally learnt an Ayyappa Sloka that I have never heard of before. I can't stop singing it. The climax scene is not just one of the best you will ever see, but the most divine experience that you will carry home. I wish I was a kid again so that I could visit Sabarimala. But that's ok. This movie will inspire you to do great things in life on the marg of Dharma.

You can't have it both ways
vy5akh31 December 2022
Warning: Spoilers
The movie is built on the belief in swami ayyappa and through most of it's run time, it is hinted that unni mukandan's character is ayyapan himself. This adds to the overall feel of the whole affair. And as the story moves forward; we like kallu accept that he is indeed who we believe he is. And throughout the film his dialogue is left ambiguous to further strengthen that emotion. This emotion peaks with the jungle fight where he is shown as ayyappa, from kallu's perspective.

The scene on the pathinettam paadi is the high point of the film. Then the next scene where it is implied he could be anyone, is the icing on the cake. I believe this was the logical climax to a great movie. But ....

Then the writer wanted to say stop. There's a logical explanation for all this. This 5 minutes completely shatter the aura of unni mukundan's character. He is human after all, and it is explicitly stated or spelled out god appears as humans who want to do a good deed. This deflates the character who we have known throughout the movie to a mere mortal. This actually made me question how much of what happened, he could pull off. It would have been better left ambiguous.

You can't have it both ways. You either have a movie rooted in faith or rooted firmly in logic. You have to have one or the other strongly represented. Or a good ratio. Here it was 95% faith and 5% logic which deflated the whole experience.

At the end for the kids, unni mukundan is ayyapan and I couldn't help thinking if it were better if it was the same with us as well.

Mix of Masala and Devotion
anish-0731919 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Malikappuram is a movie intending to be a mass film but mixes with devotion and we get a somewhat average film. Those who are not devotees of Swami Ayyappan or not of Hindu Religion may find it to be a boring movie. The movie is not Mass enough and uses cheap emotions to keep the audiences engaged. There is one scene in particular where a character says to Kalu's father that his father also died when he was eight years old. The father also dies but how the incidents are linked or the father daughter must visit Sabarimala are not explained nor written well. A villian is also introduced to provide some tension in the film. The actor is good but his part is written very badly.

Must watch movie. True culture of kerala !
girish878 January 2023
Thankfully after many decades, there is a movie to showcase the true culture of kerala since time immemorial. This movie has everything a family needs to watch. If you are an ayyappa devotee. This movie is a treat to watch. Even otherwise it is a must watch movie for any normal sensible person. This temple is one of Kerala's lifeline and no movie showcasing good about it since many decades. Thanks to the director, producer and Unni Mukundan ! India is now truly connecting to its roots and originality. So glad to see ground reality stories that we could relate to our childhoods. Movies like this should come often.

kallu malikappuram is the star of the movie
gangeshgnair20 February 2023
Malikappuram works because of the amazing performance by Devananda as Kalyani and its engaging writing.

Devnanda is the star of this movie, i never thought i would cry watching this movie, but what a performance by this young actress. The character is written so nicely, such a likable character, i just started caring for her simple desires and for her. The movie works emotionally because of such a nice writing. The father daughter relationship, the friendship between the two kids, unni mukundans character and his relation with the kid, it all fell in place perfectly. So the movie works.

Since the movie has a very simple writing, it may feel a bit preachy at times, that's the only negative point i felt in the movie.

A very enjoyable feel good movie.

A scintillating presentation of complex emotions and human resolve
prasoonscorner8 January 2023
Very rarely do you watch a movie that takes you on a beautiful journey, and watching Maalikappuram was one of those rare journeys that everyone would want to take at least once in their lifetime.

The movie had all the commercial elements of a family entertainer and rivetting performances from the lead and supporting actors, that will take you through a myriad of emotions that will linger with you even after the movie.

If you are thinking that you are heading to watch a devotional movie, then let me break it to you, it is not a devotional movie, it's a mass entertainer, crime thriller, and at the same time a feel-good movie, placed in a devotional ambience.

So watch it! Feel it! And get entertained, make sure you have your seat belts on!

Great Movie with the blessings of lord ayyappa
tmwckk4 January 2023
Such a good movie and Excellent casting. The whole movie is about malikappuram Kallu the little girl with an aim /determination to see lord ayyappa. The kind of acting is just amazing kid. Hatsoff to swami piyush unni done his part very well . Unnimukundan as an actor has really scaled up and has delivered spledid performance through out the movie. Must say I have witnessed Unnimukundans career best performance in this movie. The movie is actly a journey to lord ayyappa with a great balance of humour ,emotions, fight sequences ,adventure etc. Well Hatsoff to the entire crew behind this wonderful flick I really have seen lord Ayyappa through your great work.

Cringe
rishaanx11 May 2023
Serial level of making . Overacts and no proper story . Boring .. had to forward when watching .

No idea why this boring movie had so much hype .

Malikappuram is a movie that tries to create a fan following for religion among kids. , "#Malikappuram - started slowly & picking up well towards Interval .#Malikappuram is a dedication to #LordAyyappa from the team..post interval emotional scenes, entire 2nd half, forest fight, bgm & songs, forest fight needs special mention. Unnimukundan screen presence.

It seemed like propaganda film. And the villain part is bad . Very narrow story and co starts were bad . Just a bad movie.

What a terrific movie !!!!
ajithinside8 January 2023
Malayalam industry was influenced by MDMA pshyco mafia for last 5 or more years. This film brings back the legacy of malayalam cinema and it's very rooted and real representation of malayali people. Brilliant screenplay, acting, direction, songs and bg. Those kids were acted brilliantly!! Amazing package. Everyone must watch this movie atleast once in theatre to get the divine feeling just like what we experienced in kantara. Climax is brilliantly executed....... This is easily one of the very best movie released in recent years.. Brilliant screenplay, acting, direction, songs and bg. Those kids were acted brilliantly!! Amazing package. Everyone must watch this movie atleast once in theatre to get the divine feeling just like what we experienced in kantara. Climax is brilliantly executed.......

Boring and drab
sreejitunni6 March 2023
There is nothing in this movie. It has a ridiculous plot with characters that are just fanatics who only talk about religion every minute of their lives. There is nothing wrong in creating a movie that tries to use religion and God for its narrative. But this movie has only that and nothing else that makes you want to watch this movie.

The reason why this movie doesn't have many bad reviews here is because only people that are swayed by this propaganda movie actually saw it and cared to write a review. It's one of the most boring movies I've seen this year with shallow one dimensional characters and a razor thin plot that can't even fill 30 minutes of screentime. The overacting of both the kids(which I'm sure is because of the director and stakeholders encouraging it for this cheesy hollow movie to gain traction) make you cringe throughout the movie.

Do yourself a favour and just don't watch it even to find how cringe it can be. Let this movie slowly fade away and be forgotten. That's all it deserves. It's a commercially successful movie which failed in every other regards.

Experience from this Sabarimala journey - eyes of Kallu
anandaavishnu10 January 2023
I'm not gonna talk abt the techniques, story telling, + or -. Felt like sharing what I felt watching this master piece

Maligapuram ( journey to Sabarimala). Maligapuram - sabarimalavin kaapaval aanal antha maligapurathukey oru sothanai endral Puli mithu varuvan en Ayyappan 🙏🏼🙏🏼

The movie starts with a frame of ayyapan ( for our super hero ). Any ayyappan devotees will have goosebumps seeing his hero on a bigger screen.

The first scene starts with Jyoti. What a moment - true bliss to watch and I'm sure everyone feels the divine behind it.

Jyoti aaga arambitha padam harivarasanam paattil mudithanar ( starts with Jyoti and ends with harivarasanam - song used to make ayyappan sleep / bring peace to ur heart ).

Deva Nandha ( girl lead and our own maligapuram of this movie ) - as the name means God's joy ( joy comes out of knowing god ). You can literally visualize how much this girl loves ayyappan , and wanted to see him desperately. Her actual joy is not about having then mittai but sharing with Ayyappan is actual joy.

The first half completely goes with dad and daughter bonding. Dad promised to take her to see ayyapan and how he couldn't make it up.

U will end up in tears wen she was forced to remove the maalai due to her personal situation. You would feel bad why god is cruel, why can't he give dharshan to the Lil one but our super hero is known to play all thiruvilaiyadal ( appan buthi iruka thana seiyum ).

As a director, u can teach an artist to emote any sort of scene but for a Lil girl - it's not easy to show that kaathal, ekkam, emartram, mana thirupthi, puripu, kovam abt ayyappan.. her eyes speak in lot of frames abt her wish to see ayyapan atleast for one time.

Ayyappan kitta enna ketka pora. Kid answer : en Patti sonnanga ayyappan kitta thaan en appa poittar nu , so ayyapan kitta en appa ah nalla padiya parthuko nu solluva nu. That maligapuram nailed it.

Ella thadaikalaiyum thaandi 18 padi erum kaatchi. Sathyam ah orutharala nadika mudiyathu antha scene unless neenga aathmarthama ayyana nenacha mattum thaan mudiyum. Kannula sottu thanni vazhiya, padikattula irukara thaniya thottu kannula vekara maligapuram - pure goosebumps moments. Malai podra kaatchi, malaiya remove panra kaatchi, pamba bus la eri pogum kaatchi, irumudi kattum kaatchi, ayyanuku then mittai kudukum kaatchi and all the frames Deva Nandha has lived as a pure Ayyappan devotee..

Best experience: night show 1am - movie ends : title card starts and our own harivarasanam ( yesudas Iyya voice ). Best feel that u can have ever. A lots of things I haven't mentioned but this definitely worth watch for all Ayyappan devotees.

Swami saranam🙏🏼🙏🏼

Sreepath and deva nandha excellent
beyondsanjith8 January 2023
Excellent acting performance by sreepath and deva nanda throughout the film... Hope that deva nandha will emerge out to be one of the leading actress in malayalam film industry in future... Sreepath acting was excellent...especially his humorous statements in the film made all the audience to laugh in the theatre.. Unni mukundan screen presence was awesome and the fight scenes were also well shooted.... Songs were excellent... Though unni mukundan was present only in the second half of the film, he made a decent and excellent performance... Shaiju also did a good and sentimental role, pisharody gave a good support to it....

🕉🙏🏼 I am blessed Swami Saranam
samirwk8 January 2023
🕉🙏🏼 I am blessed to watch this movie . I am from Uttar Pradesh but I drove to another town to experience the magic of this movie. I have experienced the divinity of Sabarimala due to this movie hence for the people living outside Kerala the movie is a very good way of learning the divinity of the entire pilgrimage process of worshipping at Sabarimala and experience the hardships devotees experience in doing this journey. Congratulations to the makers of this movie and I would request them to show the rich and ancient sanatan Dharmic culture of Kerala in future movies and to show us all the ancient temples and ashrams of Kerala . 🙏🏼 Swami Sarnam.

Just a bad movie
gokulv-9534731 January 2023
I am not getting into the problematic ways the movie is marketed or how it plays the religion card to get out of criticism.

It's just a bad movie. The first half is spent entirely trying to "establish" characters. One dimensional unconvincing characters and a bland story which was very lazily written. The entire first half nothing happens. The decisions the characters take are not justified. It's just lazy writing and it's plain boring. The 2 child actors are a little cringe, they'll get better eventually, but it's sad how it looks like the director has encouraged them to go over the top with their acting. It was just cringe.

Second half starts at the promise of something happening. But then it falls flat on its face and nothing happens again. There is a template villain and the his stares occupy a major part of the movie. The cheesy and just plain bad dialogues are just cringe and sad. The only decent thing is the one stunt, which was clearly where all the budget seems to have been allocated.

Short version of the review: Just a bad movie. Avoid it.

Amazing.. Depicts true Malayali Indian people
svpsai-265402 January 2023
Amazing movie. In recent times malayalam movies had anti Hindu anti India element due to communist islamic influences.. Especially through beef reference in many past movies.. This stands different as the perfect malayalam movie with Indian sanathani culture representing the real malayalees.. This is pround indian cinema..Apart from Unni mukundan stellar performance,The child actress was amazing, especially her innocence and her real life bhakthi towards ayyappa was the highlight of the film.. Especially her performance in the movie made the movie real.. Most of the people were having tears in their eyes and also happines and smile once the show was over.

A movie not even worth a single watch
leyasusanviju16 February 2023
I wanted to know what was the hype going on with the movie. It's just basically a documentary based on cheap religious rituals which are highly outdated or should be .The cast is inferior and the plot is problematic at every level. The attempt at including emotional and comical aspect was pathetic. The movie is not even addressing the ongoing issue regarding entry of women..and still holds onto the primitive thought process and customs. Overall it's a shameful performance and gives out a problematic societal outlook.

Most of the characters lack depth and gives out below standard performance. The production would be best suited as a documentary for a select audience and should never have been made into movie.

Devine Malayalam Hit at 2022 Mandalakalam
BharatMovieBot6 January 2023
Am so happy that Malayalam movie Industry is also getting cleansed divinely. Just like happening in Sandalwood industry with the Kantara.

A particular set of pseudo Secular people always try to Tarnish the great Sanatana Dharma with really stupid movies like 'The Great India Kitchen' , this movie is a tight slap on their face.

We normally don't tend to Tarnish others beliefs like others, it only happens when we are forced to.

Unni Sir hats off to you, it needs a great amount of efforts to go against the gradient and come up with something fabulous divine like this.

Wishing for more movies like this to come.

Swamiye Saranam Ayappa.

No words can describe this pure gem💯💯
mivinsalvatore12 January 2023
No doubt this is what we call a💯 movie.... Other movies actors, actress, directors, script writers so and so...Try to Learn, This is what we call success and true entertainment👍Don't bring garbage movies at the name of entertainment 😏. And I really want to say this the child actress who played role of kallu/kalyani definitely got a good future by all means💯 I don't think anyone can replace her in acting(She is living in it) and Unnimukundan's true talent and choice of script💯 rest of other casts all did their part well👌 If you guys miss this theatre experience then that's what we call a true loss of entertainment... There are alot of garbage movies out there with budget of crores and millions, They really sucks😏 That's not entertainment... That's what we call garbage😏

A must watch family movie
archanasvijayan8 January 2023
A must watch feel good movie. Its all about positivity. I respect all the actors who gave their best..unnimukundan is really talented actor. And those two kids were really fab. Each and every actor played their character really gud. Its not about hindu or hindu gods. Its about positivity and hope. And the climax is really really good. Manoj k jayan who has just two minute screentime also excelled with his dialogue. I really liked the villians acting too. And the actors who acted as kallu's ( small kids charactors name) parents acted really well.. We will cry, we will laugh, we will clap, and finally we will get a good satisfaction while watching this movie.

Not for the average moviegoer
xmdcbdw15 January 2023
If you're a family that can relate to the Sabarimala Pilgrimage, you could watch this in theatres and have some relatable jokes here and there. But if you're an average moviegoer, you'll have a tough time enjoying the movie.

This is a review for the movie as a movie. As a movie it fails to have an engaging narrative. The story has an undercooked plot. It lags considerably. The moment when Unni Mukundan's character is introduced to the movie, we expect the movie to gain some pace and be better. But it falls short.

There is a stunt sequence inspired from RRR which is shot well. That was enjoyable. But as for the whole movie, can't say it's for an average moviegoer. This is only meant for a specific audience, and if you're not that, then it's best if you skip it.

DIVINE HIT!!
ratheeburning8 January 2023
Really a touching experience. Been a long time since I could find a movie that a family of 3 different generations could watch happily. A little bit teary eyes, The grace of Unni mukundan and the positivity is so much felt throughout his appearance in the movie. The movie took us a step closer to experiencing the divine. Ayappa is an emotion and it was justified.

It has a few fun elements that reminds us of the childhood, The innocence we had at a point in our life is presented very well through the child actors. The movie ends in a good note. It was very enjoyable altogether for any generation.

A really must watch movie.

Type of variety mollywood movie than usual movies
abdulbasith-8742827 January 2023
Beautiful movie with great scenarios and frames and story. Malikappuram is a movie with strong story like Nandanam in that also Balamani wants to see Krishna and in that she is fully trusted by that power There is a magical presence for her in the movie like that kalluz also finds a similar belief towards ayyappan I felt similarity in these 2 movies and today I watched Nandanam again and some interesting things.

Back in 2002 Nandanam surely bring the same feelings to the audience and back in 2002 it was a visual treat for new audiences it might seems there is no connection but the story are different I am tacking about the belief that offered through out the character which makes the character special to the viewers and in this film also he might be inspired from these iconic movies also for sure I want to ask him personally when we meet.

A Divine Journey Film
skmenon19937 January 2023
***Malikappuram Malayalam Movie Review***

5/5 ⭐

Directed by Vishnu Sasi Shankar

Starring Unni Mukundan Deva Nandha , Sreepath , Saiju Kurup in lead role...

Plot of The Movie...

8 years old Kallu alias Deva Nandha is in utmost desparation & desire to meet her God Lord Ayyapan. Her father promised that this time he will take to Sabarimala but destiny is written different for Kallu and how Kallu fulfills her wish forms rest part of the movie...

There are few movies where we cannot observe any negativity and Malikappuram is one of it...

Deva Nandha's performance had grabbed the attention, love & blessings of the audience. Her smile, her innocence, her honest devotion towards the god, had beautifully been performed by her.

Another stellar performance was for Sreepath playing the role of Kallu's cousin. His presence was full of laughter...

Unni Mukundan performance was noteworthy. Although the movie focuses on the child's performance, but his performance was something which cannot be forgotten. One of the career best films in Unni Mukundan filmography.

Saiju Kurup playing as Kallu's performance had given tears to us.

Overall the movie offfers the divine journey towards the Lord 🙏🙏🙏🙏

Great Movie!
efreederzx10 January 2023
An emotional family thriller and a mass entertainer that will take you on a roller coaster ride of emotions!

After watching Kantara, watching Maalikkappuram was like watching a story that you hold closer to your heart, with characters and emotions that you can relate to.

Nowadays you rarely get satisfaction after you walk out of a theatre, but this was a different experience, from the actors to the technical crew, every person associated with the movie has done a great Job!

The lead characters flawlessly connect to you at a subconscious level through their realistic and well-paced acting & natural dialogue style.
