Quirky Corny Hilarity - "Resident Alien" S02 Part 2 (E09-16) Review
JoshuaMercott26 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Resolving the challenges that were established in season 2 part 1 of "Resident Alien", this set of episodes saw Harry Vanderspeigle continue his comedic quest to return to his native alien planet. Part 2 thus rounded off a superb, hilarious, and memorable season 2 of "Resident Alien", and they even gave it a wonderful twist at the end, promising more extraterrestrial madness in future.

Directors Kabir Akhtar, Warren P. Sonoda, Brennan Shroff, and Robert Duncan McNeill did outstanding work in part 2. Writing episodes 9 to 16 for this part were Cherry Chevapravatdumrong, Christian Taylor, Zach Cannon, Nastaran Dibai, Jenna Lamia, Sarah Beckett, Emily Eslami, Jeffrey Nieves, and Chris Sheridan who addressed pending mysteries admirably and did not compromise on comedy.

Amazing work all round by the stunts, VFX, editing, and sound effects teams. Noah Sorota's musical scoring continued to delight. Ana M. Amortegui and Stephen Jackson did superb work on cinematography for part 2. Michael Joy's production design was praiseworthy. Notable work on set decoration and art direction. Christine Thomson did great work on costumes for part 2. Practical effects and hair-makeup were praiseworthy.

Alan Tudyk as Harry Vanderspeigle amped the comedic value of this series. I loved every scene in which he featured, including episodes 9-16 in part 2 of the show. His awkwardness and dark humour continued to engage and regale.

Sara Tomko as Asta Twelvetrees was great. She brought heart to this series. Her father Dan Twelvetrees, played by Gary Farmer, was quite good. Ben Hawthorne (the town mayor), played by Levi Fiehler, was great. He was so naturally funny. Kate Hawthorne (the mayor's wife) as Meredith Garretson was amazing. Max Hawthorne (the annoying but aware kid), played by Judah Prehn, was noteworthy.

D'Arcy Bloom (the barkeep), played by Alice Wetterlund, was superb. Judy Cooper, played by Jenna Lamia, was quite good. Corey Reynolds as Sheriff Mike Thompson was flawless. Elizabeth Bowen as Deputy Liv Baker was astounding. Sahar (Max's friend and the voice of reason), played by Gracelyn Awad Rinke, was memorable. Bobby Smallwood (the alien baby transformed), played by Kesler Talbot, was good. Peter Bach, played by Terry O'Quinn, was a pleasant surprise - he brought great value to this season.

Detective Lena Torres, played by Nicola Correia-Damude, was good. Ellen Cho (the nurse), played by Diana Bang, was amazing. General Eleanor Wright, played by the one and only Linda Hamilton, was great. David Logan, played by Alex Barima, was noteworthy. Elliott, played by Justin Rain, was quite good. Ethan Stone, played by Michael Cassidy, was intriguing. Joseph (the hybrid grey alien), played by Enver Gjokaj, was quite good.

Giorgio A. Tsoukalos, as himself, was an ecstatic surprise. His appearance in the penultimate episode was bonkers-great.

All cast and crew did amazing work in part 2 of "Resident Alien" now streaming via Amazon Prime VOD.

I already reviewed season 2 part 1, so I'm going to keep this one simple and to-the-point. The suspense throughout season 2 was consistent and part 2 did not fail to entertain. Every character contributed something special that added to the craziness which "Resident Alien" has come to be known for.

The Galvan-Powell Group was the villainous hub from which strange goings-on unravelled in part 2, particularly around Goliath. That alien baby was still at large and proved to be as funny as it was creepy. Everything about the mystery-artist Goliath (played by David Bianchi) was superb, including that twist involving Harry. I also loved the various emotions they packed into this season, especially episode 15.

Mistaken identities, veiled threats, murders, deceptions, the meaning of friendship, dangers of the alien-invasion kind, and comedies galore kept part 2 going strong. I enjoyed all eight episodes, and am genuinely looking forward to the invasion of season 3 "Resident Alien". They found a way to add more mysteries, conspiracies, suspense, and plot-twists to work with in the coming season.

Also, when is the official merchandise for this show going to be announced? They better not forget that adorably deadly baby alien - cutesy sounds, crazy growls, and all.

If you don't like the show, don't watch it

"Resident Alien" is a wonderfully quirky show, as much inspired by "Northern Exposure" as "My Favorite Martian", with human characters that, like Harry (the alien), become more human over time.

I don't usually write reviews, but sweet jesus, the handful of harsh reviews from simplistic backbiters is annoying.

Not every show has to be written for the lowest common denominator and no show can possibly appeal to everybody.

You don't enjoy the show's quirks? Fine: move on. Let those of us who enjoy it continue to do so without dragging it down. You'll doubtless find the kind of fare you're looking for every night on the networks.

Go with god, but go now.

The UFO culture references are great

This show is very quirky and the comedy takes some getting used to but you quickly wanna see more and more.

Harry is a quirky, funny, alien who's taken the place of what i am guessing was not a good person and he's made him good in a very strange way.

Now, this show definitely isn't for everyone. You have to have a certain type of sense of humor to like this show.

There is an element of "I've learned something today" in this series and an element that makes the heart feel good about being human.

They've got nice guest stars and that adds an element of spice to the show. Seeing Linda Hamilton was a nice addon.

This show, without a doubt, tends to evolve over time and it doesn't soley focus on the main character, it tends to move over to the female's relationships more than usual.

I dunno, there may be more to say.... I'm currently in season 3.

The nail in the coffin
BLAlley2 October 2022
The show already ran out of gas regarding the premise and has since has meandered between pointless side stories featuring the cardboard characters that I care nothing about.

I really only watched the show because of Alan Tudyk, but even his performance seems to have devolved into a parody.

I am also puzzled by the sudden appearance of interviews of actual people. At first I thought it was a behind the scenes special episode, but instead it turned out to be the show trying to convince the audience flying saucers are real (they are not). That was the final straw. I can't watch a show that treats the audience like we're stupid.

Too many characters
g-herm6630 April 2023
I haven't felt entertained by this show for quite a few episodes at this point. The side stories are uninteresting and juvenile. The humor is made for kids. Season one felt like a real show. Season two feels like a Nickelodeon or Disney program.

I rather see less episodes with more meaning. I fast forwarded most of season two. The jokes are lame and Harry hasn't become more human, he's as clueless as ever. The kids and Dan are my favorite characters outside of Harry.

I don't care about the"real" people alien encounters. The bad guys are lame and I'm close to fast forwarding their scenes.

I hope the writing gets back to Harry and his struggles.

I think we should leave it there,
Rob-O-Cop5 October 2022
Harry got some ok comedy bits as did sheriff, but the rest was terrible.

Interesting to see the pr team from walking dead has been hired to address the bad reviews here. All bad reviews but also all voted down, and no one has a good thing to say about this show now, mostly because they've all stopped watching.

The real life alien experience interviews had no relevance to the mess of a story being dragged along, which we're kind of used to for this season but even so it reeked of a work experience script team member managing to get their below average idea green lite when it should have been red binned.

It just didn't make any sense. They were trying and failing to link it to real alien experience people, and it's a stupid comedy show where Alan Tudyk riffs off the one note theme of the show, he's an alien with bad manners who does what we'd like to do, ie be rude, eat to much and fake his way through life.

D'arcy's bit was painful. I get that it was a set up for a weak joke ("alien reveal, not the big thing he thought it would be etc" haha), but she's overstayed her welcome as a character and it kinda ruined the gag.

This bus ride is over and I think we're all getting off at this stop, wishing we'd got off at last seasons final episode instead. This season has been a drag in 2 parts, and they could have addressed it after the first half of the season had aired, but they pretty much stayed the course apart from cutting back on the lashings of moralising and lecturing.

Unfortunately the series has been renew for a 3rd season but I can't see this series coming right. It's a shame cos Alan Tudyk did a good job, and I did like the dynamic between some of the other characters, sheriff mike and the kids mostly.

I Believe in Aliens.
bombersflyup29 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I Believe in Aliens is amusing in how bad it is really. Which means the show's still got likeable qualities. The dialogue's gotten so lazy though, just like Max says. I guess something's actually happening here, but it's still unnecessarily meandering with Harry leaving, then staying. Harry's alien child which last episode they rescued, now gone, but a fair portion of the episode devoted to. So it's such a waste of time, haha. Every scene with Linda Hamilton for the entire series has been so terrible and irrelevant. They obviously signed on a name and had no material or purpose for her either.

I Believe in Aliens
Prismark1026 April 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The finale has a framing device of testimonials from people who might have had alien encounters. It culminates with Deputy Liv Baker talking about her own sighting of a UFO.

The documentary setting just gets in the way and really serves as a filler.

With General McCallister being the antagonist so far. She is now being seen as a potential ally for the third season.

Goliath tells Harry to save the General. She is needed to fight the Grays.

Harry also has to deal with alien baby that he calls Bridget. Maybe Harry has to say his goodbyes and return to his own planet with the alien baby.

In fact by this episode not only has Harry become a father to Bridget. He has an adult son in Robert, the son of the Alien Tracker.

There is no going away with the second season having disappointed. An unfocussed messy series arc. So many episodes were dull and confused.

Many other shows would have been cancelled by now. The finale could not salvage a poor season.
