Another strong episode with all the major cast back this week after notable absences by the likes of Al, Bert and Mrs Tishell last time out. Typically, the all get major roles this time.

The shoe has become known for its quirky patient names but I didn't spot any this time which was a disappointment.

Despite that, and an obvious birthday cake issue, the story was funny as well as compelling.

Penhale and Janice play smaller parts this time while Ruth and Morwena whom were in the last story appear here quite noticeably.

Things are starting to wind down for the end of the show but still good quality.

Much More Sentimental

We have one regular episode left of this show. This one focuses on the Doc's decision to pack up and move to London to accept a prestigious position. When a loudmouthed waitress overhears their conversation, she spreads the news to the whole town, most of whom are up in arms over the "betrayal." Each voices their displeasure over his actions. We realize that he is so significant in the community, even though his autistic traits have driven people away. They really do need him and this is an issue. The other focus is the man who stuck his neck out to get Martin's license back after his bad behavior. It has to do with Louisa being kissed during some drunkenness. Anyway, it's another end and I will be sorry to see it go, although they may have exhausted the stories. One thing I will not miss and I alway wished they would have gotten rid of. It's that pack of teenaged girls who wander around and taunt him when he walks by. They are cruel and unnecessary and he is undeserving of this disdainful behavior.

Not perfect but darn good

As the series winds down I am sticking with my opinion that it is best when focusing on Martin and Louisa's relationship. As they agonize over whether to move to London or not the viewers can see how both characters have grown in dealing with each other. I didn't find Bert's plumbing scenes necessary for this episode. It was strongest when showing how the locals were dealing with the London news. Of course there must be an outlandish disaster that only the Doc can fix. Here is where I had issues. After bobbing around in the frigid waters of Cornwall Al was ready to resume his picnic, pefectly dry and warm, with Morwenna. Likewise the Doc's suit isn't even damp after orchestrating a water rescue.

I have a feeling we will need to have tissues ready for the final episode.

A lot's happening here.

At the very end of the previous episode, Doc Martin was offered a prestigious job as the Dean of Medicine. Considering it will be something he can mostly do despite his hemophobia and it pays very well, you think he'd run to take the job. However, here in the next episode, he's vacillating. After all, Louisa loves Portwenn and the kids are settled there.

Unfortunately, someone overhears Martin talking about this with a colleague...and soon the entire town is talking about it. But as of this point, he hasn't even taken the job.

Other plots involve Bert taking some responsibility for his blunder, the colleague and his wife nearly dying and needing Martin's help and Morwenna's decisions now that she might be losing her job.

This is a very good episode. I normally don't like Bert Large but here he at least shows a bit more character than usual. Overall, well worth seeing...and a show that sure makes me hope the Martin's make the right choice.
