- Maester Harwyn: ["Alester gives the child to Cersei" ending] If I might say so, my lord, you did what you had to do and accepted your responsibilities. There is once again a Lord Sarwyck at the head of Riverspring and I thank the Gods for that. Your father would be proud of you.
- Alester Sarwyck: But at what price, Harwyn? Father and Gawen are dead. My bastard half-brother murdered Elyana right before my eyes. The people of Riverspring... why did so many have to die? And Mors... I killed my best friend, a man who was practically my brother... this, fifteen years after I took the lives of his family. And to what end? To hold Riverspring? To hold onto a name? Open your eyes, Harwyn... Riverspring is now nothing but a lifeless heap of stone and the Sarwyck name hangs by a thread. I've betrayed... I've murdered... I've lost everything. The strength of the Sarwycks lies neither in their lands nor in their name, but rather in the blood of their people.
- Maester Harwyn: My lord, I won't allow you to talk that way. I know what you've endured, but you saved the honor of House Sarwyck. That is worth more than stone or blood. You are Lord Sarwyck. You have a name to uphold.
- Alester Sarwyck: I care not for my name, Harwyn. What good is a name with no one to carry it on? What good is a town without a soul?
- Maester Harwyn: It's not just your name, Lord Alester. It's your father's name, and it's all that's left of him. Don't destroy it. You have a town to rebuild. Your people need you.
- Alester Sarwyck: You're not listening to me, Harwyn. Leave me be.
- Maester Harwyn: My lord...
- Alester Sarwyck: Get out!
- [Alester is last seen staring into the fire, a noose hanging from the ceiling behind him]
- Cersei: ["Alester saves the child" ending] You will not back out of an agreement made with me, Ser Alester.
- Alester Sarwyck: [Alester tosses his sword at Cersei's feet] Before she died the girl birthed a child. A boy. The seed is strong. Rest assured that I've taken all necessary measures to ensure that neither you nor your lackeys can get to him. You won't have this one killed. As for me, I will no longer be your pawn.
- Cersei: You've gone mad! Guards!
- [Lannister guards surround Alester]
- Cersei: When you play the game of thrones, Ser Alester, you win or you die. There is no middle ground.
- Alester Sarwyck: Better to die than to be tainted!
- [as Cersei leaves, the guards kill Alester]
- Mors Westford: ["Mors returns to the Wall" ending] Whether of cold, a wildling's axe, of your own cowardice, you are all just marking time. We are already dead. All of us. Accept it.
