Watch your back, Hulu. IndieWire surveyed 15 network toppers this summer on a range of questions, including the show they’d most like to steal from a rival. The top show they coveted was easily Hulu’s “The Handmaid’s Tale,” the timely story of a totalitarian dystopia that is on track to potentially win the Outstanding Drama Series Emmy this month.
Execs also raved about a variety of other recent series, including the HBO documentary “The Defiant Ones,” about the relationship between billionaire music moguls Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre. And the network honchos were given a chance to single out an upcoming (or recently aired) show that they believe is destined to become a surprise hit. As the industry prepares for another fall season, here’s some insight into what TV’s top executives are thinking, and what’s concerning them most.

Celebrities definitely weren't afraid to throw some serious shade in 2016.
Whether the shade surprised you -- who knew there was so much drama on the Fast 8 set? -- or whether it made you cringe, let's take a look back at the most epic disses of the year in chronological order.
1. Kanye West Goes Off on Wiz Khalifa
Kanye West went on one of his most memorable rants ever in January, when he went In on rapper Wiz Khalifa over the course of 17 tweets. West called the "See You Again" rapper's first single "corny as f*ck", claimed no one ever listened to any of Khalifa's albums "all the way through," but also gave him a backhanded compliment on his style.
"I think you dress cool, I wish I was skinny and tall," West tweeted. "Maybe I couldn't be skinny and tall but I'll settle for being the greatest artist of all time as a consolation."

Question: On Scandal, don’t you think Jake would be a good match for Mellie? —Sara
Ausiello: I’m not feeling it. Besides, if my hunch is correct (tee-hee, when isn’t it?!), the new fortysomething character the show is currently casting — a handsome, charismatic fella named Andrew — will be keeping company with Bellamy Young’s love-starved Flotus. And, if this is who they end up hiring, we deserve some kind of trophy or medal. Or something.

Los Angeles — Nine years ago, the inaugural episode of "Lost" captured Comic-Con attendees' imaginations when it first premiered at the fan-driven extravaganza, and the surreal series about plane crash survivors went on to become a cultural phenomenon. This year, more than 10 new shows are angling to land similar success when they touch down in San Diego this week.
Such new live-action series as "The Avengers" spin-off "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.," android buddy cop drama "Almost Human" and supernatural saga "Sleepy Hollow," which stars British actor Tom Mison as Ichabod Crane, will be hyped with Comic-Con presentations. The mission? Attract cult followings akin to "The Walking Dead" and "Game of Thrones."
"Going to Comic-Con has always been really, really, really high up on my list of things I've wanted to achieve in my career," said Mison. "The first of them is going to Comic-Con. The other is becoming an action figure.

The East combines two movie genres, a deep undercover spy story with a drama that brings social issues to the discussion, specifically targeting the gray areas.
Brit Marling is Jane, a Christian, Republican and a corporate spy lying to her boyfriend (Jason Ritter) about what she does. Her director (Patricia Clarkson) selects her to be the one to infiltrate a group of eco-terrorists that call themselves “The East,” who hide deep in the woods to plan out vengeful acts to the heads of corporations and shame them for their hurtful crimes that they can buy their way out of. They want those who are destroying the land for profit to be held accountable for being careless with their operations.
These “jams” are not designed to hurt people, but some of the events that draw their interest are a large oil spill, dumping hazardous waste into nearby water supplies that lead to cancer,...

Fox has one of its better slates coming your way with the new season, especially if you take the midseason shows into account. Some of these shows may not jump out at you now as must-see, but some of them are going to take over, if I’m any judge anyway.
Clear showcase offerings Dads, Almost Human, and Us & Them are guaranteed to take off early. Almost Human has J.J. Abrams recognition to pull people in, though it looks to be a show that could flounder after a few episodes, even if I hope it doesn’t. The other two are going to become hits. Unfortunately, we have to wait until mid-season for the Gavin & Stacey remake.
Rake also looks like a winner, as long as the translation can be made to work as an Americanized product, and the show actually delivers what made the Australian original so brilliant.
