The film was originally set to be entirely in color. It was at the suggestion of actress Katie Veneziano that a clearer separation between past and present- fantasy and reality- be made. The fact that many dream in black and white also supported the choice.
During production, director Jacob Bittens found in his basement an old toy from his childhood- a music maker. Severely damaged and out of tune, the toy would ultimately replace much of the soundtrack. Its eerie melody can be heard at the beginning and end of the film.
With the exception of one shot- filmed entirely in order. Actress Nadia Gilbert was filmed walking in front of a green screen before principal photography began.
None of the shots featuring Katie Veneziano driving were filmed on the road. An idle vehicle was filmed in a driveway at night, with a rotating flood light on one side to simulate passing streetlights, and a fan running at the other to create a breeze. All car shots were also filmed in close up to avoid revealing the static exterior. The shots of the legs and the beer bottle rolling were also accomplished this way.
