This is a gripe more than a review. I did give it 9/10 because I do love the additions of Gary Cole and Katrina Law and, in my opinion, NCIS (DC) doesn't get enough love since Gibbs' departure. I do agree with many of the points made in the Eye Roller's review but i rarely overthink anything I see in any episode as long as it was even marginally entertaining because that means it was a good distraction. However, in full disclosure, I would have to give my rating as "Incomplete" since I was able to watch only one-third of the crossover. I did enjoy watching three different NCIS-verses working together in one episode, that was a lot of fun. Okay, back to my gripe - I often watch my "new" episodes on ION and when these crossovers play they leave you hanging big time because the next episode after NCIS Season 20, Episode 10 is NCIS Season 20, Episode 11 not NCIS Hawaii Season 2, Episode 10, it is super lame. Either remove any crossovers from the rerun rotation or play the entire story line in the correct order. They already skip 1 or 2 episodes here and there occasionally, at least do it for the right reasons...

Not sure

Warning: Spoilers
I'm not sure about this. NCIS has been wavering for some time and with all the hype this cross over was given I was excited. But the two key people (the trainer and the bad guy) are totally new characters.

There's been no build up of this in any of the previous episodes. It just appeared. I'd care more about the dead trainer if I knew who he was. I'd care more about the bad guy if I knew who he was. Think about bad guys in previous series - slow build up with bits added every so often. Ari and Sergie are my favourite baddies. Even the Ziva returns baddie of Sarah.

On a plus, was nice to see the various teams link back to Gibbs and his rules.

I'm hoping it'll get better.

Too Many Cooks

Warning: Spoilers
An appropriately titled episode as the introduction of the three part crossover episode it was since there is no logic as to why all of the departments would be needed to investigate this one.

Regardless, it was good to see the crossover and aside from all of the shows needing that ratings boost, it was entertaining nevertheless. Vanessa Lachey should pop up more often on this show as she plays well off the core NCIS castmembers, but I don't know if I have the time to add NCIS: Hawaii to a watchlist.

A good start to the episode, and maybe the jolt of energy the series and franchise needs right now.

The Crossover Event I have been waiting for since 2014

Warning: Spoilers
I have been waiting for this crossover event since after NCIS New Orleans(2014-2021) came on the air and I thought we would get all three teams together. Now we got to them together and some of each team meeting other members and in this event and this was originally going to air on January 2nd after the new year. I also enjoyed the mentioning of Gibbs rules and it's been long since after rule 91 and the first 4 episodes of season 19. I enjoyed the premise of a rogue CIA Program being used to kill Frienlies and not just are Enemies. I enjoyed this with the Law and Order Crossover event started.

Entertaining when my eyes weren't rolling ...

I agree with other reviews, i. E., geography makes such collaboration implausible. Would NCIS really pay for a few agents to attend a retirement party? Wait. I take that back. Our government pays for far stupider things. I digress.

The plot - evil CIA - is trite but the story moved along. My eyes roll at usual absurdities:

  • 110 pound female agents routinely, even when jumped from behind, whup arses of 200 pound highly trained killers and hardly a bruise;
  • Already knowing they're in pursuit of a secret army wielding "military grade" munitions, our agent still wander off in pairs with no back up;
  • When attacked by said killers wearing body armor and armed with automatic weapons and grenade launchers, our team efficiently takes them all out with hand guns (amazing how thousands of bad guy bullets hit nothing)!

And finally ... PLEASE spare us another in house romance! Dialog amongst these couples makes me gag.

Not the Best
doug2go11 January 2023
The CBS crossover event needed Dick Wolf who knows how to do it - this was an amateur effort at best - the plot was contrived to en-snarl all three agencies , the action was make believe and the writing and directing left a lot to be desired . The problem is geography forcing a contrived reason to bring all three agencies together - Dick Wolf is dealing with Chicago - NCIS is dealing with 6000 miles of geography - it doesn't work and didn't . - I will give them a 7 for effort - the one big sticking point that fortunately was played down in this crossover was the Doctor nerd - he needs to go away and as soon as possible especially for Jessica - she is a decent replacement for Ziva but not if she hooks up with the Doctor clown - if that keeps up I will be forced to watch something else on Monday night - it almost makes me want to throw up.

Has its moments

Warning: Spoilers
Never been a huge fan of these crossovers "NCIS" has been doing since the 12th season. In my opinion, it feels quite forced to cut one story into parts and having to watch multiple series to see how the narrative plays out. "Too Many Cooks" has its moments though. It's not great, but a decent enough episode.

Let's start with the good.

. The production values of the episode are great. "Too Many Cooks" is well-directed, the music fits the scenery. The acting's solid for the most part. Noah Mills hasn't grown on me, but it was nice to see Chris O'Donnell and Vanessa Lachey.

. The story is compelling at times. Liked the theme of how much we actually know the people we care about. The story does set up a promising villain and appreciated the effort of tying in the "NCIS" universe. The banter between different teams is occasionally fun.

But...

. Having different "NCIS" teams to work on a single case wasn't used to its full potential. Wished for more banter and less building up to a crossover. Not all of the dialogue is spot on and the story does take quite a bit of time for the teams to work as one. The mystery drags too.

Overall, a fine episode.

6/10 HK.
