Manager/producer Larry Thompson is making another run for a Southern California congressional seat, this time in a district represented by Rep. Brad Sherman (D-ca).
Thompson has entered the race as a Republican, after seeking a seat as an independent in 2020.
In his kickoff statement, Thompson noted that he had been a talent representative for 50 years and as “either their lawyer or personal manager I have spent a career listening, caring, nurturing, planning, marketing, negotiating, and enhancing their personas and lives. I now want to be a ‘Representative’ of the people who live in our California 32nd District to do those things for them even more profoundly, give them a voice, and empower their lives.”
Thompson said that he is running as a moderate Republican seeking common ground and said that “the polarized political positions in our nation have become dangerous in many ways.” On issues, he cites the need...

'Boom!' movie with Elizabeth Taylor: Critically panned box office disaster featuring memorable headwear. 'Boom!' movie: Elizabeth Taylor & Richard Burton critical & box office bomb reappraised as 'cult classic' fare If you've never seen Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton's 1968 vanity production Boom!, don't feel singled out. Boom! bombed at the box office almost as soon as it blasted on the screen. Since then, however, it has been rediscovered. Directed by Joseph Losey from a screenplay by Tennessee Williams (based on his play The Milk Train Doesn't Stop Here Anymore), Boom! is a good example of a movie depicting art imitating life imitating art; one that deserves to be described in detail. Sexually repressed temper tantrums and bronchial attacks By then a two-time Academy Award winner, Elizabeth Taylor (Butterfield 8, 1960; Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?, 1966) plays Flora “Sissy” Goforth, a middle-aged, sexually repressed American (inspired by and written...

I remember a time when Grace of Monaco was an Oscar hopeful in everyone's eyes. It opened the Cannes Film Festival in 2014, Nicole Kidman was playing a screen legend sure to garner some attention, Olivier Dahan was directing (whose La Vie En Rose garnered Marion Cotillard an Oscar), and The Weinstein Company was sure to position it like they did The Imitation Game. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. After receiving scathing reviews from just about everyone out of Cannes and no one wanting to touch it with a ten-foot pole, Variety reports the film will premiere on Lifetime on May 25. You read that right. Lifetime. A film that opened Cannes will now be playing on the same station that houses the Lindsay Lohan-starring Liz and Dick and the Grumpy Cat movie. I can hardly believe it myself. Lifetime may not have the same stigmatization to others than it does for myself,...

It's time to raise your glass and rattle your jewelry for a birthday toast to Elizabeth Taylor, who'd have turned 83 on Feb. 27. Though memories of her begin to fade, the legacy of the woman who was perhaps the most beautiful, most popular, most everything movie star of all time remains as vivid as ever.
Younger moviegoers may wonder what all the fuss was about. Here, then, are 13 reasons why Taylor remains, decades after her prime and four years after her death, the queen of Hollywood.
1. In a way, she never left.
Even though she died in 2011, they're still showing her in commercials for her perfume, White Diamonds.
2. She's the original diva.
Long before Beyonce, the Kardashians, Jennifer Lopez, and other current divas, Taylor pretty much invented the concept that a celebrity's offscreen life was just as much a performance as onscreen, and just as much part of the job description.

Lifetime and horror aren’t really synonymous with each other–unless you count the many “abused woman on the run” films the channel used to show. Even still, the network has been known as “television for women,” with their programming gearing towards light romances. However, women love horror too, and since Lifetime has been expanding their portfolio in many different ways, including with unauthorized and/or scandalous biopics, such as “Liz and Dick” and “The Unauthorized Saved by the Bell Story,” the network probably decided it was time to branch out into other areas. Hence their decision to revisit “The Omen.” Lifetime has ordered six episodes of “Damien,” a sequel-of-sorts to “The Omen.” [ Read More ]

The 1963 version of Cleopatra is deemed a terrible movie, mostly by people who have never seen or who only have vague memories of it.
Lee,
You do a fantastic job with your reviews in general, but occasionally you do one that resonates with me, and I like to send you a quick note on those occasions. Your review of The Adventurers is one of those times.
You ask: "How, after all, could a film by a major director and featuring a big all-star cast go so completely wrong? The answer is: it didn't. The Adventurers is not high art, but it doesn't deserve its place in the Razzie book of ten worst films of all time."
With that passage, you hit the nail on the head, in my opinion. I watched this movie a couple of years ago and concur with your review. No way this is one of the worst films of all time.

It was inevitable that Elizabeth Taylor would be portrayed on screen soon following her death in 2011. While Lindsay Lohan's take on her in the Lifetime movie "Liz and Dick" was memorable for all the wrong reasons, Helena Bonham Carter's embodiment of the icon in the BBC/BBC America co-production "Burton and Taylor" is memorable for all the right ones. As expected from an actor of her caliber, Carter nails Taylor's oft-mimicked delivery and larger than life persona; what she also does is dig deep to offer a fully realized portrait of a heartbroken woman at a vulnerable point in her career. Directed by Richard Laxton and written by William Ivory ("Made in Dagenham"), "Burton and Taylor" takes place in 1982, as Taylor and her ex-husband Richard Burton (Dominic West) prepare to make their final stage appearance together in a Broadway revival of Noel Coward's classic play "Private Lives,...

A new trailer for BBC America's "Burton and Taylor," starring Helena Bonham Carter and Dominic West as fiery celebrity couple Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton, has landed. This particular go-round at the Liz and Dick romance focuses on the period of time when the on-again off-again lovers, following their second divorce, were working on their final stage performance together, Noel Coward's "Private Lives" on Broadway in 1983. (Lifetime's 2012 Lindsay Lohan-starring debacle, "Liz and Dick," attempted to cover through flashbacks their entire 20-plus year relationship.) The film aired in the UK back in July, and has its stateside debut on BBC America October 16.

They're like buses, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor biopics. Hot on the heels of the not exactly rapturously received Liz & Dick, comes the BBC's own Burton and Taylor.
As well as a script by William Ivory, what BBC Four has up its sleeve is modern stars Dominic West and Helena Bonham Carter in the lead roles.
The film finds the superstars in the twilight of their acting careers, reunited in a stage production of Noel Coward's Private Lives. Digital Spy got round the table with the duo and some other journalists to ask them all about it.
Did you sympathise mainly with your character or could you see the other side of the coin?
Dominic: "Inevitably you sympathise with your guy - I think that was true of you?"
Helena: "Yeah - I'm much nicer than he is! And cleverer. Funnier..."
Dominic: "The revelation for me was Liz Taylor.

Lifetime has made a biographical TV movie to hold us over as we wait for a new jury to be selected so that Jodi’s trial can continue. The murder case has been so highly publicized and poured over, could a dramatization of the whole thing even be worth it? See how the critics felt!
Lifetime sure isn’t wasting any time. Though usually the network holds off a little bit on making their melodrama, “based on a true story” TV movies (like their Scott Peterson film), they didn’t even wait until Jodi Arias’ trail officially ended before making a movie based on her story, called Jodi Arias: Dirty Little Secret. Check out the photo below. The story revolves around Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor, the legendary acting duo and husband and wife, as they prepare for a 1983 theatrical production of the play, "Private Lives." "Burton and Taylor" is not to be confused with Lindsay Lohan's Lifetime movie "Liz and Dick," in which Lohan portrayed Taylor. Photo: (click to enlarge)...

The legacies of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton are getting a shot at redemption, after being tarnished by the widely panned Lifetime biopic "Liz & Dick" last year. BBC America released a first-look photo at its upcoming TV movie "Burton and Taylor" on Tuesday, and from the looks of things the new take on the Liz and Dick romance will receive a vast and much-needed improvement. Although we're still traumatized from the national nightmare that was Lifetime's unanimously derided "Liz and Dick" biopic, BBC America is hoping to soothe our collective pain with "Burton and Taylor," with Dominic West And Helena Bonham Carter taking over the titular roles last played by Grant Bowler and Lindsay Lohan.
The network has released the first photo of West and Bonham Carter for the 90-minute drama, which follows Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor's private and public relationship, played out against their ill-fated appearance in a 1983 revival of Noel Coward's stage play, "Private Lives." The drama premieres this fall on BBC America and was written by William Ivory ("Made in Dagenham," "Going for Gold") and directed by Richard Laxton ("Effie," "Him And Her," "Hancock").
In a recent statement, BBC Worldwide America General Manager Perry Simon said, “We are thrilled to bring 'Burton and Taylor' to BBC America's Dramaville.

Biopic of film stars' tempestuous relationship stars Dominic West and Helena Bonham Carter in last of BBC channel's big dramas
The BBC has released the first picture of Dominic West and Helena Bonham Carter in costume for its biopic about the final act in the 20 year on-off relationship between Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor.
Burton & Taylor will focus on the final reunion of the pair, already married and divorced twice, on the set of a 1983 stage revival of Noel Coward's Private Lives. The 90-minute BBC4 drama will chart the actors' fraught stint in the play, which opened at Boston's Shubert theatre in April 1983 before moving on to Broadway and Los Angeles.
The meeting on the set of Private Lives reportedly left both actors feeling that their union was irrevocably broken. Burton died the following year at the age of 58. Taylor died from heart failure in March 2011, aged 79.

Casting has officially begun for the Hillary Clinton biopic Rodham, with rumors swirling around which Hollywood actress will play Clinton in the film. (Our own Ali Davis offered to dye her hair if she could get an audition for the part.) Reese Witherspoon, Amanda Seyfried, Jessica Chastain and Scarlett Johansson are all supposedly being considered for the role as the former Secretary of State. These are extremely talented women, but, in my opinion, not right for the coveted role. (If Johansson gets the part I’m moving to Antarctica, though I’m not sure what good that would do.)
Rodham will focus on “the former first lady's early years, chronicling her days as a Washington lawyer in 1974 at the height of the Watergate scandal.” I stand by my original casting choice of Nurse Jackie’s Merritt Wever.

All Is Lost is a man-stranded-at-sea movie, starring Robert Redford, in a role that has almost no dialogue, as a fellow who wakes up in his small yacht, somewhere in the middle of the Indian Ocean, only to discover that a random floating railway car — who knows how it got there? — has gashed a hole in the boat’s hull. It’s like his own miniature iceberg scrape: All of a sudden, his boat could go down, and him with it. Most movies that strand a solitary figure at sea, like Life of Pi, or on a desert island, like...

Studio: 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment
Elizabeth Taylor is Cleopatra.
Twentieth Century Fox’s legendary 1963 epic historical film drama Cleopatra—you know, the one starrig Elizabeth Taylor (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), Richard Burton (The Sandpiper) and Rex Harrison (My Fair Lady) that almost put the studio out of business—finally makes its Blu-ray debut!
Acknowledging the film’s 50th anniversary, the complete 243-minute premiere version of Cleopatra arrives in two formats: As a two-disc Blu-ray and as a double-disc, picture-filled Blu-ray Digibook.
Directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz, the historical epic was the highest grossing film of 1963, though it nearly bankrupted Fox with its unprecedented production cost of $42 million (which is the equivalent to some $300 million today). In addition to elaborate sets and costumes, production delays and the relocation of principal filming from London to Rome added to the skyrocketing budget.

London, May 07(Ani): Lindsay Lohan is keen to leave the Betty Ford Centre, days after her newly rehired lawyer cut a last-minute deal to let her go there.
The troubled 26-year-old actress was lucky to escape an arrest warrant and jail after Shawn Holley made negotiations with the Los Angeles City Attorney.
The 'Liz and Dick' star had walked out of Morningside Recovery in New Beach minutes after arriving, the Daily Star reported.
A source close to her told the publication that Lohan is already begging to switch out of Betty Ford and she has been complaining to everyone that will listen that it isn't the best place for.

Lindsay Lohan is the perfect person to star in Liz & Dick, given that the Lifetime movie’s tag line is “Glamorous, Infamous, Scandalous.”
Lohan plays Elizabeth Taylor at the height of her romance with actor Richard Burton (Grant Bowler, TV’s Defiance). The couple met on the set of Cleopatra and quickly became Hollywood royalty.
Their marriage — called “the marriage of the century” — was the most notorious, publicized and celebrated love affair of its day. They were both married to other people when they met, and paparazzi reveled in telling the story of Liz and Dick leaving their respective spouses, marrying, divorcing, remarrying and divorcing again.
Liz & Dick, which also stars Theresa Russell (Spider-Man 3), Charles Shaughnessy (TV’s Days of Our Lives) and Creed Bratton (TV’s The Office), drew 4 million viewers when it aired on Lifetime.

It was recently reported that "Scary Movie 5" will feature Lindsay Lohan in a scene with Charlie Sheen. That scene will also make fun of the actress and her wild behavior. And now, Dimension Films has decided to release a new image that's a parody of Lohan's "Liz and Dick" movie. It features a look at a DVD cover for a movie called "Liz Loves Dick," with a shot of Lohan standing next to Charlie Sheen who has a massive erection. The studio wrote: "This role was the hardest of her life," referring to Lohan. ComingSoon re-posted the image from the studio's Twitter account. I tried to find the post, but it seems that Dimension has since removed it. You can still see it below. Image: (click to enlarge) Click here to read more about "Scary Movie 5."...

Bates Motel is an interesting idea for a series (and frankly, so is The Carrie Diaries), but like Carrie Bradshaw I have to wonder: Have we nailed the art of the movie prequel TV series yet? I think it remains to be seen.
Today, in honor of A&E's new show about Norman Bates' bizarre past, I say we examine eight movies that could inspire fabulous prequel series. I snuck in two ideas for other Hitchcock prequels in case that's an easy sell right now. Grab your most hideous bridesmaid gown and suggest your options for prequel-worthy movies below.
1. Fatal Attraction
Face it: Alex Forrest should be one of the most interesting characters of the '80s, but because Fatal Attraction corners her into being a two-dimensional psychotic loon, she's never quite as humanized as she should be (despite Glenn Close's exceptional performance). A prequel series would rectify this...

After the campy and somewhat sad spectacle that was Lindsay Lohan's Lifetime movie "Liz and Dick" last fall, BBC America will be offering up its own take on the story of Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor. The network announced today that it will co-produce "Burton and Taylor," a 90-minute TV movie about the volatile relationship between the two Hollywood greats, with BBC Four. Dominic West (who recently starred in BBC America's period drama "The Hour") and Helena Bonham Carter will play Burton and Taylor in a film centered around the pair's ill-fated appearance in a 1983 stage revival of Noel Coward's "Private Lives." In the filmmaking equivalent of the way British spelling adds a superfluous “u” to perfectly fine words such as “honor,” the BBC has opted to honour the lives of Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton with another biopic—this despite that fact that Lindsay Lohan already contributed the definitive performance as Elizabeth Taylor, a person who drank a lot and threw things. Titled Burton And Taylor as a pointedly more “refined” rejoinder to Lifetime’s Liz And Dick, the new film will star Dominic West (who’s having a very mixed day) as Burton and Helena Bonham Carter as the actress ...

London, Jan 20: Paul Schrader, the director of Lindsay Lohan's new movie 'The Canyons', is rethinking the film's release after Sundance Film Festival bosses opted not to feature it during their 10-day independent cinema event.
Schrader insists it will be months before he'll let critics and film fans see the movie, which co-stars Lohan and adult actor James Deen, because he fears the project will be unfairly savaged because of the embattled 'Mean Girls' star's involvement, the Daily Express reported.

Los Angeles — Lindsay Lohan is expected to be arraigned Tuesday in a misdemeanor case over allegations she lied to police about a June traffic accident, though the actress is not required to attend the hearing.
Lohan is charged with reckless driving, lying to police about whether she was driving when her Porsche slammed into the back of a dump truck, and obstructing police from performing their duties. The accident occurred while Lohan and her assistant were on their way to shoot a beach scene for the television movie "Liz and Dick."
Lohan told police that she wasn't driving, but police suspect she was behind the wheel. The wreck sent her to the hospital briefly. The actress was on probation at the time for a 2011 necklace theft case and could be sentenced to 245 days in jail if a judge determines her conduct violated her probation. Kate Middleton will probably be a glamorous fashionplate for years to come, but you wouldn't know it from checking out her new official portrait. The Duchess of Cambridge looks slightly fatigued and sinister in the new painting, and while we won't hold that against Kate or her chicness, we will make fun of it. Here are 10 things this bizarre picture reminds us of.
1. A morph between Liz and Dick
2. A Kate Walsh screentest for the role of Mary Todd Lincoln
3. An abandoned Julia Roberts project called Mona Lisa Smize
4. A less-then-effervescent Valerie Bertinelli (which is basically impossible)
5. Masterpiece Theatre presents Tess of the D'Urbervilles... is Tired
6. Michelle Pfeiffer as Kathleen Turner as Lindsay Lohan
7. Exactly the face Lauren Bacall made while doing Fancy Feast voiceovers.
8. A still from an overly earnest Advil commercial
9. Kate Middleton doing her best impression of Eileen Rand from Smash
10. Sarah Ferguson, Attorney At Law

During the making of "The Canyons," director Paul Schrader (Auto Focus) invited NY Times reporter to monitor everything. Below is a summary of events that took place from the article that was named "Here Is What Happens When You Cast Lindsay Lohan in Your Movie." * "The Canyons" had a budget of only $250,000, with $150,000 raised on Kickstarter. * Lohan was paid $100 per day, plus a percentage of profits. Her contract included a four-way sex scene and that Schrader won't try to have sex with her. * Everyone begged Schrader not to hire Lohan, but the director believed she is a good actress. * Lohan told Schrader that she hated "Liz and Dick" and thought her director was a jerk, her co-stars were a nightmare and the crew were unfriendly. * Lohan was late for the first table-read. She missed a rehearsal, but promised to show up the next day. She didn't. Schrader decided to fire her.

Could 2013 be the year Lindsay Lohan steers clear of trouble with the law? Attorney Mark Jay Heller, the Liz and Dick actress's lawyer, predicts there will be no case against Lohan in connection with an alleged assault in a Manhattan nightclub in November, the Associated Press reports. Heller spoke to reporters after signing papers at the courthouse in New York on Monday during Lohan's scheduled misdemeanor assault hearing, which was actually postponed. The actress was not required to attend Monday's scheduled hearing. David Bookstaver, the Office of Court Administration spokesman, also confirmed that a criminal complaint had yet to be filed.

New York — Actress Lindsay Lohan is scheduled to appear in court to face assault charges in connection with a fight at a Manhattan nightclub.
She's charged with misdemeanor assault in the Nov. 29 incident at Club Avenue.
The "Mean Girls" and "Liz and Dick" star allegedly struck a woman in the face during an argument.
She's due in criminal court Monday where she'll learn whether prosecutors will pursue the case against her.
At the time of her arrest, her attorney, Mark Heller, said Lohan was "a victim of someone trying to capture their 15 minutes of fame."
In September, she was involved in an NYPD investigation after alleging a man assaulted her in a hotel. Charges against the man were later dropped.
