A new series of Dallas debuted on BBC1 directly opposite Des's show, with After the Fall: Ewing Rise (1987) attracting 11.3 million viewers. Des's audience saw a drop of over 1.5 million from the previous week, ranking at 48th place in the charts with 8.8 million tuning in.
Fortunately for Des the novelty of the US soap wore off quite quickly at this late stage, and by the third week of them being in direct competition with each other, Des was coming out on top.

It was reported in the Daily Mirror (2nd December 1987) that Elaine Paige had to change her costume for this episode due to issues with the lighting. Journalist Ken Irwin wrote:
"Singer Elaine Paige blushed with embarrassment when she was asked to change her dress ... because televiewers would see her knickers through it.
She was all set for a final run-through for DES O'CONNOR TONIGHT (ITV, 8pm) when producer Brian Penders called a halt. "Sorry," he said, "but you can't wear that dress." Studio lights were making the blue silk number almost transparent.
Said Brian: "The dress is fabulous, but too revealing." So Elaine changed into a sedate little black creation and went on with the show."
