the cliffhanger perfected
A_Different_Drummer31 March 2024
The term cliffhanger goes back to the origin of film in the 1920s. Even then, even in the silent era, creators understood the importance of hooking the viewer, making the viewer want to see more. The word is taken from the various endings used in those days -- the episode closes with the heroine tied to the RR tracks, with the heroine hanging from a cliff fighting to hang on, etc. A century later, creators still strive for this effect. For example an episode of the hit series Better Call Saul had a critical episode involving a marksman setting up a shot, which was a cliffhanger. That individual episode struck a chord and rated many dozens of member reviews. This one is even better. Perfection. Pulse pounding perfection. ((Designated "IMDb Top Reviewer."
