“Wolf Hall: The Mirror and the Light,” formats “Upside Down” and “Shaolin Heroes” and premium doc feature “Front Row,” offering a novel take on the Ukraine War, are potential highlights on Banijay’s powerhouse lineup at what promises to be one of the biggest presentations at next week’s London TV Screenings.
Mixing third-party pick-ups and Banijay productions, further scripted titles take in second seasons of two Banijay hits, the sumptuous and revisionist “Marie Antoinette,” and “Rogue Heroes,” a big WWII special ops adventure story which hit high ratings on BBC.
Unspooling over Wednesday Feb. 28 at BAFTA in three sessions, dedicated to factual, scripted and then formats, the Banijay@BAFTA lineup, as last year, the spread will give audiences a chance to catch up with high-concept adventure reality “The Summit” and “Deal or No Deal Island,” described as an “epic” recast of the format.

"This love is all-consuming… I pit people who don't know what it feels like to be this in love." Amazon has debuted the main official trailer for an indie romantic drama called My Policeman, based on the book of the same name by Bethan Roberts. It's premiering at the 2022 Toronto Film Festival soon before streaming on Amazon. The arrival of Patrick into Marion & Tom's home triggers the exploration of seismic events from 40 years previous. The film takes place in both the 1990s and the 1950s, following three individuals caught up in a love triangle. Described as "a visually transporting, heart-stopping portrait of three people caught up in the shifting tides of history, liberty, and forgiveness." It's about policeman Tom (Harry Styles), teacher Marion (Emma Corrin) + museum curator Patrick (David Dawson) embarking on an emotional journey in 1950s Britain. Many years later in the 1990s, Tom (Linus Roache), Marion (Gina McKee...

In Hawkins, Indiana, the ‘80s weren’t just a time for creepy mind-flaying monsters and nougat-eating creatures whose faces open up. It also had great hair, at least according to “Stranger Things.”
Series stylist Sarah Hindsgaul spoke to IndieWire in anticipation of the upcoming Season 3. Although the exact time period and which characters might be returning is under wraps, she did give a general idea of which direction hairstyles will be going, and that direction is curly.
“More perms,” Hindsgaul said. “We’re already planning how we’re gonna get all these backgrounds through the hair schools to perm hundreds of people.”

It’s Ok to hate Billy Mayfield, the bully who loudly and violently made a splash in Hawkins, Indiana, for the second season of “Stranger Things.” After all, he follows in the footsteps of some of the classic ‘80s bullies in films such as “Teen Wolf,” “Stand by Me,” “Pretty in Pink,” “The Lost Boys,” “Footloose,” and “Some Kind of Wonderful.”
In fact, breakout star Dacre Montgomery had to read Kiefer Sutherland’s scene from “Stand by Me” – the 1986 Stephen King film that’s set in the late ‘50s – to demonstrate that he was threatening enough for the role. Billy’s personality is so aggressive that he’s a danger to others around him. He even beats Steve (Joe Keery) to a bloody pulp during a confrontation at the Byers house.

It’s a good thing that Netflix already has the “Gilmore Girls” for all of those sweet Thanksgiving vibes, because the streaming giant is coming down from that Halloween sugar high in a bad way and following last month’s blockbuster slate with a relatively unremarkable roster of new additions. Proving that there isn’t much rhyme or reason behind when they’re able to upload new movies (it’s hard to curate around contract rights), the platform’s latest batch of titles is heavy on horror movies and light on seasonal fare.
Still, it’s not all bad news for those of you who might be looking for something to stream while you’re home for the holidays. Comfort watches like “Casper” and “Field of Dreams” are perfect things to put on when you’re immobilized by a stomach full of turkey, and you can even go for an...

1. “Godless” Season 1 (available November 22)
Why Should I Watch It? “Godless” reunites the duo behind “Out of Sight”: Scott Frank (who wrote the 1998 crime romance starring George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez) pens and directs the new seven-episode limited series, while Steven Soderbergh serves as an executive producer. Aside from these two acclaimed artists (Frank also wrote “Minority Report” and “Logan”), the Netflix original stars Emmy winner Jeff Daniels, Emmy winner Merritt Wever, Emmy nominee Michelle Dockery, and future winner of all the awards, Scoot McNairy. Throw in a classic Western story about a notorious criminal (Daniels) with a gang of outlaws who seek vengeance on a former member (Jack O’Connell) holed up in a mining town governed by women, and “Godless” has all the makings of a great genre entry with all the right modern touches.

In the first season of “Stranger Things,” the quartet of young men (“the party,” to use the parlance of Dungeons and Dragons) is clearly a direct homage to the show’s love of Stephen King (many of King’s narratives revolve around similar friend groups). But it’s the addition of Eleven to the group — the “mage,” as Mike likes to refer to her — that aligns the show with an even more common trope.

“House of Cards” was built on the backs of three men and carried — beyond its original designs — by one woman. What began as a collaboration between David Fincher and Beau Willimon, starring Kevin Spacey as the power-hungry politico Frank Underwood, soon became “The Robin Wright Show,” as the actress made the most of a character who had more qualms, better plans, and a stronger arc than her husband’s.
But even Claire can’t hold “House of Cards” together anymore. Though fans needn’t look beyond a disappointing and dull fifth season for reason to celebrate a fixed ending — Season 6 will be the last — there are reasons beyond a dip in quality to let this story die, and they begin with an actor on the outs, Kevin Spacey.

Production on the sixth season of Netflix’s drama series “House of Cards” has been suspended indefinitely, IndieWire has confirmed. As first reported by Deadline, the show’s cast and crew were told this morning of Netflix’s decision to stop filming. The suspension comes in the wake of actor Anthony Rapp’s allegation that Kevin Spacey made sexual advances towards him back in 1986, when Rapp was 14 years old and Spacey was 26. Netflix announced Monday, Oct. 30 that “House of Cards” Season 6 would be its last.

In an interview with Out Magazine, Oscar winner Emma Stone revealed that multiple male co-stars have taken lower salaries in order to match her own. “In my career so far, I’ve needed my male co-stars to take a pay cut so that I may have parity with them,” she said.
“And that’s something they do for me because they feel it’s what’s right and fair. That’s something that’s also not discussed, necessarily—that our getting equal pay is going to require people to selflessly say, “That’s what’s fair.” If my male co-star, who has a higher quote than me but believes we are equal, takes a pay cut so that I can match him, that changes my quote in the future and changes my life.”

Rachel Weisz is no stranger to filmmaker Yorgos Lanthimos’ unique charms and tastes, starring in his English-language debut “The Lobster” alongside a transformed Colin Farrell to deliver one of the decade’s most unexpected, weird, funny, and just plain lovely romances. Weisz is re-teaming with Lanthimos on his next offering, “The Favourite,” a historical feature that, on paper, sounds decidedly unlike the Greek filmmaker’s previous efforts, often referred to as part of the so-called Greek Weird Wave.
Officially described as a “bawdy, acerbic tale of royal intrigue, passion, envy, and betrayal,” Lanthimos’ latest film is set in 18th century England during the court of Queen Anne (played by Colman). Weisz plays Sarah Churchill, Duchess of Marlborough and confidante, advisor, best friend, and secret lover to the Queen. Their long-standing relationship is threatened when Sarah’s younger cousin Abigail (played by Emma Stone) comes to court, leading to a battle...

Allow RaeLynn to reintroduce herself.
It's been more than five years since the country darling first caught Blake Shelton's ear with her Pistol Annies-inspired blind audition on The Voice's second season. "I heard this voice start to sing, and it was familiar, but it was also like something I'd never heard before," Shelton tells Et. "Instantly, she looked like a star standing there -- an unexplainable thing that she has about her that separates her from everybody else in the world."
Then just 17 years old, competing for Team Blake, RaeLynn was ultimately sent home by her coach during the competition's quarterfinals. And that's when the real work began.
"I went straight back to Nashville, started writing Monday through Friday, then got my butt in a van," the 22-year-old tells Et. "I went to every country radio station in the U.S., got ready in gas stations, lived off Starbucks and Chick-fil-a -- that's how it...
