Korean content is having its moment, but Pyramid Game will be the only title from the country at next month’s Series Mania.
The series will have its European premiere in Series Mania’s ‘Special Screenings’ section. Pyramid Game is set to premiere on Tving in Korea on February 29 and later this year on Paramount+ globally.
The series depicts a brutal survival game at Baekyeon Girls High School, where students are divided into attackers, victims, and bystanders and gradually descend into the violence of survival. Pyramid Game is based on the Naver webtoon of the same name, which was created by Dalgonyak.
Last year, another Korean school-based thriller, Duty After School, was also invited to Series Mania.
Directed by Bak So-yeon, Pyramid Game will star Kim Ji-yeon, Jang Da-a, Ryu Da-in, Shin Seul-ki, Kang Na-eon, Jeong Ha-dam, and Yulli.A.

Hong Kong Filmart opened its 2023 edition Monday, looking to unearth the next big thing in Asian content, and South Korean entertainment giant Cj Enm believes it is on the money with Duty After School, a new series that pits high school students against invading monsters from outer space.
“This is the biggest show of 2023,” predicted Sebastian Kim, director of content sales and acquisitions and South Korean entertainment powerhouse Cj Enm.
A clip from Duty After School was the highlight of a Cj showreel Kim brought with him to Hong Kong. It revealed a schoolyard sci-fi show that looks to come cleverly crafted for a YA audience with big-screen production standards. Kim said it, and other Cj productions, were now benefitting directly from recent Korean content success stories.

The South Korean behemoth, which operates multiple studios and the TVing streaming platform, is touting at least six shows and formats.
