SPYxFAMILY Movie Magic!
LazerBlader23 December 2023
I went to the midnight premiere at the elegant TOHO Cinemas Hibiya - the biggest screen in Tokyo doing a midnight showing.

The movie was cute and light fun! Some great Anya faces. Loid's dulcet tones sounded great in a theater haha. And Yor's sweetness and Anya's adorable voice rang clear.

Captures most of the spirit of the show, but I wish there was more of the funny slice-of-life and school life stuff . But yeah, they were going for a big event story.

Visually about what I expected with a movie budget allowing for some slick action and bigger set pieces with really dynamic camera work!

Has an unexpected type of humor that included a surreal dream/vision sequence. Oh and there is a short after-credits scene.

A decent filler movie
mackarron28 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Saw the movie in Japanese with Spanish subtitles, if you're a fan or a newcomer to the franchise the movie does a good job of filling the dynamic of the show in the first minutes, it's great.

How's the pacing? Well all the action happens at the end, it's quite good but it doesn't make you feel like they're really in danger or the stakes are too high, movie plays it safe.

From start to middle you get some mundane things; introductions, buying groceries, normal family stuff.

Plotwise is where things fall apart; Anya is going to participate in a cooking contest and her spy dad hints that she should make a "MereMere" dessert, which is one of the judge's favorite desserts.

Winning this contest could bring her dad closer to infiltrate a reunion of influential people in the country, so they travel to the specific city where that dessert is made to learn how to cook it but Anya eats a chocolate containing a chip that other spies where trying to get and they kidnap her and try to make her poop to collect their data.

I say it's filler because at the end, none of this mattered at all - the parents rescue Anya and the contest is cancelled because the kitchen broke, so no cake is made, no stella is won and her dad is not closer to complete his mission.

Visually the movie is gorgeous and at certain scenes the animation style changes completely, one for a gag and the other for a fight and both look awesome

If you're a fan of the franchise you might love it, and it's awesome for newcomers and the entire family (well maybe not kids) but for me... it's meh.

It Meets Expectations
AnP_VelvetSkies23 April 2024
Spy x Family: Code White was the first anime movie I ever watched in theaters. Normally I'm not the biggest fan of anime show movies because they tend not to add to the series (they aren't cannon and can't expand on a story that well in such a short time), but this show utilizes the narrative of the past two series perfectly to execute a decent movie. Sure, some moments are a bit odd, especially the Anya's storyline with the bad guys, but for the most part, there were wholesome moments all around. It was faithful to everything else and had one or two stand-out moments. It's constructed in a way where even if you've never seen the series, you can still enjoy the movie, which I appreciate (even though I've watched both seasons - and so did my mom cuz she watched it too). The animation and action scenes are well choreographed. The movie felt more like an arc than anything else, but at the end of the day, I found it to be fine. It's not much greater than "fine", but it's certainly enough to get you by if you've been waiting for a season three. All characters not only showed up, but performed their roles well. 8/10 is very fair for the movie. While it was no-where near perfect and had a few weak points (regarding generic/plot convenient moments), the strong scenes where it counted the most were done right and with some pizazz. I will say it was nice to see Spy X Family on the big screen.

It takes a bit to get going but the full blown insanity eventually comes around.
grantlauzon22 April 2024
As a fan of the show I was curious how this would turn out. It starts off rather slow with an emphasis on the home and school life. The comedy, action, and plot don't really kick in until the end of act 2.

This might be my favorite portrayal of Anya in anything Spy X Family. Her expressions are very well drawn.

It has basically every character in some form and they play a slightly exaggerated version of there role from the show (for better or worse in the case of agent Nightfall).

This movie gets silly... maybe too silly. If you've watched the show or have watched any kind of anime (Nightfall's reactions) then... well even then there are parts that might be too silly for you. There's your regular anime extreme over acting, but there's a psychedelic scene that... Well it would be spoilers.

If you like the show I'd recommend it. If you haven't seen the show... Get ready for things to get out of hand very quickly.

Spy x Family Code: White
CinemaSerf28 April 2024
"Loid" is a top secret operative working on "Operation Strix" - and that requires him to establish the credentials offered by a fake family. To that end he is married to the nimble "Yor" and they both bring up their telepathic daughter "Anya" and mind their dog "Bond". So far, it's a bit like "Mr & Mrs Smith" as neither parent knows of the perilous activities of the other. Now her school principal likes a pudding, and so when a school competition encouraging pupils to cook something for him is announced, the family decide to travel to a small town where "meremere" is prepared (looks like a sort of meringue). Along the way, the curious "Anya" discovers a locked casket on a train which she easily opens to discover it contains a chocolate sweet. Yep, you've guessed - but wait! This delicacy turns out to contain a secret microfilm that is being sought by folks who would use it to undermine the peace between east and west and start a war. Now the story rather turns into "Sky Captain" (2004) and their search for the ingredients of their cake - and his secret mission - takes them into the skies and into a series of combative escapades that sees bullets, bombs and even experimental guided missiles flying about all over the place. I'd never heard of the original television series and was a little reluctant to see this in a cinema as so often these films just build on characters about whom I know little. That's not the case here. This is a solid stand-alone story that doesn't require prior knowledge of anyone to get into it, and that serves it well. The animation is quickly paced and each character (even the dog) has a role to play as the adventure hots up. The plot is not exactly original, no, but there's some fun to be had as these characters deliver an adventure that avoids repetitive combat scenes and after a slow start is well worth a cinema outing.

Fantastic

I had never seen spy x family so I didn't know what to expect, but I was pleasantly surprised I've added a new anime to my watch list. The story was great the characters was also fantastic I know a lot of people say it's not their cup of tea and it's not but for someone who loves anime it's really good usually it's not my cup of tea which I haven't heard of it until I've watched the movie this is coming from someone who's favorite anime is dragon Ball z and mobile suit Gundam and yu yu Hakusho this one was really good and I have to check out more about it. I recommend to people who love anime only people who will say this movie is not good or people who don't watch anime.

Beautiful animation but average plot
ladyliliroche28 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I'm not expecting much for an anime movie but I just wish they push the plot a little bit more. The pacing could also be better, and for a children anime movie (though 13+ rating), the movie felt quite long. Even I felt a bit bored in the middle of the movie.

So like...:

1. Pacing could definitely be better. There was a scene where they went to the market to buy some stuffs then the scene after that Anya discovered that there is a christmas market next to it and became very amazed by the lights... even though the current market and the christmas market dont look that much different.

It just added unnecessary runtime. Could be better if Anya was already in awe when they arrived at the market and Loid had to tell her to calm down and endrd up buying things by himself, which pisses Anya off because it supposed to be a family holiday.

2. The action scenes were all stuck towards the end. I would like it to be spread a little bit more because the middle scene was kinda a drag. I love slice of life moments but the slice of life moments were just rehashing of old stuffs. Yor thinking that Loid cheated on her. Anya thinking the family will break off. Same things we have seen in the anime and manga.

3. If they are doing it mission impossible style, I would love more look on the gorgeous location and more look at the culture. The chef didnt even make an appearance towards the end.

Like in the end, it is just another typical anime movie. It doesnt have ghibli like emotional depth or anything new. Like we all knows operation strix will not end because the manga still continued, same with the anime.

But the animation is gorgeous and very high quality. The unko scene was beautifully animated and its a pleasure to watch. Anya's thousand of expression also stood out.

Its not a bad watch but just a one time watch for me.

Fun movie for fans of the show
spiffysmurf20 April 2024
My kids (and my husband and me) love this show! My family went to see the movie today and it did not dissapoint. The quirky humor was throughout the movie and we laughed all of the way through. They didn't spend a lot of time explaining the backstory of the characters, which we appreciated since we have already watched the TV show. Someone who hasn't watched the show might be a little confused at the improbability of people having these skills and coming together as a family. However those who are fans of the show will enjoy the goofy humor and fun that is typically found in the episodes. I would recomend to fans of the show and if you haven't seen the show, I would recomend you check it out.

If Mr & Mrs Smith Had a Daughter
stevendbeard16 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I saw Spy x Family Code: White, starring the voices of Takuya Eguchi-Collar x Malice Movie: Deep Cover, Ultra Man_tv; Saori Hayami-My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU_tv, 86_tv; Atsumi Tanezaki-Unnamed Memory_tv, Dr. Stone_tv and Banjo Ginga-Food Wars: Shokugeki no Soma_tv, Mobile Suit Gundam: The Origin V_Clash at Loum.

This is a Japanese anime movie-with sub_titles-that is based on a Spy Family tv series. Takuya & Saori are a married couple with a 5 year old daughter, Atsumi. They are a family with secrets; Takuya & Saori are spies and Atsumi has psychic powers but no one knows each others secrets, except for Atsumi of course-she is psychic, remember? There is a cooking competition at Atsumi's school and the whole family decides to go on a trip to get the ingredients for a fancy dessert so that Atsumi can win her contest. While on the scavenger hunt for ingredients, they get involved in a mission to find a micro chip that could lead to a war between the East & the West, that is, if they bad guys get the chip first. Banjo is the main villain wanting to start the war. Lots of exciting fights, a little humor and adventures ensue as Takuya & Saori work separately to accomplish their mission. There is a scene after the end credits. The movie sort of reminded me of if Mr & Mrs Smith had a daughter.

It's rated PG-13 for violence, language and smoking and has a running time of 1 hour & 50 minutes.

I'm not a big anime fan but if you are, it would be a good one to stream.

Sweet and entertaining
AgentPhoenixxx3 May 2024
Spy x Family Code: White, continues the over the top chaos that we see in the show. The plot is inconsequential, you don't need to see the movie to continue watching the show and the movie will catch you up on the events you've missed.

The animation is beautiful, with tons of color and lighting effects. The story is constantly entertaining and hilarious. The main characters have tons of life thanks to their talented voice actors. Pacing is quick, but it doesn't mind slowing down when it needs to give a character arc extra focus.

Wether you are new to the series or a longtime fan, you'll find something to love in this family dynamic.

Wasn't the target audience
AfricanBro16 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I walked out the Monday mystery movie so my thoughts are based on only a fraction of the film. It simply wasn't my cup of tea, saw about 15 minutes of it before calling it quits. There were just too many silly/illogical moments for my taste. While I'm usually fine with a bit of silliness if it's entertaining, it should atleast be fun or funny. From the male spy disguising himself as a girl to the "Mr. And Mrs. Smith" vibes and the bizarre power dynamics within each family member plus the dog...the final straw came during a scene where two spies spoke "in code" and miraculously understood each other; all this surging the first 10 minutes. A lot of people walked out, mostly after like 2 min, one old lady got up and others followed.

I rarely walk out of movies myself and initially thought I could thug it out. If it was shorter I would've But I quickly realized I couldn't fathom enduring nearly two hours of this lol. Plus I have one episode of Fallout left, stopped the binge to go watch this. When I walked out some people who walked out earlier were laughing when even more people walk out. Mostly talking about how it was too late to go watch Spider-Man or the absence of eden. It's frustrating when the Monday mystery movie overlaps with other enticing options, like next week when it coincides with the early access premiere of Zendaya's "Challengers." Why??

Spy x Family = Average Family Film
inazumaarion3 May 2024
Being a fan of the show, I was eager to see the cinematic release of Spy x Family's first major film. The anime had a really nice blend of undercover action and clever slapstick that entertained both children and adults, and I was hoping that it would be further elevated in movie form. And unfortunately, that's not what I got here. While I had some good laughs here and there, I felt a bit underwhelmed by the story.

At first it starts out pretty funny, with the Forgers going on a winter vacation in order to gather info for a school project. The animation is really expressive, the winter festival setting is relaxing, and there's plenty of great jokes. I think it's really interesting how similar the creator Tatsuya Endo is Twilight. At first, he didn't really like the characters he made, but overtime he started to form a connection with them. Similar to how the lonesome spy formed a connection with Yor and Anya. Battling his depression in a sense.

It's the film's greatest strength and weakness. Because while it is a fascinating concept, it does make me a little sad that his passion project has yet to reach the big screen. Which is probably why the story feels a bit too basic. I very much doubt he was thrilled to work on this project.

While the slapstick feels fresh, the narratively weak plot hurts the film a lot. With plenty of convenient encounters and plot holes. This is just another episode about stopping a villain from starting a war, only with better animation. Kids won't mind it too much, but adults may be a bit confused. How did Anya pay for that item? Who cares, she's getting kidnapped. And man, the way they tied up Anya in the third act made me really uncomfortable. Not that the gross out jokes were helping my mood.

While I liked most of the jokes in this movie, the jokes involving Anya trying to avoid using the bathroom really stressed me out. They drag on for way too long. And in theater form, where the bathrooms are faraway from the screen, and people are hoping to just wait till the movie ends, it's pretty painful to watch. I came here for some laughs and exhilarating action, can we just stop whatever this is?

And while the fight scenes in the climax are fast paced and really fun, I won't give too much away, I did wish the main villain had more depth than just being an evil general. The animation looks nice, but this feels like a film I would put on during hotel trips with all the weak set ups. I don't know if this film will inspire any kids, but for a family flick, it's best to watch at home, especially with a remote and a close bathroom. Personally I like the show a bit more, but if you're a fan of the anime, I doubt it would leave a negative impact on you. If you don't mind gross out humor or convenient plot points, you'll enjoy this fine.

I cant believe I paid for this.
gabrielle-2790727 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I wanted to enjoy this movie, and considering the positive reviews i was excited. The fact that there was barely any background music and mildly boring conflicts at the beginning was already a red flag, but I was willing to look past it- openings can be hard. However as the movie continued, I noticed the conflict building up was extremely uninteresting, and Yor's worries about being a bad wife completely flanderized her character. Did the writers lose the ability to write women? I've already had issues with Fiona- but she felt useless in this movie as well, and was just there to prop up Loid's character. Outside of the issues with the adult characters, what they did with Anya was honestly disgusting. Whoever wrote an entire plotline relying on whether or not a four year old child had to gonto the bathroom NEEDS to be investigated. The segment went on for way too long, and was not necessary- it felt like I needed to get my own hard drive checked for just witnessing it. Humor like this can work for children, but this movie contains blood and swearing- so who is the target audience here?? It felt like a cheap copout to avoid making the braindead writers use an ounce of creativity in favor of an awful bit. I understand the movie is supposed to be lighthearted and fun, but it didn't achieve anything. Overall, it was a boring and blatantly perverted movie.

Some tidbits
grisingerm28 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Other reviewers have covered the main story so I'll add a bit about "Frigis" which might be informative to younger viewers and amusing to others. As this involves the plot, I've marked it as 'spoilers.'

The whole Spy x Family series revolves around an overblown, larger-than-life setting of Cold War-era espionage movies and TV shows, and frequently uses tropes, tips of the hat, and wholesale appropriation of many of those. I found myself mentally humming the "Get Smart" theme when Loid goes to visit Handler, for instance.

So, when the family needs to travel to "Frigis" to get the means to the coveted Stella, we're treated to a mish-mash of Scandinavian themes. Is it Sweden, or Norway? Not sure, but there are lingonberries, so visitors of a certain furniture store might be forgiven for thinking Sweden.

Similarly, when the Forgers visit, there's a beautiful airplane from the war on display. Not just some random airplane drawn here, although few would mind in this wild show with prescient dogs and assassin wives. No, a careful recreation of the Dehavilland Mosquito, fighter-bomber variant, complete with the four ports (not used) for 20mm cannon and the bomb bay which Yur uses to join the climactic adventure. And, yes, between Norway and Sweden a bit short of 100 Mosquitoes did in fact serve in WW2.

This sort of careful observance of Cold War historicity, and the espionage-movie themes, in both the series and the movies, not just there but in firearms, dress, and other sort of backdrop/setting items, adds to the joy of the family antics and the over-the-top anime adventures.

Should dubbed as dark satire comedy, not just comedy
nurhandanish-060934 March 2024
Just went to the movie yesterday in TGV 1 Utama (I am from Malaysia, do come to beautiful Malaysia) and it was lot of laugh in the hall. I can't resist that crazy honestly.

The movie was full of fun as expected from an original story, not related to manga. Anya being Anya and everyone being everyone except it's more satire and dark comedy.

What I don't like is there was an offensive part which I don't think that was necessary for joke, kids could have follow that being rude to public. Please fix the comedy and be example to the world.

Nothing to say except it a HUGE worth if you are fan of this franchise or if you are bored of find some movies. Defined that full price.

Very entertaing and funny even if you've not finished the show
daveplumbzero30 April 2024
Not seen the TV show, or only seen the first season? Doesn't matter, the movie explains the main characters, their skills and secrets within a fake family, all within the space of 5-10 mins. This is an extended episode which starts out as another attempt to aid Anya (the telepathic adopted daughter) in her academics so loid (the spy working to keep pace between 2 nations) can get close to his target, leads to a winter wonderland ingredient hunt, a potential break in his fake relationship with yor (the assassin) and Anya getting caught up a major threat to peace. The humour is mad as ever, mostly coming from the the characters doing what they do whilst trying to not worry the others as to who they really are

The animation is more detailed for plenty of moments, and there's large chunks of action at the end which even gives yor a chance to shine.

If you've never seen spy family before, don't take it seriously, the amount of things that yor should question about loid is unreal, and yet she doesn't. There was one moment of comedy that was going on for so long about a cruise subject that it became cringe..... Then it went so surreal it became brilliantly hilarious. I enjoyed this film as an adult, it's mostly kid friendly though there is one scene with animated blood, and one scene of particularly dark peril towards a child.

Just as Fun and Loving as the Excellent Show
webslinger-0028029 April 2024
I came into it really excited for the film, and was completely satisfied with it from start to finish. The action was phenomenal with the heighten budget, and the humor and new characters were top notch in introductions and delivery. The music was absolutely beautiful and amazing to hear on the big screen with characters so lovable I couldn't help but smile at every turn, especially when you wouldn't expect it. Aside from a very funny but overextended poop joke, this fits perfectly into the franchise as one that will be loved by fans and anime-goers alike. Definitely recommend it, especially at the theater.

Bizarre Japanese humour
andrewpetrouap22 April 2024
Get ready for that strange100% incomprehensible but endearing Japanese humour. That same feeling of incomprehensibility permeates the serious scenes too, where things happen that are so far removed from Western sensibilities that the viewer does rapid fire "double takes" while uttering "huh?!?Nothing quite makes sense to normal Western sequential logic.

This constant sensation of sudden u-turns in logic reaches an astounding fantasia-like crescendo where the fate of the world balances on a tiny kid needing to have a poop while hallucinating about an old man poop God with a butt load literally starting to exit his long johns! I forgave the film it's failings at that point for its sheer audacity in totally dispensing with any semblance of Western thought patterns.

The audience is catapulted into the Japanese mindset throughout the film like Alice down the rabbit hole where nothing quite makes sense anymore.

It was premier in Christmas but on April

Warning: Spoilers
SpyxFamily is one those rare anime that make it unique n fun. From undercovering info job Lloyd a k a Twilight, assassin eyes wearing black dress for the kill Yor a k a Thorn Queen, forgot the mishiei Tp(telepathic) Annya with futuristic see all dog Bond.

Forming the family with secrets the Forgers, with two seasons hiding bringing em there full length movie, that ye need be undercover to see it, with out killing nobody.

The story was entertaining on how the Forgers go to trip just to taste a cake, for the principal of Annya, only to be involve in conspiracy of a general who wanna stard war very casual but at same time we explore the humor that the Forgers have.

From Lloyd trying to get the recipe for cake in the market, to Yor doing her tsundere act suspecting there's infidelity involved that she got drunk to ve the answer, finally Annya always involving in some kind mischief to swallow a important tape that could star unexpected.

The characters re riot been themselves but for me that always the star is little I can read yer mind Annya is her joy been involved in the mission of her parents n expression especially when is bathroom break were her shine.

Ok I m of picture here I really love the anime, n the characters that making their first motion picture was awesome.

The animation was standard trying new styles like Lloid fighting the general with yellow, red, blue tones giving that wild 60's looks, Yor doing her parkour moves fighting with cyborg, just defeating with chopstick, n well there's Annya stealing the movie with not wanting to go restroom. Did forgot mentioning the toilet dream sequences since when studio Ghibli was involved The setting was well built for a 60's cold war vibe to it, even giving more action when come to the style of the warplip n the action that follows.

The soundtrack give it the suspense that any spy films has, but is more xited when we see the Thorn Queen doing her thing.

So conclude the most fun have watching the Forgers doing what they do best just been secretly family with 90's family sitcom way, haven't seen the second season but something tells me is way funnier, enjoy the spectacle that film brings to OtakuHeads. Why say that there girls cosplaying Annya, so Tom Cruise better get adopted family.

Don't need to watch the series to enjoy this
RegalsReelView9 May 2024
Agent Loid created a fake family to accomplish his mission, but little did he know that each family member had a secret. His fake wife, Yor, was an international assassin, their adopted daughter, Anya, was a telepath, and their family pet, Bond, could predict the future. Anya was the key to his mission, and she now had to win a school cooking competition, so the family vacationed to find the perfect dessert. While enjoying their time together, they unknowingly stumble into a military operation. They must resolve the situation while maintaining their secrets.

This is an anime movie that extends a running series. Watching the series before this movie will help clarify what is happening, but it is unnecessary. The movie does a great job quickly recapping the essential elements of the series and focusing on the story. The movie is funny, entertaining, and a bit on the mature side. If you are a fan of the series or just want to watch an anime movie, this is entertaining.

🔎On my list as One of the Best Films of 2024💫
Just Got out of a 4DX Screening of Spy x Family Code: White

What I loved about the Film -

  • 🔥A Slow Burn into an absolute Blitzkrieg of a 3rd Act. SEE THIS IS 4DX GUYS!

  • 🔥⚡Again, on the slow burn, it just works, it keeps you engaged throughout with this quest to find ingredients for this cake for Anyas' Project, and then, because it's "slowly burning"...........it THEN hits you⚡, Which is even more effective because of that.

  • The "Family" Dynamic they have with eachother is so good, they're distant yet so close to eachother. This is Excellent Writing 👌

  • Anya and the Toilet World Segment was such an experience 🌈 🚽

  • 👨‍👩‍👧The Characters were so good, especially Snidel, he added so much to the film in my opinion, Loid was Solid, Yor is excellent and Type F literally lit the cinema on fire. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE!

Overall, one of the Best Films Of 2024.

Can't believe I wasted an afternoon watching this disgusting movie
saureko27 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I came into the movie as a diehard fan of the series. I had seen every episode I could get my hands on, so it just made sense to go watch the movie. It started off fine with decent enough humor, but it progressively got duller and harder to sit through.

Several jokes in the film seemed too unbelievable such as the scene in the cafe fighting over the dessert with a military general. The idea of it just felt too immersion-breaking and out of place.

I was willing to sit out the rest of the movie as I didn't mind the big action scenes, but that changed after the "poop-plot" started. The idea of a 4 year old girl trying to hold in her poop for a long time is bizarre and honestly disgusting. Seeing her writhe around in pain from holding in her poop while groaning definitely feels illegal and completely perverted. This also felt wildly out of place in the movie after having seen several scenes of violence and blood.

I felt absolutely disturbed and awful watching this, and I feel like someone needs to look into the writers of this movie.

Too many coincidences, but still a lot of fun.
webermarius26 April 2024
A good movie, however, there were a few too many coincidences, which can throw one off track now and then. All in all, though, very beautiful, sometimes touching, and often extraordinarily funny.

It is sad and beautiful to watch them desperately fight to keep living this lie or to bring it into reality.

I would watch more movies like this, however, I hope that if they make more, they rely less on coincidences and more on the actions of the characters.

Anya is truly adorable and super funny in this movie. However, the story around Yor and Loid was a bit weak and could have used more depth. Visually, it was a very beautiful film with charming animation.

Don't forget to watch the little bonus scene after the credits. :)
