Revered Indian actor Waheeda Rehman has been accorded the Dadasaheb Phalke award, India’s highest film honor.
The award is given for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema and is named after Phalke, director of “Raja Harischandra” (1913), India’s first full-length feature, who is considered the father of Indian cinema.
Rehman, the 85-year-old grande dame of Indian cinema has worked with most of the legendary filmmakers of her country during her career and the roles she chose were in films that are considered classics in the annals of Indian cinema. India’s Kamal Haasan is a true multi-hyphenate. Beginning as a child actor in 1960, he is one of the country’s most consummate actors with films like “Pathinaru Vayathinile” (1977) “Moondram Pirai” (1982) “Nayakan” (1987), “Thevar Magan” (1992) and “Vishwaroopam” (2013) behind him.
He also produces via his Raajkamal Films International (Rkfi), writes, directs, and runs the Makkal Needhi Maiam political party.
The upcoming “Vikram,” directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj (“Master”) and costarring Fahadh Fasil (“Malik”) Vijay Sethupathi (“Kadaisi Vivasayi”), will be Haasan’s first release since 2018’s “Vishwaroopam 2.” It is produced by Rkfi.
Haasan was at the Cannes Market to launch NFTs based on “Vikram” from Fantico, a digital licensed platform of Singapore’s Vistas Media Capital.
What is “Vikram” about? And is the title an homage to Rkfi’s 1986 film Vikram?
This is not a sequel, but, yes, it’s [about] a man who’s very similar. The film starts differently, its about reminiscing the man and his deeds.

Film CommentaryThe whole premise of the ‘Vishwaroopam’ films is rather troubling – a privileged Hindu has produced and directed a film where he plays a Good Muslim disguised as a privileged Hindu.Sowmya RajendranIt's not unusual for films with a patriotic theme to release around Independence Day. This August, we had the Hindi film Mulk hitting the screens on the 3rd and Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam 2, releasing on the 10th. Both of them, interestingly, are about terrorism and Islam. While Mulk bravely takes on Islamophobia, Vishwaroopam 2 is the sequel to a film that saw protests for its anti-Muslim politics, although the hero (Kamal Haasan) plays a Muslim man. The first film, Vishwaroopam, was supposed to release for Republic Day in 2013, but because of the protests (which Kamal firmly believes were politically motivated), it hit the screens only outside Tamil Nadu. It was February 7 by the time the film was...

Vishwaroopam 2
Starring: Kamal Haasan, Waheeda Rehman, Shekhar Kapoor, Anand Mahadevan, Pooja Kumar, Andrea Jermiah
Directed by Kamal Haasan
Rating: *** ½ (3 a half stars)
The best thing about this lengthy lumbering but never uninteresting odeto anti-terrorism is the lovely wizened Waheeda Rehman. But we have to wait till after interval point for her to show up.
The veteran actress is cast as the protagonist’s mother who suffers a memory loss and can only remember her son as a dancer not a nationalist fighter. If you’ve seen the first Vishwaroopam film 5 years ago you’d remember what the lady has forgotten. Kamal Haasan Kathak recital in the film resonated rather quaintly with all the macho desh bhakti/jihadi stuff as he had infiltrated into a Jihadi camp as an Islamic insurgent.

KollywoodThe film is going to be her second release of the year.Digital NativeNayanthara, whose films Aramm, Dora, and Velaikkaran were well received last year, is gearing up for the release of upcoming Tamil thriller Kolamavu Kokila a.k.a Co Co. Directed by debutant Nelson Dilip Kumar, the film is going to be her second release of the year. In the film, she plays a simple girl who, when pushed into an unexpected situation, has to fight for her own for survival. On Thursday, the makers via announced a poster that the film will hit the screens on August 10 worldwide. This means that Nayanthara and Kamal Haasan, whose Vishwaroopam 2 is also confirmed to release on the same date, will lock horns at the box-office. The film is rumoured to be inspired from the popular American show Breaking Bad. Apparently, Kolamavu is the colloquial word used in the film for cocaine. It’s also evident from the title poster of the film that the story does deal about drugs. Clarifying these reports, Nelson said in an interview to Hindustan Times that his film is his own work of fiction. “It’s a story about an ordinary girl in the most unexpected situation and how she fights her way out of it. We can’t make anything close to Breaking Bad because it’s really wild and we’re not prepared for such things.” The film also stars Saranya Ponvannan and Yogi Babu in important roles. The film has music by Anirudh Ravichander and recently there were reports that the young composer has played a cameo in the film. However, director Nelson subsequently quashed these reports in a few interviews. He went on to add that Anirudh’s music is the soul of the film. “As soon as Anirudh heard the story, he was excited to commence work. He’s taken very special care and worked on the film because he really liked the story,” he said. (Content provided by Digital Native)...

EntertainmentThe song also features Waheeda Rahman.Tnm StaffThe lyric video of the first single from Vishwaroopam II released on Friday. The song titled Naannaagiya Nadhimoolamae, is sung by Kamal Haasan, Kaushiki Chakraborty, Master Karthik and Suresh Iyer. Kamal Haasan has written the lyrics, while Ghibran has scored the music for the film. From the trailer of Vishwaroopam II, that released on June 11, the film seems to be a high octane action thriller that follows the story of Raw agent Wisam Ahmed Kashmiri, played by Kamal Haasan, who’s on a mission to take on a notorious terrorist organisation. Vishwaroopam II will hit the screens on August 10, nearly 5 years after the release of Vishwaroopam I. With faint similarities to Unnai Kannadhu Njaan from the first film, Naannaagiya Nadhimmlamae portrays the warmth of a mother-son relationship. The song is a charming composition by Ghibran and Kamal Haasan that explores the relationship between a mother and a son from the time of birth. Kaushiki Chakraborty’s melodious voice renders the mother’s response to Kamal Haasan’s verse. The song has Waheeda Rahman gracing the silver screen after a long gap. Reports have it that the legendary actor will be seen playing the role of a dancer in the movie while the song shows Waheeda being moved around in a wheelchair.
