Fellow Lfo member Brad Fischetti reflected on Gillis’ life in an Instagram post. “My relationship with Brian was complex. It contained moments of great tribulation but also of great joy… And it’s those positive aspects of our relationship that I will lean on now and forever.”
Gillis established the band with the late Rich Cronin in 1995. The group had early success with covers of the Bee Gees’ “If I Can’t Have You” and New Kids on the Block’s “Step by Step.”
