- It's now 12 hours to Ray Seward's execution and Linden is still trying to get a stay of execution for him. Seward identifies his wife's ring from among the trophies found in Joe Mills' storage locker but it is insufficient to convince the Attorney General. Adrian is also at the prison having been promised the opportunity to see his father. He has information for Linden as well but Seward can't shed any light on who might have killed his wife.—garykmcd

Linden and Ray have a dramatic conversation about the killing of Adrian's mother . 16 hrs are on the clock for rays sentence and Linden is trying to get A "Stay of Execution" from the the State attorney general. Holder faces a downward slope in the aftermath of Bullet. Holder confronts Linden about her flaws. Adrian finally comes to the prison to confront his father and time is running out.—mpboylanjr
- Open with the death row team practicing for Seward's hanging.
Linden arrives at the prison with the rings. She meets with Seward, who is upset she waited until 11 hours before his death to get in touch. He tells her one of the rings is his wife's wedding band and says there is a scratch on the inside. She confirms and leaves to call the attorney general. She needs the file and calls Holder to bring it by. If Linden leaves the prison she won't be able to return.
While Seward eats, Becker tells him about a cemetery outside filled with unmarked headstones. Becker places Henderson on deathwatch.
Adrian and his foster mother arrive at the prison.
Linden goes back to speak with Seward. The attorney general needs corroborating evidence the ring belonged to Seward's wife in order to get a stay. She tells him Adrian has arrived and they talk about both of their sons. Seward isn't sure about seeing Adrian. Becker pulls him out of the meeting with Linden without explanation. But Linden knows enough about state mandates to convince Becker he's in the wrong. Seward is returned and tells Linden that he was weighed again. He's concerned that if they get his weight wrong his neck won't break and he'll suffocate. That takes approximately six minutes. Seward has no more information about the ring but asks Linden to stay so he isn't returned to his cell. Seward confesses that he did beat his wife, occasionally in front of his son.
Holder arrives at the prison with the file. He's been drinking since the previous day and is still hammered.
Holder talks to Adrian while having a smoke.
Linden has a picture of Seward's wife that appears to show her wearing the ring. The plan is to send the picture to the attorney general.
Adrian tells Linden that Holder left to get beer. He asks to see Seward and wonders if he's waiting because of the lie he told her about seeing Mills. He then says that his father was there the night of his mother's death.
Holder returns to the prison with his beers. He walks past the cemetery and becomes emotional, tossing beers at the headstones.
Linden confronts Seward about having been there that night. She's pissed that he lied and thinks he's played her. She wants to know why he was there. He doesn't give her a straight answer and she leaves.
Outside Linden runs into Holder and tells him about Seward's lie. Holder reminds her of the ring and points out there are a number of reasons Seward might have been there. Holder doesn't let her walk away. He says this is Linden's pattern, always walking away. Linden gets a call from the attorney general. Seward has not been granted a stay.
Linden tells Seward his stay was not granted. She again asks why he was in the apartment the night his wife was killed. She asks why he won't help her if, in fact, he didn't kill her. He says he returned to get Adrian that night and found his wife dead. Linden convinces him he needs to visit with his son. Seward finally agrees.
On the way to see his father Adrian stops in the bathroom to clean his shoes. Holder follows him and helps the boy fix his hair.
Linden and Seward sit in the room waiting for Adrian. He seems excited for the meeting. Becker walks in and says that it is too late and takes Seward away. Seward screams that he'll kill the guards. Adrian hears everything. Linden yells to Seward to remember the trees.
Outside Holder tells Linden "it's over."
Seward is prepped for the execution. As he's taken down a hallway he looks out the window at the trees. Linden is standing there with Adrian, who waves at his father. The execution begins. Linden is in the audience. Becker chokes and is unable to place the hood over Seward's head. Henderson has to take over. Seward's sentence is read and at 6 o'clock he's dropped through the trapdoor. But Seward's neck does not break. The episode ends with him swinging on the rope and gasping for air.
