Poor man - or MIGRANT - 's Ken Loach
searchanddestroy-116 December 2023
It is surprising that such a plot, scheme, has not been told before, or if there is, I missed it. Anyway since two decades now, there are many films and TV movies speaking of the migrants problem, here and in England too. This one, involving a French unemployed lone mother trying to make it meeting a migrant, is a deep but a bit ankward social movie speaking of today's issues: unemployment, joblessness and migrants smuggling. The film maker Thierry Binisti is a veteran of TV dramas, he knows what he talks about, but he is not Ken Loach either. It would have been a terrific plot for the British director. This French drama is one of the very few that this director makes for the big screen. Weird.
