An okayish first-attempt that needed a better, stronger finale. [+47%]

Not rating this as writer-director Vinil's my second cousin. I think the film contains some good ideas and the horror facade to the story in the first half was interesting. The portrayal of the titular character (revealed in a second-half twist) is solid, but the writing renders them two-dimensional. The execution of chase sequences gets repetitive after a point, and this largely lessens the impact of the climax. Owing to the locales, there's a slightly higher chance this connects better with folks who have been to the suburban side of Chennai. All things considered, it's definitely a not-bad debut.

Disappointing

The movie started off with a pretty thrilling intro scene, but that's all I can compliment. The actors in this film, while not the best, are decent actors, but even they couldn't save the movie with its awful writing.

The pacing was all over the place, with a heavy reliance on montages to make up for the lack of any background given to the characters. Which in turn, makes sympathizing with our protagonists hard to do.

The police in this movie were cardboard cutouts, only there to make the protagonist seem more smarter and the antagonist, sympathetic. The soundtrack often kicked up randomly in the background and was misplaced in certain scenes.

The action choreography was lacking, again most probably due to pacing, and didn't seem grounded in reality, with one scene having a policeman being knocked out with some kind of metal jug and not returning for several scenes, while the antagonist gets smacked across the face with a shovel but just falls to the ground.

At the end of it I felt disappointed. While I got hooked in by the promising start, the movie only got worse as its run-time went on. For a debut film for the director, its not the worst I've seen but that doesn't change my thoughts on its rating.

A thrilling ride

Rajni, directed by Vinil Scariah Varghese is a new addition to the recent thriller movies coming out of Malayalam film industry and I must say, it didn't disappoint

It is a really fast paced thriller movie which without beating around the bush directly jumps into the story. The lack of character potrayal by a few characters are compensated by the making of the film. The journey through which the film takes us is quite gripping as well as exciting throughout.

The background music and cinematography has played a huge role in enhancing the movie watching experience. So overall I would recommend this movie to anyone who loves to watch thriller films. Kudos to the entire team.

A decent thriller!

Its a decent murder mystery thriller.

An intriguing and edge of the seat experience. Good story and screen play. A different plot. Revealation of the antagonist is suspenseful. Concluded in a good manner.

Actors were good. The antagonist is great.

Most of the parts are made in tamil since the story moves in Chennai.

Music worked well. Cinematography is nice and together it added to the elevation of scenes.

The film is a great attempt for a debutant director. It is not at all boring if you are a fan of thrillers. A good watch on ott. The film is neatly paced and overall gives a perfect thriller.
