In the Lynwood Park area of Atlanta, Detective Will Trent investigates a car bombing involving the victim Keith Wakefield and a connection to his neighbor, Arthur. Arthur, fearing for his son in prison, discloses that he's been paying protection money to unknown assailants. This leads Will to uncover a prison gang using a specific type of prison slang. Faith Mitchell is entangled in a romantic encounter with reporter Luke Sullivan. Their relationship takes a turn as Faith discovers Luke's involvement with other women through social media. Luke reveals to Faith some information that may tie the recent car bombings to an Eastern European gang. As the investigation unfolds, another bomb threat emerges in an impound lot. Will, along with the help of Cricket Dawson, successfully removes the bomb but not in time to prevent it going off, tragically killing Cricket. Michael Ormewood suspects his wife, Gina, of having an affair with Harris, the father of a child named Maisy. To investigate his suspicions, Michael does some detective work, such as checking the thermostat report and placing a tracker on his wife's car. The discovery that the air conditioner is increased every Tuesday and Thursday at 2:00 pm heightens his concerns. But then he discovers his son has been cutting class every Tuesday and Thursday to sneak home to play video games, providing a plausible explanation of the thermostat readings that clears Gina. Michael admits his suspicions to Gina, who reacts by rushing out, saying we'll talk about this tonight. Scarred but determined to face his unresolved past, he goes to prison to visit serial killer James Ulster, who Will believes may be his father.
