This is why it took so long!
Eb044 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Everything about this episode is so so good especially the voice acting from Steven Yeun, Sterling K. Brown, and Sandra Oh. I loved the first 20 minutes of the episode the most, especially when Invincible was transported to the walking dead universe which is my favorite show and comic also made by Robert Kirkman. The animation team did so good every fight scene and just every part of the episode was great (even the jogger at the beginning was animated extremely well for such an inadequate scene.) I cannot wait for the next season but I think I will have to read the comics first just because of how good I know this story will get!

Amazing Finale, But Slightly Unsatisfactory
SHU_Movies4 April 2024
This episode is objectively an amazing Season Finale, with fantastic animation, cool action, great emotional moments, and amazing writing. I will admit, though, that it did leave me rather unsatisfied. They didn't do nearly as much with the concept of the Multiverse as they could've, it wasn't as jaw-dropping as the finale of Season 1, and didn't feature *that* character that I know a lot of comic fans (myself included) were very excited to see

It is a fantastic episode and sets-up a great Season 3, but there's a lot that could've been done way better!

Here's to hoping that Season 3 is worth the wait!

Just wow.
mandryszko-744234 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
What a crazy episode. There was almost always constant action with Mark fighting Angstrom. The rising tension was dealt with well, and the different dimensions that Mark was thrown in were also cool. The ones with batman and spiderman were questionable tho(still no hate). Apart from this Mark losing control was great, as it opened a path for the blue suit which we will see soon. Also, when Mark was stuck in a different dimension for 20 years and the team found him it was just wow. With Old Eve finally telling Mark how she felt, which set up the ending as mark lay on Eve's shoulder at one of the last frames(annoyed me that he didn't tell her that he likes her, but I guess the time will come). Finally on Allen and Nolan the ending when Allen talked about mark and Nolan saying he missed Debbie left us wondering if they will break out of the prison(they definitely will). Overall, loved the episode but wished there was more. Hopefully it doesn't take 2 years to watch season 3.

Absolutely Peak (spoiler free)
operez-278874 April 2024
Now before I get people arguing they've seen better or they didn't do this or that. I just wanna say this episode was not rush, stuck to the comic story while being its own original thing, and did not need huge power fighting action to be peak.

First paragraph is about season 2 as a whole and the seconds is about just the season 2 finale. It being a spoiler free I will make my statements quick and short.

Season 2 With that out of the way invincible season 2 was admittedly kinda slow at some points or just ok. They tried their best, they give us happy moments, and build up future storylines (if you were watching carefully). For that it being slow or ok was excused for the sense of building up more epic moments.

Season 2 finale Now dear god how can I explain what I watch without spoiler. The amount of actions, @buse, mental breakdown, character development, and Easter eggs were insane. They somehow managed to rap up the Angstrom levy story quickly in the first 20 minutes while still giving everyone (us the audience too) lots of emotional and epic moments. It truly wasn't rush and was funny at sometimes and knew how to switch bad to being serious and intense I just couldn't. Literally some points I felt worried and sad, then excited and happy, to then just end up going right back to being shocked and sad. Also there is a moment where the audience may be mad because he didn't do it and yes I was mad too, but thinking about it now that would've ruined the huge sense of grief and sadness happening. It just wouldn't have mix well and the writers knew this so they changed it and left it as a masterpiece in the end. I know if I talk further about this then I may actually reveal something by mistake so GO WATCH IT NOW.

HOLEY MOLEY
choiproductionsyt4 April 2024
To me, this is the second best episode of the series, right behind the season 1 finale. The first third is excellent with finally having to deal with the big baddie. The second third, if you ask me, is equally as excellent with a lot of trauma and it shows that Invincible, similarly to Bojack Horseman is willing to have it's big climatic events come first, with some cooldown coming after. It's genuinely excellent. I'm glad this episode only chooses around three-ish plotlines to bring back. But seriously, what is the mummy plotline from the beginning of season 1 doing here. It's kind of innapropriate in an otherwise AIR TIGHT episode.

Amazingly executed!
batkidjon4 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
As a fan of the comics the first 20 minutes of the episode gave me goosebumps to watch happen animated. I love the way Mark addresses he's holding back and his struggling to deal with how he killed Angstrom Levy. Also love the way they are setting up Mark and Amber relationship and how it's affecting both of them. One of my favorite things about this episode was the unpredictability of how no one is safe and everyone can get hurt or affected relative to Debby in this episode. I can't wait to see what's next for this show and for Mark to finally start living up to his name. Everything about it is amazing and worth the wait!

It is good, but it made the whole season feel like a filler
cainacastora5 April 2024
I get the feeling they tried to do a lot of build up, not only with the season, but especially this episode.

I am still quite torn between a bit underwhelmed of the impact, yet satisfied with what they included andhowit was executed.

There are times it maybe got a bit too meta, but it never got to the pointwhere it felt like exeggarated fanservice or something.

All this let me hope that season 3 will pickup more steam right from the beginning, after giving a resolution to a lot of side character stories this season.

IMO it was really a pity how they handled the release with a mid season break.

Gripping
guerrio4 April 2024
It was a great finale, the things that were wrapped up were done very well and not rushed at all. I was worried that there would be too much going in this episode but fortunately things were paced very well and nothing got half-baked.

I'm giving it a 9 though because for a season finale it left too much up in the air, it was juggling too much that the beginning of season 3 could've introduced instead. Either that or, this show would easily benefit from having 10-episode seasons, or at least this one.

The edging continues it seems, so with this finale I will have to shelf it in the back of my mind until an official release date is announced for season 3 (to prevent myself from going insane).

The leading superhero series right now
sakaiser-898404 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The episode differs in the intensity and adrenaline of the first season finale, but also creates a nice, beautiful loop, referencing it in many ways. Only the blood is now on other hands, and the difference is huge. And it hits hard. Hits the 10.

In the finale here, as well as the season as a whole and the series, deals with the issue of power and responsibility better than any comic book adaptation. Here you can see Spider-Man, Batman, Superman, but not on the screen, but between the lines. And this interlinear version is executed so much better than the originals that it wins the right to be called absolutely independent. Mark Grayson becomes a full-fledged character in the second season, developing in such a realistic and detailed way that it overshadows every other film adaptation that has attempted to work with similar material. It's deeper, more emotional, better.

Great directing. Great writing.

The best of the show so far
moosajafridi4 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The season 2 finale for me, is on par if not better than the finale for the first season which was my favorite episode, they captured every element perfectly. The fight with Levy first starting off with captivating banter was executed flawlessly, the dread, the fear, the suspense on Debbie's and Oliver's lives was exceptional. Mark losing control and brutally murdering Angstrom and his fear of becoming like his dad was amazing and the cliffhanger of how Allen and Omni man will escape the prison and how they're going set up Mark and Eves relationship leaves me on the edge of my seat wanting more.

Excellent finale! Not everything has to end in a big brawl
tdsearles255 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I see the complaints about how this finale was lesser than season ones finale. Because there wasn't a big showdown at the end? This episode was filled with well written moments and satisfying payoff after two complete seasons.

We got the big fight at the beginning of the episode with Mark losing it on Angstrom Levy, who turned out to be a formidable foe. We then have him facing the dilemma of who he wants to be and how he wants to defy the things that corrupts so many others.

We also get to see the evolution of Omnimans character and his conversation with Allen. Its all building into an exciting future!

Allen, Mark, Omniman, Eve and the coming war against Viltrimites. There are great things coming in the seasons that follow.

I love the show still. But it was nowhere close to last seasons finale
kevinandrewsphoto5 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This didnt feel like a season finale. They didnt build up to this. The main villain was from the beginning of the season who even Mark forgot. They only brought in Nolan in the mid finale and actual finale but he might as well not been in this episode.

If I knew another season was coming in 6-9 months I wouldn't be as upset. But the fact you have to wait 3 years for 4 episodes, and then another few months for 4 more... it's extremely frustrating for I show I absolutely love.

I didn't feel much of a connection to Mark over his guilt because he really did have to kill Angstrom. Even if it was gruesome. That doesn't make him his father. Nolan never had guilt, and he killed the innocent.

Still very much a huge fan. But if we have to wait 2 years for another episode it would be very upsetting.

Amazing work by the voice actors, writers and animators.

Unsatisfying
kgr-743535 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I don't like where the writers went with making mark so averse to killing someone that is actively trying to kill him and his mom and his infant brother. This took up 80% of the finale of a season that took so long to make and release. Also I am not positive but mark had to have killed someone before this - like what about the flaxans?

I would have preferred focus on the other stuff like viltrum empire, allen, the resistance, etc... There are just too many open plot lines and character arcs for them to just create one in the finale that I strongly feel wasn't justifiable and then spend all the time focusing on that.

Great Overall but Disappointing at Times
anonymous_Tigraway13 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
To start with what worked in this episode, Invincible reckoning with his first kill, Angstrom Levy, was very well done. The writing & voice acting from Steven Yeun and Sterling K Brown were impeccable. The dazed & enraged Angstrom was a formidable enemy to drive Mark over the edge and the scenes where he terrorized Debbie & Oliver were visceral & frightening. We have seen Mark, time and time again, get physically overpowered but here, he responded with the sheer violence and power that he had in him - the power he inherited from Nolan- to punch Angstrom to death as he threatened his family. Later on this episode, what he fears the most since Nolan's rampage last season - ending up like him - drives his decision to quit college and work on controlling his powers. This was another piece of great writing - Mark's first kill is not glossed over as it could have been. It is a monumental shift on his character - a decision that could open the floodgates for Mark to go down the dark road Nolan went through or to keep it at bay with all his might. Hence, the decision Mark made to quit college near the end of episode shows he is trying to stay on the latter path and not lose his way. It is true to the Mark we know & love.

Debbie respecting and supporting his decision was moving and she might be the best character on the show for me after Nolan and Mark. She is such a powerful lover, protector, and warrior and having her beside him, despite losing Amber, will keep Mark emotionally grounded as he deals with the threats looming on Earth from the Viltrumites & other foes. (What a catch from Debbie this episode haha)

Allan & Nolan's scenes were a highlight and I am eager to see how they will break out from jail. The "I think I miss my wife" line from Nolan was quite funny and makes me intrigued as to how Debbie will react if/when she sees him again. Mark's rage/love hug towards Nolan was such a powerful moment and would love to have another version of that with Nolan & Debbie.

What makes this episode of Invincible weaker are the plot holes studded along the storyline ...and some "walk backs". The part of the episode where Mark is rescued by a future version of the Guardians team was quite confusing. The multiverse plot is already a hard pill to swallow and parallel timelines where back and forth time travel is possible unnecessarily complicates the plot and weakens the agency and consequences of the decisions made by our characters. (Another minor issue here - future Eve fixes all parts of Mark including his cloth except for his swollen eye; this was a non-sensical way to keep the scars that Mark had from his fight with Angstrom and hard to comprehend. Perhaps the writers knew how the time travel altered consequences for our characters and wanted Mark to keep the scar - the sole memento of the Angstrom battle. This was a forced intervention and introduces yet another inconsistency.)

The fact that DupliKate is alive was disappointing to say the least. Of course I am happy for the Immortal who is happy to see Kate is not gone from this world. But after her emotional passing and funeral, to have her back so soon felt rushed and diminished the impact of the two episodes that came before the finale.

Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the second season of Invincible including this finale. As I mentioned in my past previews, I firmly believe Invincible will not reach the heights of season one the rest of its runtime. But I hope to see season 3 improve on season 2. Huge kudos to all involved in making the show and the admins of the Twitter/X page of Invincible who gave me some hearty laughs these past few weeks. You rock!

My rating is 9/10 for this episode and 9 for the second season overall.

What a Villain!
MamadNobari974 April 2024
Talk about making an incredibly memorable, brutal, and complex villain!

At first, at the beginning of the season, I was iffy about introducing the multiverse in yet another fictional universe, but what they did with the villain and his powers here is amazing. I was also complaining about how little we saw of Angstrom Levy throughout the season, but I think with this resolution, it might've been enough.

Basically, the first half of this episode does the heavy lifting for Angstrom Levy's characterization and turns him into an unforgettable and powerful villain. I wish they did the same for that lion dude in the first season. I don't know why he wasn't a bigger part and hasn't come back yet.

But anyway, the multiverse stuff are handled pretty well here, and apart from some (literally) Marvel-level references and nods to other media, that were few and funny enough to not have a problem with them, they did a great job with the whole thing.

Angstrom Levy is what a well-written and impactful villain should be. He's not necessarily evil nor are his intentions inherently evil, he's the evil that our hero directly or indirectly and inadvertently created, and now he does evil things to do what's necessary for his good intentions (at least in his own mind).

He's a villain who will challenge the hero physically and mentally. He's a villain who'll have a long-lasting impact on the hero and will change him forever.

This episode and what Angstrom Levy does to Mark Grayson is a character-defining moment for Invincible, and I think it's just one of many that will come. Angstrol's actions and their consequences send Mark into an existential crisis and an introspection journey.

So even though Angstrom Levy's screen time in this season was short and I usually hate it when movies or shows (especially comic books) only show the villain in the beginning and we don't see them until the final conflict and basically don't get to really know them, I love what they did with Levy here and I can turn a blind eye to how little we see of him here. It was worth it honestly.

Angstrom is a villain we can totally see where he's coming from and sympathize with him a little, but also can see he is obviously evil and revenge has blinded him. They create such a deep and complex character in a short amount of time and it's really great. I wouldn't even consider him a villain villain, to be honest, he's more like an anti-villain to me.

So this a lesson in writing, especially for comic book writers and especially the comic book movies we've been getting these past couple of years. Make your villains matter. If your antagonist doesn't change your hero and doesn't change his worldview and your hero still feels the same after encountering them, what's the point? Watch this episode and see how to do a good villain who'll leave his mark and is impactful as hell.

And they don't even have your typical Batman vs Joker interrogation or Daredevil vs The Punisher rooftop dialogue scenes where they challenge each other's methods and worldview. This is a more punchy punchy and less talky version of that, but it's still as impactful.

So overall this is a really great finale and the definitely best episode of the season. In this review focused purely on the first half of the episode and how good the villain was, I usually talk about all the stuff that happened, but the first half was so good that I don't even want to talk about anything else. The second half is about the aftermath and although it was also pretty good, as a whole, the finale wasn't really a 10/10 at least for me. I don't think I gave any episode of this season a full 10/10 rating unlike multiple 10s I gave to season 1. But that doesn't mean it wasn't good, just not as back to back surprises and brutality as the first season.

I can understand why some people are disappointed, but I'm not one of them
musket_guy7 April 2024
This season finale was definitely less grandiose than what we got in the first season. No planet-crushing threats, the stakes are much more grounded but still just as personal. Just like season 2 itself, the final episode is dedicated to developing Mark's character, setting up future events and enriching the story. And it does so in a really well-written and memorable way. The protagonist of this show has substantially grown during this season and I love how they developed all other characters as well, especially Rex, Omni-Man and Amber.

However, after such a long wait, most people expected something that would surely overcome the first season in terms of scope. But instead they received a very well-made buildup storyline, with most payoffs being delayed until the next season (which, as a comic reader, I guarantee will be HUGE).

I'm pretty sure that if this season came out much sooner (and without the annoying mid-season break), it would've been received much better by the overwhelming majority of people who disliked it. Many great shows have slower second seasons, mostly dedicated to character building and the setup of future events (like in Game of Thrones, Better Call Saul, Mr. Robot and many more). Invincible is one of those shows. It does so really well, but it's a shame that most long-awaited payoffs are still not here... However, I'm sure that this season will be seen in a much more favorable light in the long run. But right now all I can say is that I have genuinely enjoyed this season, although due to a very underwhelming release schedule, I can see why many people were upset with it.

A good finale. Not as good as last season but still good
deanoabcdgod6 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
To be honest, this finale is not bad, but I was not that satisfactory with this episode. Until the last few minutes. I believe what makes this one good is how every character think, they have reasonable motives to do their things, and they show those shiny points that human have. When Omni man said "I miss my wife", and the ending is not the theme music instead just no sound, damn that makes me feel sad. Just one point, don't regret when you are about to lose, be nice to those you care about. However still that point, last season was too good, feels like this finale is not that good. Last finale was like Omni man. A god, that is born so strong, while this season is like homelander, still strong but obviously can't compare to someone born so atrong.

Freakin' Levy...
Trey_Trebuchet6 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I absolutely loved this character in the comics and was particularly looking forward to this episode. I'm glad it was this good, and served as an excellent finale.

I can't say I much agree with the criticism I'm hearing. Isn't as good a finale as Season 1's? No, but it's pretty close for me. It was every bit as disturbing, hard to watch, unflinching, brutal and still pretty emotionally devastating too. There's certainly so set-up here for what's to come, but it still felt very conclusive. People need to lighten up.

I love what the writers did with Mark this season. Things are really about to change for him going forward. THIS episode really feels like the turning point for his character as well as the safety of his loved ones.

Also adored Debbie this season. Again, feels like things are coming sort of full circle for her. She's even better here than she was in the comics.

Levy's short time was excellent and I LOVED Sterling K. Brown's performance. Literally perfect casting, and if you're a fan or the comics, your probably super anxious about what's coming...

The multiverse stuff was scary but also pretty freakin' entertaining. I personally loved the Spider-Man cameo and am glad that was expanded upon from the comics. Seeing all of the different Marks was truly horrifying.

Not Mark smacking Angstrom Levy with a Fortnite gun😂

I'm very content with this finale. It did justice to the comics but I'd even argue that it did it even better. This whole season did a lot of things better than the comics. At this rate, I could see them easily doing this through at least season 5, maybe season 6.

I hope we don't get any more mid-season breaks though. It's so unnecessary.

Warning: Spoilers
Season 2 of the final 8 episodes turned out to be really decent, a great start, moments with movement and a change of mark in the moment with the battle. I was surprised at some points, partly because there weren't many really bloody moments during the season, apart from a couple of episodes. I hope season 3 won't let you down and each episode won't be any worse. We are waiting for season 3. Incredible season finale
JimmyJackson49795 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Admittedly, it's not as good at the season 1 finale, but I don't think many people expected it to surpass that. Regardless, this is second best episode of the show, BY FAR. The fight with Angstrom was extremely brutal, with the way Mark ultimately kills him and the trauma that ensues. The little references with all the different dimensions was pretty fun too, they balance the comedy and drama incredibly. They went all out with the animation of the fight, and Yuen's voice acting in this episode was some of the best I've ever seen.

Although this season probably won't be held at the same level as the first, it definitely has a lot more to offer overall. I would say its more consistent across its run compared to season 1, though it does spend a lot of time setting up plot points, which is understandable given season 3 is coming soon.

SPECTACULAR!
thorntonjoseph-888654 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
The penultimate episode of season 2 left us on a huge cliffhanger setting up an insane finale, and this didn't disappoint! While not the best episode of the show, this finale is absolutely worthy. Without a shred of doubt in my mind the darkest and most gruesome episode of the entire show, numerous scenes pushing me to the edge of my seat and leaving me in utter shock. Particularly the scene when Mark's mom's arm gets torn off, that was unexpected. Speaking of unexpected, seeing Mark finally not hold back and simply destroy his opponent was incredibly satisfying, and the contrast between that scene and the season 1 finale was brilliant. What has always frustrated me with Mark is that he's always held back and got his ass whooped, so like I said, seeing him cripple his opponent was satisfying as hell, but obviously very dark at the same time. I think this definitely had potential to be the best episode of the series, and while still incredible, I still feel like they held back with it. Also one thing left me very unsatisfied that being Mark and Eve. I've been waiting for them to become a thing since their first scene together and I thought it was finally gonna happen, but it didn't. Anyhow, what an amazing finale to a great season!

Underwhelming finale
ddbridge4 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
We waited 4 months for...this? This episode felt so anticlimactic. We end the season on a fight with a villain who I found to be uninteresting and unsympathetic. And then this whole multiverse plotline is really starting to rear its ugly head. I was hoping it would die with the Angstrom character, but nope... it seems it'll still be utilized in the future. This worries me because there are so many ways that the plot can begin to crumble when time travel and dimensions are introduced.

Maybe I'm being a bit harsher on this episode because I remember how amazing the season one finale was. But honestly, this one felt like it lacked heart. It wasn't bad by any means but for a season finale that we had to wait months for, it just didn't deliver like it should've. Hopefully season three will more than make up for such an underwhelming finale. And Amazon, please stop doing breaks for a show that only has 8 episodes!

We waited months, for this?
sahumph-560125 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
This season has been an utter disappointment. It's clear the creators didn't know where the hell they wanted this season to go. We had 2-3 episodes about Mark and Amber's relationship...really? That's 25% of season 2 on a relationship between Mark and the most insufferable, whiny, selfish person in the series.

Now for this episode, it doesn't get 1 star because the first half is pretty good, good fights, cool worlds, actual stakes involved. But then once again, we go back to Mark crying about losing control. His Mum and Baby brother were literally going to be beaten to death against a guy who's really strong and powerful, As well as way above being reasoned with. And yet mark is sad because he had to kill him. I guarantee any actually good person who knows that it is your family or the villain, the villain has to die.

Finally, we get absolutely nothing of Omni man in viltrumite custody, literally nothing has happened in 4 hour long episodes. If this is what season 3 will be like, I implore you to stop here, read the comics and forget about this daft series.

An intimate and personal finale
partypants-6123026 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I don't think people get what the aim of this finale was. A finale doesn't have to have a huge climactic brawl! Although it did have a big fight, it ended prematurely. BUT THAT IS THE POINT. This finale is all about the characters and the journey, the mistakes and development mark has had. This episode is very somber and reflective showing the change in your main protagonists. I also enjoyed the references made with the multiverse hopping. Some people are saying that the ,"main villian," of this season was underwhelming but I don't think so. His conflict wasn't earth destroying, he was there to show how mark was becoming more like his father. Overall great episode and great season.

THE TOP PEAK OF AN EPISODE
rkkwxy5 April 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Boy this is the episode that is the cherry on top of the sundae. But I swear the fight scene between angstrom and mark in my opinion was probably better than mark vs Omni man(maybe). But that last bit where Angstrom makes mark snap. Was what stood out to me. It literally reminds you of the season finale of the first season. Where Omni kicks the crap out of mark but it's as if angstrom was mark and mark was Omni man. And also I think angstrom is the villains in this show that are top tier probably close to Omni man. Because he is basically that villain that wanted to break Mark and he probably succeeded on that. 10/10.
