AVGN has been struggling to keep it's audience engaged for many a year now, but this episode has proven to be a new low.
"Earthworm Jim Trilogy" is awfully generic. The nerd performs by the numbers actions / remarks and delivers them in a robotic, monotone & unconvincing fashion. James Rolfe has lost the ability to perform the character, opting to instead, flanderize the characters quirks. This is a big reason why the recent episodes (including this one) suffer so much.
The episode itself looks lifeless, every shot where we see the nerd feels crowded and hastily put together, especially when the camera is behind the futon. The footage also suffers from a bafflingly saturated yellow-copperish color grade, which ruins the image. Thankfully, this doesn't seem to be present in the gameplay footage.
This episode has nothing new to it's name, it only continues to reference iconic moments from older episodes in derivative and dull way. The nerd has hardly anything interesting to say about the three games either.
The AVGN series has had many chances to improve and evolve, but James hasn't taken that chance, only continuing to churn out mediocre episodes for the big bucks...
