Great acting, wonderful dialogues and very exciting!

Very good series, if you don't know Ferry just don't miss it, you will not regret!, he is a very special man and he is not afraid of anything.

The choice of actors seems perfect to me. I love the actress Elise Schaap in her role as Ferry's partner, very authentic and realistic, and of course Frank Lammers as Ferry, simply wonderful!

The story is very well told and has many good exciting moments, and that touch of comedy that suits Ferry very well due to his personality.

I found it very exciting and not at all boring, even the ending left me satisfied.

It doesn't seem at all comparable to Latin American series, for example Narcos, and I can't stand comparing. It's a criminal story in Brabant, Holland, where the world of drugs is very present. Ferry is just unique!

Don't miss it! It has all the elements to have fun and enjoy, action, crime and funny moments.

I recommend you see it in the original version, in Dutch with subtitles. It is the only way to understand it better through intonation.

It has no right to be this good.

I'm from Brabant, grew up close to where Lammers (lead actor) was born. Half the cast comes from the region. Yes, this series is dramatized, made for entertainment, sometimes cringey and too flashy, but that's okay we're not watching a documentary.

Some of you might not understand that to me, this series is not that far fetched at all. XTC has had a major major influence on border region between The Netherlands and Belgium, followed by all the social/economical/ecological problems.

The story is good, acting is really good for Lowlands-standards. You'll enjoy this one, it's well written.

Also in this case I don't even think you'll need to watch Undercover before Ferry. Maybe start with Ferry the Movie, then Ferry, then Undercover. No idea why they're making prequels not sequels but I'm not complaining.

Excellent eurocrime
markvanwasbeek7 November 2023
I am glad the Flemish producers of the hit-show Undercover decided to deepen the most interesting storyline, that of drug kingpin Ferry. The first season of Undercover was the best, although the later seasons are pretty good too. You can't help but see the reminiscence to Breaking Bad though (Ferry is Walter, Daniëlle is Skyler, Lars is Jesse and John is Mike). Even the goonie friends of Dutch-Jesse are present. But as a Dutch saying goes, better stolen properly than made-up poorly :) In that sense it does a great job. The portrayal of the underground synthetic drug scene is a major problem down in the south here, and the acting is spot on. The character Ferry feels more fleshed out the longer Frank Lammers plays it, which can be weird since this show is set before the first season of Undercover. I just love Elise Schaap, in this part but she seems to be a really nice person too.

Casting for Lars is perfect too, before this I only knew Yannick van de Velde from the SUPER funny Rundfunk show and movie Jachterwachter.

The production seems on par with American standards, which should make this show more appealing abroad.

If you liked Breaking Bad, Top Boy or other drug related crime dramas, and you feel like having a look into the Dutch underworld, this is definitely for you.

Watch the movie Ferry first though, for background purposes. And watch it in Dutch with subtitles. Otherwise the sublteties will be lost in translation.

Frank Lammers acting takes it to a new level
endemus-8807412 November 2023
There are some parts in the serie that are questionable or somewhat predictable. And yes, the acting is not all great, I really expected more from for instance Tygo Gerbrandt. But Ferry was just phenomenal. The dark side of the drugscriminal was really frightening, and it created a scary but beautiful contrast against the love for Daantje. It was really good and convincing chemistry between the two lead actors. The plot is maybe a bit to straight forward, but the characters and the way they slowly slide deeper and deeper into the criminal underworld, and how it changes their characters, is really well played. A must see!

More of the same goodness, but characters are frustrating
J0SCH6 November 2023
If you like the prior show/movie, you'll enjoy this. Has the same look, feel, and enjoyable plot. It's not too riveting, not too predictable, not super intellectual, but is simple fun to watch. My only criticism, which I think exists in the prior stories, is how stupid almost all of the primary characters seem most of the time... terrible decision making, tons of impulse behavior, lots of repeat mistakes with zero learning, and lots of taking things at face/surface level... which seems to be the main engine behind the drama of the show as poor decision making and lack of control create problems.

Consistent Quality
films_films_films12 November 2023
After the series Undercover and the movie Ferry this series is the third series/movie Netflix dedicates to the gangster Ferry (of course the series Undercover was not entirely centred around him) taking place between the first two.

This series maintains the quality of the first two. Hence, if you watched and liked the first two you will not be disappointed by this series.

The cinematography, design and acting are very good. But two things really stand out for me: first, in contrast to most Gangster/Drug stories taking place in the U. S. and/or South America this series (as well as its predecessors of course) takes place in Western Europe. Second, this series frequently tells background stories of main (supporting) characters, which makes the actions and emotions of these characters very comprehensible.

All in all a very good series!

Yes! Ferry again!
anandhello5 November 2023
They have made it very entertaining again. If you liked undercover and Ferry the movie, you will enjoy this as well! Great acting, great characters and it all gives you some context on how it all went down before undercover.

The build up is good, the ending is good and you can see the character development being done nicely and easily. I really hope season 2 is planned for next year. We watched all 8 episodes in 2 evenings and now, we have to wait!

I must say, they have dramatised a lot, but I think thats actually part of the theme of this series. I think its fair to say that it gets boring if all series have the same theme, same thing going on all the time.

More of the same, and that is nod a bad thing
paul-allaer19 November 2023
As Episode 1 pf "Ferry: The Series" (2023 co-production from Belgium and the Netherlands; 8 episodes ranging from 36 to 51 minutes) opens, Ferry is down on his luck trying to sell XTC pills, getting nowhere. On the other hand, things between Ferry and his girlfriend Daan are great, and at a part Ferry proposes to her... At this point we are 10 minutes into Episode 1.

Couple of comments: the Ferry character was developed in the ultra-successful TV series "Underground", which ran for 3 seasons. Ferry was clearly THE breakout character, and a spin-off (and prequel) movie called "Ferry" was released in 2021. Now 2 years later we pick up where that prequel left off. The themes remain the same, with Ferry battling hard to become a player in the XTC pills manufacturing and distribution industry in the Belgian-Holland borderline region. None of what plays out in this series comes as a surprise. It's just that Frank Lammers (as Ferry) is again at the top of his game, I mean it feels like he has prepared his entire career to play this role. Even though I originally hail from Antwerp and speak/understand Dutch fluently, I nevertheless follow most of the band-and-forth conversation with the subtitles, as the Dutch and Flemish accents are heavy duty.

"Ferry: The Series" recently premiered on Netflix, and I watch the 8 episodes over a couple of evenings. If all goes to plan, I'm sure we'll be getting "Ferry: The Series 2" in a couple of years, and I'm already looking forward to it. If you likes "Underground" or "Ferry", or simply are in the mood for a top notch foreign drug crime drama, I'd readily suggest you check this out, and draw your own conclusion.

Very original and realistic!
csanadavans25 November 2023
Very exciting show! It's well written and realistic. Ferry is a very authentic character who certainly has his flaws, and he's just fun to watch. The show centers around the drug trade in extasy, and the manufacture of these drugs in the south of the Netherlands. The province is somewhat infamous for that nowadays, which makes it more relatable. During this prequel of "Undercover" you definitely get a good sense of how Ferry's character and his business developed.

John might be an underappreciated character, not only in this series, but also "Undercover" which comes after this. Very strong character and good acting. Ferry and John complement each other very well.

The show gives a very realistic view of life in the north of Belgium and the south of Brabant. It's original: good to see something different than Rotterdam and Amsterdam, or Antwerp. I can definitely recommend it for whoever would like to know the country better, by watching an bold and authentic thriller series.

I gave this the maximum score, as this series just has everything that I could ask: good story line, action, humor, excitement, realism.

Constantly couldn't wait to see the next episode.

Disappointing ...
mediumdigitum-053815 November 2023
In my humble opinion, 'Ferry the Series' has left me somewhat underwhelmed, and I occasionally find myself feeling bored while watching it. The quality of acting is certainly commendable, but the overall execution falls short of my expectations.

One of my primary reservations about the series is the lack of depth in exploring Ferry's backstory. I had hoped for a more profound dive into his life, particularly his early experiences and the events that shaped his character. Instead, the storyline felt all too familiar, resembling that of the original 'Undercover' series. This lack of innovation and differentiation from the parent series left me somewhat disheartened.

The storytelling, in my opinion, lacks the compelling elements that draw viewers in and keep them engaged. It's as if the plot follows a formulaic pattern, making it predictable and less exciting. The absence of unexpected twists and turns further contributes to the feeling of disappointment. I had anticipated a more intricate narrative that would not only shed light on Ferry's character but also present a unique and captivating plot line.

As I continue to watch the series, I find moments of boredom creeping in. This is not to say that there aren't moments of intensity and drama, but the overall pacing and execution sometimes fail to maintain my interest. It's as if the series has fallen into a pattern of predictability, and this repetition can be a drawback for viewers seeking fresh and engaging content.

Moreover, I can't help but feel that 'Ferry the Series' may have exhausted the potential of its storyline. It seems like the creators might have stretched the narrative to its limits, and I'm left wondering if there's much more to explore in this world. It's essential for a series to evolve and introduce new elements to keep its audience engaged, and 'Ferry' might have reached a point where it's challenging to introduce such novelty.

In summary, 'Ferry the Series' appears to have garnered mixed reviews, and I find myself among those who were left wanting more. The series boasts commendable acting and occasional moments of intensity, but it falls short in terms of innovation and a compelling narrative. I had hoped for a deeper exploration of Ferry's character and a more distinct storyline. As it stands, the series feels somewhat derivative of the original 'Undercover' and could benefit from injecting new life into the narrative to keep viewers excited. It remains to be seen whether the creators will take a more ambitious approach in future seasons, but for now, I'm cautiously optimistic about the direction of the series.

Engaging but lacking originality.
pawelapenczek14 November 2023
The show itself hovers around 8, it is reasonably short, this decline coiple of slow moments now and then it never gets tedious.in fact, one cannot help.rooting for bad guys, who come across as industrious and honest. The show could use bigger budget as 2-3 interiors and coiple of empty lots quite quickly get repetitive. In addition, I didn't know that Low Countries had such a great climate. It is always sunny and everybody wears short sleeve.

So why only 6/10 after I annoyed the show so much? It happens to be a carbon copy of Breaking Bad. Those of us who know the original be heart can easily predict what will happen in Ferry from one scene to another and I got tired of aligning characters with thidr in Breaking Bad. However, if you are going to steal, steal from the best and Ferty provides coiple of hours of engaging entertainment.

Very boring and disappointing

Exciting as always with a good learning lesson!
sebastianruizc6 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
I felt dissapointed about the final.

Ferry: De Serie was extremely good, entertaining and exciting (as always)!

The actors were fantastic.

Honestly, I didn't like much the flashbacks, but this is a personal opinion when I watch a Movie.

At the end, I felt dissapointed because I have been watching Ferry for 3 years, and this is the first time when I see that Ferry and John had to make a difficult decision: kill Marco (his business partner). The drama was too good that I thought that they were good people (movies).

The lesson is that you CAN'T trust on the Mafia. They might kill if needed. It is sad, but I was totally disappointed about Ferry and John, I was so inmersed in the characters, that I forgot that they are Gangsters.

Nevertheless, an extraordinary serie!

Very good. Frank Lammers is the best Dutch actor.
paulvancraeynest9 January 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Although somewhat less then "Undercover", I enjoyed it very much. Frank Lammers is by far the best Dutch actor. The character of Ferry Bouman is really him.

In Undercover, he played the wealthy, merciless and grumpy drug lord. In this prequel, we see him starting his career. He is ambitious and fearless, and does whatever it takes to take his place in the ruthless drug business.

His soft spot is his girlfriend Danielle, also well played by Elise Schaap. He realizes he would be emotionally lost without her, while she tries to come to terms, when she realises her man a merciless criminal. I recommend.

Completely falls apart after episode 6
ryanmkincaid28 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
After such a brilliant start the series stumbles then falls flat after episode 6. It's as if the writers realized they wrote a great story but needed to rely on cliches to end the first season.

After Marco is arrested his attorney brilliantly gets him out of jail only to have him first confess to his wife and then let her convince him to turn on Ferry. Couple that with stupid idea to allow Danielle to live under their roof as they plot to take her husband down.

I've been a fan of the Ferry character since the first 2 seasons of Undercover, and while I hated how his character fell on his sword to protect the cop that took him down in season 1, I chalked it up to him being second banana. This series however continues the trend of bad writing with the characters in this universe.

Great start but they didn't stick the landing.
