Amateurs At Their Worst! ♦ 13%

So much anticipation acting behind the release of this movie truly proves how it is a gimmick.

A bunch of amateur filmmakers try & fail abruptly in creating a suspense-filled horror show. Much like his previous work Yakshiyum Njaanum, Vinayan takes up an interesting topic & adds ennui-inducing elements to it. Yes, viewers love horror genre but turning it into a comedy show is worse than making a drama film.

Actors are newbies and the actor who played Dracula is appreciable but isn't fully himself. Supporting cast cannot act, cannot lip-sync nor can I decipher their dialogs properly. On the other hand, dialogs suck to the core, action sequences are full of goofs, terrible cinematography & awful photography. Ten minutes into the screenplay, improper lighting & setup actually works against the film and turns the viewer off.

Some songs in between are brought up just for the heck of it and actresses flashing their cleavages and wearing scanty clothes is the perfect inkling to why you should skip this. Not a single scene in this 140 minutes of torture makes sense. Avoid!

BOTTOM LINE: Not Recommended due to its shoddy narration & vague adaptation of the famous vampire. This is, actually a shame for the Malayalam industry.

Would recommend 10/10, family thriller, movie way ahead of his time, Vinayan brilliance, 75% for men and 25% for women. No misogyny, no casteism, no racism, no sexism. Vinayan did it before it was cool. Nolan ezhutumo ithupole. #WeNeedVinayanCut

Dracula 2012

The Dracula film franchise has been done to undeath, but this 2013 release in a language spoken by less than forty million people comes over very well. It begins when an Indian tourist in Romania is taken possession of by the wicked Count, and to make sure everybody knows what is happening, the Count himself narrates this in the lingua franca of the Universe. English words and phrases are scattered throughout, and there is even a song in English.

Admittedly, the original novel didn't include mobile phones and the like, but if you have read it or are familiar with it, you will recognise some of the characters herein including Mina (spelt Meena here), and the ill-fated Lucy.

The special effects are excellent, and the soundtrack isn't bad either; this is a far better Dracula film than many churned out by the Western cinema.
