good, interesting and a little reflective
leonecostaferreira31 October 2023
I liked how this ep was constructed, I was worried that Wong would be explored in a bad way but everything was very balanced, I don't like how the president becomes childish throughout some of the eps in which he participates, but it's something that can be seen get used to.

I also liked how Unity was highlighted, with a certain emotional appeal in Rick's life that hadn't been clear before, another one of so many situations in which we realize that Rick needs to hold on and continue moving forward. I think this feeling will continue in the next episodes, but I also hope that some will have simpler stories with humor in the style of the first seasons.

This show needs fresh Characters!
masoud_ahmadi30 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I prefer this episode over the previous two, however, again if I want to consider the first 3 seasons as standard it's not a great one, just good.

I liked how genuinely Unity was, and the connection between Unity and Rick was certainly the highlight of the episode.

But, this episode again proves my theory, the issue is that recently, they are not able to develop new characters. So, they go and bring characters from previous seasons!

The show's reliance on revisiting old characters instead of introducing fresh ideas and characters is evident. Who is next to be back? The devil? Gazorpazorp? Snowball? The first seasons introduced numerous fascinating characters. When was the last time we saw a genuinely new character? Additionally, Morty's absence this season disrupts the central dynamic between him and Rick, which is crucial to the show's appeal.

Finally going back to the beginning
ninertribewins30 October 2023
In the last 2 seasons Rick and morty has lacked the magic captured in the beginning of the show. Ep 3 is not a perfect representation of what was but bringing back some familiar faces and continuing to develop president Curtis is definitely a step in the right direction. Where is Morty why is he being hidden? Why has this turned into the Rick show although we have some magic we still aren't seeing the banter between these two iconic characters we all love. Maybe it's due to the change in cast but if these next Couple episodes show the same lack of Rick and Morty in Rick and Morty season 8 may become a Cronenberg version of this beloved show.

Better
noawareness30 October 2023
This is continuing a better calibre of episode from episode one but it really does feel like the show has had a huge shake up.

It's almost as if they had a rule to not milk and reuse characters from previous episodes too much, prior to this season. They would drip feed cameos and jokes but they always made sure they didn't overdo things too much. This season looks to be doing the opposite in favour of fresh new ideas.

The relationship with the president has really run its course now and constantly harking back to therapy jokes feels beneath this show, then they bring back a character from numerous seasons past, that feels like a complete rehash with little new being said or impact to the overarching story.

I like that they're going full steam ahead but maybe try to keep some of what made the shows structure unique instead of trying to turn into The Simpsons.

MUCH better
benlestermusic5 November 2023
This felt much more like it! The humour landed, Rick's voice sounded far more convincing (although strangely Morty's seemed to have slipped a tad), and I enjoyed the return of several recurring characters.

This felt like I was watching classic Rick and Morty again, something I definitely couldn't say about the last episode for example. Even Mr. Stabby felt like a classic Roiland Rick and Morty character.

I'm really confused as to why this episode has a lower rating than last week's one! This is definitely an improvement on the previous two episodes, and I hope this is a trend that continues!

This is a wonderful episode

Warning: Spoilers
"Air Force Wong" is another fantastic, and uniquely touching episode that also contains plenty of laughs. It was nice to see Rick's therapy storyline from last season continue here. I'm glad the writers are actually trying to evolve him as a character by having him slowly lower his defenses, though not to an unrecognizable degree. This episode's trio of returning guest stars was stellar, with Keith David, Christina Hendricks and Susan Sarandon all bringing their A game. Hendricks in particular, much like her role as Cherie in Solar Opposites, brought a true sense of heart and weight as Unity. The ending to "Air Force Wong" hit me pretty hard emotionally, and a lot of that was carried through her performance. David's president is hilarious as ever, and Sarandon also delivered a few strong moments of insight. I was more emotionally invested with this episode than most others. I absolutely loved the character-driven stance it took in regards to its main topic, and the end result, for me anyway, was one of the show's more affecting half-hours.

Kind of a mixed bag
ericstevenson1 November 2023
This episode was just okay for me. I think the best part was probably Rick, who is as awesome as ever. The first two thirds of this episode are quite good, but it kind of goes off rails in the last third. It was nice to see Unity back. Hey, an old character I remember! It just seemed kind of out of character for the President to infect everyone just to get with Rick's therapist.

You really don't need to see all this throwing up in each other's mouths. Admittedly, the show as done worse things, but this came off as too crude. I kind of missed Morty. Wait, why doesn't Rick just tell Unity that he came from another dimension? Did Unity travel between Universes? Well, she is a God-like being so maybe she can do that. **1/2.

Disappointing
galouroalex30 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Honestly, for me it was the worst episode of the entire series. Showing that Rick is evolving, just to take away another relationship from him was too much for me.

Well, we definitely weren't expecting Rick to have to deal with a personal life on two levels. With all of the women in the world, is The President really into Dr. Wong? And we did not have Unity returning on our Season 7 scorecard - and she's there because she's worried about Rick because of what she's been hearing about Rick hunting Rick Prime?!? Yeah, that's definitely an ominous sign.

Just to be clear? As much as we want to call The President a "big bad," we really can't because is he really that different from Rick (minus the portal gun)?

That scene between Rick and Summer was a double-heartbreaker. We had Rick literally yelling out for his need for boundaries, but taking it out on the one person who just wanted to check on how he was doing.

Of course, Dr. Wong is the one to put it best - it might be going slowly, but Rick really is changing. Just the fact that Rick brought Dr. Wong along as some kind of proof was a big step in and of itself.

Air Force Wong" put Rick through the paces to see just how much of a changed man he truly is.

Family guy meets Modern Family
TiborvV31 October 2023
It seems like ai is writing the episodes. The characters seem like charicatures of themselves. Besides, they implement "gun in your face one-liners", instead of jokes with debth that actually are relevant to the plot. It seems like all the character and depth Rick and Morty had, is gone. Evil Morty will be ruined if he makes a comeback and it all seems a bit cringe worthy. I don't have high hopes, but I'll keep hoping for Justin to come back, since it seems a lot of what he did in the show was offscript and the writers just don't understand how to get that feeling across. I hope they bring in some depth, in favor of random Family Guy-esque jokes.

WONG
Trey_Trebuchet20 January 2024
Another drop in quality, but not by much honestly.

I still laughed out loud a handful of times. I don't think the writers this season have done too terrible of a job with the jokes. It isn't quite up to par with previous seasons, but not so horrible like others may lead you to believe.

The episode has some interesting things to say about your relationship with your therapist and shows the potential dangers of including your therapist in your personal or professional life outside of their office. Probably the best part of the episode. And I personally think Rick taking therapy is an interesting perspective and not totally out of character.

The small exchange between Rick and Unity at the end was revelatory and necessary to Rick's character. It was nice.

I do think the throwing-up was a bit much.

Not too bad overall.

Another miss
cwigtil-7562430 October 2023
This episode suffers on several levels. First, there's a recycling of ideas that doesn't really work. The audience is supposed to already know about the conceit of the recurring character, and furthermore we aren't really reminded of any of Rick's emotional connection to her until the end of the episode. The writing is relatively predictable, and there's a noticeable drop-off in attempts to add jokes-real jokes-to the script.

This is also unfortunately the first episode in which Ian Cardoni and Harry Belden's performances are not comedically up to par, and neither are the returning guest stars. Cardoni also really misses a chance to show off Rick's pathos. And sadly Belden's Morty still falls very flat in every scene, and is written in so little that this season 7 is basically "The Adventures of Rick." Sarandon seems outright bored. Hendricks carries the scenes that she's in, but she's written into too few of them to make much of a difference. This is on top of failures in sound editing (stepping on each other's lines).

Overall, the animation is top-notch, but I think the show's end is pretty much here.

Show has gone downhill
karthikambali30 October 2023
Whatever happened to the original rick and morty. The show seems to be having forced comedy and a totally diferent character arc now. The show has gone in a different direction altogether after S5. The voice actors are fine but the storyline and character arcs all dont even compare to what the show used to be. It's just better to rewatch the old episodes at this point than continue watching. The satire dark humour and character nature of morty and rick has changed a lot. Wish Adultswim could turn this around. It's better to end a good show rather than having it go through such a terrrible phase.

HORRIBLE, cancel the show
ajs32130 October 2023
It just keeps getting worse, senseless plots, try to use satirical comedy but completely fails and just becomes unbearable to watch, tries to use nostalgia with the characters in pervious good episode but just makes them worse.

Their writing is sooooo poor, like this season has not even attempted to use the family dynamic that has been their core to success. What I mean is that the entire family has no episodes together.

Tbh idk what I can even talk about, it was so boring and mundane to watch. There is nothing special about this show anymore, with these quality of episodes you would expect they release 50 each year and this is just filer.

Wong is a horrible character, President is overused in the same fashion too often. BUT it's Rick who I don't even know what he has become, there is no menace or ruthlessness in his character, he just seems kinda timid which is legit no fun to watch. He seems to cry over some sort of relationship with Wong and president but its just like actual rick wouldn't give af.

This show is now unbearable to watch, just cancel the show it they are producing 8 horrible episodes with maybe like 2 good these past couple season.

Started out strong but fell apart
cosmicsquid30 October 2023
Warning: Spoilers
This episode started out strong, and an episode delving into Rick's psyche, relationships, and personal growth was a welcome return to form. But, this episode isn't written with the nuance and emotional intelligence it so arrogantly seems to think it is. By the end of the episode, I felt like I watched a faux classic era episode. It almost hit emotionally, almost struck a chord with me, but it doubled down on a truly preposterous sentiment: That Rick was somehow in the wrong for setting boundaries and cutting someone out of his life who in a previous episode was shown to be unhealthy for him to be around. This episode lacks a grasp on Rick's character, or at least, it lacks a grasp on what is a healthy direction for his character to take, and a very skewed sense of healthy relationship dynamics. It doesn't take a mental health professional to understand that. In the scene that really undid this episode, the therapist stepped in and took Unity's side, telling Rick that he was in the wrong for choosing not to communicate with Unity, but seemed to pay no mind to Unity's petty, toxic, and harmful reaction toward Rick choosing to keep her out of his life, and it was played completely straight. This was treated by the show as right. The message that you're toxic for choosing not to be in contact with someone who's relationship with you was toxic and enabled the worst attributes of both of you is DANGEROUS. In the end, though it tried to accomplish the emotional depth of season 1/2 Rick and Morty, it ended up recontextualizing an episode that frankly didn't need to be, and ended up being an insulting and juvenile letdown, with none of the humor or wit to be at least enjoyable on a superficial level.

Character assassination?
mockinghell1 November 2023
Warning: Spoilers
The show has been trying to ruin the ruthlessness of Rick by constantly undermining him and pointing out his "flaws".

When I saw Rick for the first time it was very clear to me that he's a genius who suffers from despair, loneliness and sadness. So he gets really cynical and nihilistic about a lot of things, as a coping mechanism, which makes sense since he obviously went so far in the depth of the universe, and realized how how horrible it is when he started to look at the big picture. So to me, he's not an asshole, his cynicism and dryness are justified, enjoyable and fun. It's really fun to watch his character clash with concepts like family, culture, and friendships. To me this is very deep and that's what made me get hooked onto the show.

Now Rick is presented as just an asshole who needs therapy, that's it. They add random events to fill the gaps, and call it a day. The show seem to be going nowhere but with this, like it's really obvious they wanna kill the character. This episode just made him somehow lose his moral grounds to a something that wanna conquer the universe by controlling every living sentient, who dumped him and ghosted him, and in the end he's the asshole for, idk? Ghosting back? Like sheesh.

Was a great episode plot wise..
chasegrenier30 October 2023
But what's up with the new voice actors? Rick sounded awful this episode. Just me? It seems that these episodes are nice plotwise but meta wise it seems that the storyline is deteriorating due to... the different changes in the crew?

It appears that while the plot arcs are intriguing tales, the metaverse of the show itself might be grappling with a different kind of evolution. The ebb and flow of a series often tie closely to the synchronicity of its crew. With each change, there's a ripple effect on the overall dynamic. There's no excuse for metacritic to give low ratings due to these changes but at the same time it makes sense because I feel the same way.

just stop it with Obama
nerrdrage25 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Even worse than the first episode of the season. I couldn't even make it all the way through. This episode is not well thought out. It's just a situation with some random events being thrown at it, animated in hyper-style to make it seem at least faintly amusing.

Why is there a President Obama in Rick & Morty in 2023 anyway? He's been out of the public eye so long, it just seems weridly irrelevant. They really missed the boat with parodying Trump. Maybe he's his own parody so they decided to skip hiim.

Okay fine, but Biden should provide some comic fodder. Drooling, doddering old guy...oh wait, that's just Rick looking in a mirrror.

On to the next episode. Hope this whole season isn't a washout.
