I can understand the negativity but...

While there are weaknesses in this the final season of curb, I think there are still genuine laugh out loud moments that very few shows can produce. I think Larry David's problem is his sheer genius has created such a high bar: to compare this season to others is disingenuous. The art of making people laugh is far more difficult and precious than the art of ripping him apart on review sites. People saying that Leon and other characters are just phoning it in I think isn't fair. They are the people that made the show what it is. Is Larry supposed to create a bunch of new characters to keep everyone happy? As he said, this is the last season, treasure the fact we ever had this show at all rather than nitpicking at reused material and tired actors. Everything has a beginning middle and ending, and I will be shedding a tear when the last episode airs as this show has been a lone beacon of humour through a quite frankly insane period of time. I am not for the mawkish or sentimental but if something is true it is not sentimental. So I say in truth, I love you Larry David.

The Dream Scheme

Warning: Spoilers
I don't know why these episodes run so long for such a weak payoff. The nuances of the old Curb where you could actually debate who was right and who was wrong are gone.

This is just Larry and Freddy acting like children, and Leon coming in for some smut comments.

There is no story here, and they conveniently "borrow" many scenes and concepts that were done on his other show Seinfeld every week, but especially here.

There were a few moments that made me laugh, but this continues to be a really bad final season of the show and ruining the legacy of Curb Your Enthusiasm in the entire process.

Good one!

Larry seldom disappoints. I generally laugh loudly at least once in most of the episodes. He has maintained the hilarity and absurdity going for a long time. This season also he hasn't disappointed me. It is really difficult to make anyone laugh and Larry has been able to achieve this for 12 seasons is quite commendable. This is one of my favourite shows of all time because of its unpredictable nature. In this season the acting of the maid is also quite suitable and enjoyable. Larry has been able conjure up some ridiculous siuations in this episode which make you amused and at the same time wonder about the genius of the man who has managed to keep us invested for such a long time.

Cringe-humor extraordinaire

I don't think there is a single human being alive on this Earth, living or dead who has more talent at dreaming up the most cringe inducing situations for comedic pleasure than Larry David. You would think that after 12 seasons of this formula the bits would start to become stale or the material would just run out but incredibly David's genius mind contains an inexaustible virtually unlimited supply of original content in which to showcase completely novel situattiations showcasing the most hilarious and cringe-worthy comedy gold. This episode was no exception.

From the text-chains-from-hell, to the housekeeper's "trowmah," to the sweatshirt string (I mean who hasn't had one of those come off a sweatshirt at least once? Leave it to David to figure out a way to make a comedy bit out of it!), to the desert bite size threshold for sending it back.....etc etc.... it's just honestly stupefying to watch this level of comedic quality episode after episode after episode, year after year after year without any noticeable drop in quality. If you ask me "Curb Your Enthusiasm" is without a doubt Larry David's true Magnum Opus, not Seinfeld.

Great Episode!

Curb Your Enthusiasm is my favorite show of all time and I love every episode. This "Dream Scheme" episode was great...my face hurts from laughing so hard. The dialogue is so funny and I love Vince Vaughn's character Freddy. The two of them fighting back and forth over keeping an eye on the child is absolutely hilarious.

Susie is really amazing as always and I love how the episode ends.

It is sad that the show is coming to an end, but I'm so thankful for every minute. This season is really strong and I completely disagree with any bad reviews. Those people have no sense of humor and are being idiots.

Worst episode ever

Warning: Spoilers
Housekeeper traumatized by walking into her rich bosses bedroom and witnessing oral sex? An acquaintance demanding Larry take care of his crazy daughter if he dies? Talking in your sleep to get out of responsibilities? All three plot points were simply stupid, and far fetched. Oh, and not funny either. I think it is time to hand the show over to JB Smoove, as he is the only one that generated a chuckle in this disaster of an episode. Can anyone explain how the artwork altered by the housekeeper was not discovered by Larry or the artist before they went to the gallery. At this point I am only typng to get to the minimum amount of characters required to [ost.

This one made me want to turn it off

Warning: Spoilers
I had a bad feeling ahead of this episode having enjoyed both episode 05 and episode 06 and being very familiar with the good-to-bad ratio in general. The sexual plot point I found most inappropriate for a man of that age and was unsettled that they could have retained it and decided to make it a key focus of one episode.

Some of the dialogue, including Larry's interaction with the young girl in the cafe felt overwritten and caricatural. The storyline around the man in the hospital required suspending disbelief so much that it was too reminiscent of a old sitcom.

The commentary on group chats was classic and deserved to feature in a much better episode.

Despite what she had witnessed at the beginning none of the maid's actions made any sense and the cleaner being lazy felt both cliche and entitled. The painting storyline could have worked if he had been a jerk to the artist and she had subsequently gone on to deconstruct his face so it looked like a Picasso with embarrassing details.

This is one of those episodes where the crass language, vulgar events and mean-spirited ideas, on top of to the carelessness with which they were brought together, reflected very poorly on the writers.

Not so funny anymore
nmottel18 March 2024
The older I get the more I realize that Hollywood celebrities are so busy patting themselves on the back they don't know when they are not entertaining. This is the case with Larry David and his sycophants. Curb Your Enthusiasm was brilliant, the key word being "was". Season 12 is simply not funny. Relying on oral sex jokes to fuel an episode is low brow, but worse BORING. Leon has outlived his function, Larry schlepping through life has become ho-hum. How many times did Larry set a Seinfeld scene in a hospital? We've seen it before and FUNNIER. The dream scheme was not original and to sit through it twice last night was tiresome. I am eager to see what big surprises Larry has planned for the sho'w finale. It is time to bid Curb a permanent good-bye.

Circling The Drain - Nearly Unwatchable
wiredranch18 March 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Is the show TRYING to be so unfunny we won't miss it? Nah - Larry David wouldn't care.

But wow, this one is bad. Like "turn it off" terrible (which I did twice last night as soon as it was released, struggling through the end this morning to see if there was ONE funny moment. Alas, there wasn't

It's out of ideas. "Callbacks" from previous episodes that were awful: LD being awakened at 3 am with the burglar led to the terrible addition of Sofia Maria, housekeeper walking in on inflatable doll was funnier but still cheap humor; faux dreams as an evasion strategy is absurd (ESPECIALLY when Freddy starts mumbling immediately after his supposed falling asleep). Oral sex was funnier when it had a remnant hair lodged in the throat - as was the cleaner's PTSD from Susie's foul mouth rather than a brief glimpse of a common act. Fighting over violin with obviously inevitable results reminds me of Chet's Shirt - predivtable and unfunny.

Larry would have rejected any demand on him by a couple he barely knows and would opt out of a text chain without a second thought. Leon adds nothing now, Jeff's parroting of every Larry line as if it was comedy gold is beyond played out, and Freddy continues to be the worst Funkhouser ever.

Ironically, Freddy from the original Frasier appears here as Wayland. Had he been rightfully cast as Frasier's son in the lame reboot, it might have been been SOMEWHAT interesting.

Sadly, Frasier II and Curb XII are the worst of what happens when you try to hold on too long. Two once great shows dying with a whimper.
