Arclight Films has taken on worldwide rights to the Chinese psychological crime thriller starring Archie Kao from Michael Mann’s upcoming Blackhat.
Head of Asian sales and acquisitions Elliot Tong has licensed Hong Kong rights to My Way Films and is in talks with buyers here.
Hong Kong actress Anita Yuen and Xiong Naijin also star in Eddie Tse’s directorial debut about a woman who is abducted and sent to a cave where she and other strangers must take part in a murderous game. Kao is pictured.
The Deathday Party is presented by Brightstar Cinema, China Film Co, Hengdian Movies, Orange Sky Golden Harvest and Emei Film Group. Amos Xue is the producer.

Archie Kao has been cast as a new series regular on NBC’s midseason series Chicago Pd. He’ll play Jin, who’s in charge of tech and surveillance at the Cpd Intelligence Unit in the Chicago Fire spinoff. Kao is best known for his role as lab technician Archie Johnson on CSI from 2001-2012. On the film side, he most recently wrapped the Michael Mann-directed Cyber and stars in the upcoming Love Speaks and The Deathday Party, a genre film for theatrical release through China Film Group. Kao is repped by Global Artists Agency and Echelon Talent Management. Genevieve Angelson has signed on to join Showtime’s House Of Lies, appearing in nine of the 12-episode third season.
