Director Kelvin Sng revealed in the same radio interview with Dawn Yeoh that the hawker centre featured in the movie is an actual one, where the actual hawkers were given monetary compensation for the usage of the hawker scenes in the movie.
In a radio interview to promote the movie, Dawn Yeoh revealed that she had to learn to cook bak chor mee, which her character did after inheriting her estranged mother's hawker stall. Also in the same interview, she mentioned she had to learn to speak Cantonese due to how her character Zhang Nala was previously staying in Hong Kong.
Dawn Yeoh, who plays the mother of a 20-year-old in the movie, is 37 years of age and a bachelorette at the time of the release of the movie. Gini Chang is 29 years of age at the release of the movie, and she plays the 20-year-old daughter of Dawn Yeoh's character.
