I enjoyed very much this excursion in the Périgord en quatre couleurs: beautiful landscapes and nice encounters.
There are some interesting aspects of this region: the gastronomy of the Périgord ( the famous smoked magret filled with foie gras, the "cul noir" pig of the Périgord, Pierre-Yves Théaud and the rescue of this pig breed, the delicious bacon, his wife Régine and the making of black pudding, Jean-Pierre and his oven and mill-the making of walnut oil-), the truffles of the Périgord (the truffle hunter Jacques Mathieu and his dog looking for truffles in the plantation of oak trees and hazelnut trees, the first controlled market of truffles at Saint-Albert, the "commissaire qualité" Marie-France, the 34 kilograms of truffles sold within some minutes), the British newcomers at Eymet (the British citizens are the 15 % of the global population of the village, Lynne who has bought a house and a garden and manages a guesthouse, the house painter Michael and his son Tyke who practices soccer with the friends of the village,Tim who came as agricultural worker and now is wine maker with 4 hectares of vineyard), the grotto of Villars (the discovery in 1953, the cave paintings), the speleologist Frederick Viales and the discovery of new caves (there are now 5901 registered cave in the Dordogne department), the Dhagpo Kagyu Ling Buddhist center at Saint-Léon-.sur-Vézère ( the opening of the center in 1974 with the arrival of Tibetan monks, Jean-Guy,the president of the center, the place open to all people who enjoy a moment of meditation, the arrival of newcomers) and Antoine de Tounens, king of Araucania and Patagonia (the writer François Gareye telling the story of Antoine de Tounens-the explorer who became great chief of the Mapuches-, Philippe Boiry, the Prince of Araucania-from 1951 to 2014- and the fight for the right of the Mapuches).
I enjoyed the encounters of Sophie with Valérie Gautherot and Eric Simonin at Brantôme, with Michel and Jean-Michel at Périgueux, with the manager of the guinguette Eric also in Périgueux, with with Olivier Roux and his family at the Moulin de la Jarousse, with the gardener Norbert at Terrasson, with Bernadette and Pamela at Bergerac, with Jacques Guyot, Catherine Guyot and and her daughter Alice at the Bridoire castle; nice encounters with very kind French men and women.
