Season one was great.
emld_200425 September 2020
Season one was great. After watching season two, I understand why and am thankful that they didn't have a season three. I do wish they had stuck with the original characters. The writers screwed up on season two.

They were on a roll and then ran off the tracks
ccarnein10 February 2020
This series started out great. The characters were adults, and the plots were a bit Byzantine, but weren't impossible if you paid attention. The two main characters were a beautiful, intelligent and independent-minded genealogist and a 30-something detective who was interesting--meticulously dressed and groomed and a bit of a fuss-pot who played the cello for fun. One could guess that both characters had secrets that weren't being revealed by the first season's 6 shows--hence my interest in seeing Season Two.

So, then, along came the second season. The interesting, beautiful genealogist was replaced by a pushy, somewhat abrasive woman who doesn't seem to know anything about genealogy (but shares the same name as the original character) and reminds me of the standard somewhat dumb assistant in American cop shows. I have no idea what her part in this confused mess is supposed to be. And the detective suddenly grew a stubble, mussed up his hair, and started wearing jeans to work--in short, he became the standard American adult-male-hiding-as-a-teenager TV star. He's about as good a match for the new co-star as Sherlock Holmes would be for a waitress in a diner (but they'll probably hook up, given the logic of season two). Add to that a pouty 9-year-old who's far smarter than her years (or any of the adults on the show) and you wonder what the series' producers could be thinking.

Watch the first 6 episodes and pretend this show doesn't have a second season.

Changing Margot
certzberger29 December 2019
Changing the actress who portrays Margot was the worst decision possible. You've completely reuined a wonderful show.

OMG -the body snatchers Season 2 -Mickey replaced for being too old-
braquecubism30 October 2019
SHAMEFUL! I am not considering this a spoiler to tell you they changed the actor for Margot in Season 2- The chemistry between Mickey and Julien was wonderful. He is a-dor-a-ble. There is none of the contrived drama with dark secrets, addictions and hidden pasts. The relationship is spontaneous and genuine. checking the bio- she turned 60- 2014 (55) she looks great- older than Julien's, than 38- they are contemporaries with no love interest. Suddenly season 2- there is a new woman, closer to Julien's age, different look (not actress model thin, a little heavy, OK normal looks) in a different apartment BTW. After about 20 minutes, I realize she has the same name as Mickey (Margot)- and is introduced as the "assistant" who is a "genealogist". I couldn't believe it. Like the body snatchers- or a Changling, a new actress in the same role. This new actress would be OK for a supporting Police; but is bad compared to Mickey, and it just doesn't work. BUT the point is they replaced Mickey for Being "too old" - AND also RUINED the series. Replacing the main character as if we wouldn't notice or care. They didn't even have the good sense, to introduce her as a new character, maybe an esteemed associate, and give some explanation that Margot had to go to Timbuktu to study a ruin. Mickey, as Margot, Is a genial, published author with charm, wit, life experience, and a love of her science, and helping others. From the 1st episode there is a rapport and respect between the 2. Tom Selleck is 72 (& looks it); Liam Neeson is still playing action hero at 67. I could go on. This is SO offensive. Reports are she was replaced because she was too old. any relationship from season 1 is lost- Margot has a Nun who does research for her- the convent did computer work & Archiving for The Diocese and others. the new Margot calls Julien at home in the evening, and he is annoyed, and says, I'll give you 5 minutes. WTF- he is alone on the couch in his shorts having a drink. And, in passing he makes passes at his new female boss; really...... everyone is 40+ and available too. they have made him more "impatient". and also BTW- season 2, the killer used a "painters knife" at hand" to kill- they are meant for spreading and mixing paint. they are too weak and not constructed like a knife- wouldn't pierce flesh no matter how much force. sure, could make a nasty injury, but kill, no. OMG, get your details straight- Julien, why didn't you protest- they took a solid 7-8 star show- with decent plot lines, and enjoyable characters (the support police actors are good too) in a wonderful French city, only old streets & buildings. Marseille. Being a major port, there would be a lot of crime involved from drugs to smuggling; never comes up. no homeless, no gangs. We never see the port. This may be the biggest inlet for drugs in France. frankly even tho it's on Amazon; I think I have to boycott season 2 in protest. I would say it doesn't play the same; and my head is still spinning from the audacity.

They killed it with the actress switch
lloydarm7 November 2019
Warning: Spoilers
First season really good, with wonderful chemistry between the stars, interesting stories. Second season -horror- suave sympa female lead replaced by crass aggressive totally non-sympa lead. The writers changed the character to go with the new actress ( terrible actress, being affronted her go to response). And the writers thought they could just slip this new persona in without the stupid audience noticing, so no name change. If you liked the first season, you will be unable to stand more than the first episode of the second. What a massive disappointment!

I would have given it 10 but the change of Margot was terrible
linda-export29 October 2020
Ruined the show to the point I can't watch it anymore. I loved it before. Origines was perfect when Micky Sebastian was Margot.if you replace a character, at least have her move on and develop a new character. New casting is terrible.

I wish I could rate season 1 and 2 separately
dorfner5927 April 2020
Season 1 had interesting stories and great chemistry between the actors. Season 2 thew switched out the actress for Margot and gave Arthur a hip make over. It's like two different shows. Season one gets a 9 Season 2 a 3.

Why don't producers poll more of the audience as MICKY SEBASTIAN made this with the original cast of season 1
eilishmccaffrey5 February 2021
I endured some light weightness of plots; some convoluted story lines etc...I endured this as it as a show in season 1 with ensenble cast that seemed solid. THey deserved time to work together and to be given solid scripts and production support. I thought there was great chemistry with Margot and her detective partner. I am going to give season 2 a go BUT it isn't NEARLY as interesting as what Margot/Micky Sebastian brought to the role. Disappointing to say the last..

Captured by Aliens?
ourbiz28 June 2020
That must have been what happened to the show runners here.

The first season of this show was terrific. Interesting stories; good acting; interesting characters and then BOOM! Some idiot blew up the show.

I can only assume that someone somewhere did not want this show to go beyond two seasons, and Season Two is the way to be sure that happens. Hey, we have two attractive lead characters with a good supporting cast and interesting stores. What can we do about that? How about replacing the lead actress, and turning her male counterpart in to a cliché?

Worked for me. This show is off my viewing list.

Should not have changed lead actress
dianna7294 January 2021
Season 1 with Micky Sebastian playing Margot was great and there was chemistry between the characters. She was eclectic and smart and fun. Once they changed to another lead actress to play Margot for season 2 everything changed. It changed everything. The whole feel of the show changed. Watch season one. Forget season two.

Ruined what could have been an amazing long term show
jmfwk3 January 2021
Season one was so good. Great chemistry and loved Margot - with her compassion and playful teasing - she was a charmer. She made the show. And season two just switches her out with a new actress and completely changes the character's personality. And insults the audience in the process. I loved the first season - they lost me with season two. The powers that be blew it big time with this show.

Great Season 1
carreonguiselle5 November 2020
Season 1 was fun and interesting. Season 2 character replacement made no sense. Writers, director, producer...someone decided it was a good idea to change the actress with someone not in the least bit similar to the prior actress. The development and chemistry failed miserably. Too bad.

Someone messed up BIG time!
swiftlytoo28 September 2023
10 for the first season and I can't give you a rating for the second since you blew it. The original Margot made the show with her warm smile and expertise. So enjoyable to watch didn't mind a bit the need to read subtitles but as soon as I started to watch episode seven you lost me. What a dumb move! Now if you could only rewrite and reshoot what you have botched you would have a great 10. Why would you eve-mess with a good thing? Admit your mistake call her up and apologize give her a massive raise and fix this in season three and with the right.publicly you may regain what I'm sure is at least three quarters of the fans you lost.

Season 1, Wonderful! Skip Season 2
kathrynkeeler2 September 2023
Warning: Spoilers
We LOVED Season 1 with the original Margot and original prosecutor. Season 2, they switch them out with no reason. There is no explanation of the absence of the original two. They're just GONE.

Why do producers do this? Season 1 is great. Don't waste your time on the second season. There is none of the interaction between the actors/actresses in Season 1. It's dull, lifeless and flat.

I won't watch another episode and I'm irritated that my husband thinks I should watch the entire episode and give it a chance. My verdict is in, I'm not watching one more moment of this.

This has incredible potential, but as always, the producers assumed we were all too stupid to realize they'd ruined the series.

Season 1 worth watching. Don't waste another moment on Season 2.

Poor script
qui_j5 September 2020
This series tried desperately to have a bit of everything, humor, mystery, murder etc. It just failed miserably on all fronts. The humor is typically French, which does not translate well and comes across as being very childish. The plots are unnecessarily complicated with minimal connecting dots to provide any sort of continuity. Just could not get into it at all and gave up midway in the first season.
