  [ask she explains, several brief cuts to Cosima and Scott building a device in their lab] 

  Cosima Niehaus : So force equals mass... times... acceleration. How can we get the pencil through this paper, do you think?

  Kira : We need to make it sharper?

  Cosima Niehaus : That's a really good idea. High five for that. What about trying speed? What about acceleration? Maybe give that a shot?
