The question of the creature that fell from the sky, arose after the release of the first promos and trailers for the first season of The Rings of Power.
The sneak peek even showed the meteorite fall scene almost in its entirety: a bright ball of light crossed the entire sky, caught the eyes of all the main characters, and fell in Rhovanion.
There Are Many Hints in The Rings of Power Season 1 that The Stranger is Gandalf
The man was found by two Harfoots, the curious Nori and her more cautious friend Poppy. When the man climbed out of the hole left by the meteorite's fall, several things became clear: he possesses magic, but does not speak any language known to the Harfoots and cannot remember anything, including his name.

Despite the rash of projects set in the world of "The Lord of the Rings" that have come to our attention lately -- a steadily-growing list that includes multiple upcoming movies, one streaming series, and even video games -- fans of "The Rings of Power" have had no choice but to sit on their hands for quite some time now. Season 1 of the Prime Video series came to an end back in October of 2022, leaving viewers on some pretty significant cliffhangers. The unassuming Southlander Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) had been unmasked as the Dark Lord Sauron himself (though only after helping create the three elven rings), our heroes were left scattered in the aftermath of a bloody battle with an army of orcs, and we all witnessed the birth of Mordor and Mount Doom itself in one of the final scenes.
That lengthy wait ... isn't quite over just yet, admittedly, but...

Despite failures with recent titles, the recent trend in live-service games does not look like it’s slowing down anytime soon. Rocksteady’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League and Avengers failed miserably as a live title but then sprung Helldivers 2 out of nowhere to achieve the unexpected success that surprised every other studio.
On the flipside, though, the success of Helldivers 2 has now reopened the doors to more live projects, just when studios seemed to shy away from them. Despite past failed projects, WB Games is now recruiting for a role to assist Monolith Productions (MP).

The 34-year-old British actor Nicholas Hoult kicked off production last week on Warner Bros. Discovery’s next big bet: “Superman” with director James Gunn and actors David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan. The star of “About a Boy,” “Mad Max: Fury Road,” and Hulu series “The Great” recently went on Michael Rosenbaum’s “Inside of You” podcast and talked a bit about preparing for the role of the evil mastermind Lex Luthor.
First, he complimented his new boss Gunn for making the audition process fun. He said he enjoyed the “Guardians of the Galaxy” auteur’s method of “try[ing] things in the moment, just shouting out from the monitors, ‘Say this line. Do this! Do that!’”
Then he added that even though Luthor is better known for his brains rather than his brawn, Hoult has been hitting the weights. “There’s that bit in ‘All-Star Superman’ [the Grant Morrison and Frank Quitely...

The latest “The Walking Dead” spinoff, “The Ones Who Live,” premieres on AMC Feb. 25, reuniting Andrew Lincoln’s Rick Grimes and Dana Gurira’s Michonne for the first time since 2018 and Season 9 of the long-running zombie show. But the two aren’t the only familiar “Walking Dead” faces stepping back into the fray, with sometimes-ally-sometimes-foe Jadis joining the action once more.
For Scottish actress Pollyanna McIntosh, who joined as Jadis midway through Season 7, “The Ones Who Live” present her with a unique accolade, with her becoming the first actor to star in three different “The Walking Dead” series, having also appeared in 2020’s spinoff “World Beyond.”
Speaking to Variety, McIntosh — who recently moved from Los Angeles to Dublin, Ireland — explains how her career could have taken a very different path from apocalyptic zombies were it not for a video game.

Apple TV+ series “Masters of the Air” is the third collaboration from the team behind HBO’s “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific.” Trio Tom Hanks, Gary Goetzman and Steven Spielberg produced the nine-part World War II epic series, which spotlights the men who fought in the 8th Air Force, specifically the men of the 100th Bomb Group. The vivid and vital story finds roots in the book of the same name by Donald L. Miller.
The crew of a typical Eighth Air Force heavy bomber plane included ten men — a pilot and his co-pilot flying the B17, the navigator and the bombardier in the machine’s nose, the flight engineer behind the pilot, the radio operator, two waist gunners, a ball turret gunner and a tail gunner. Not to mention the men who strategized from the bases, the plane engineers and Tuskegee airmen or Royal Airforce pilots who feature in this story.

The common thread that unites all James Wan movies is sincerity. The director of modern horror classics like "Saw," "Insidious," and "The Conjuring," blockbuster behemoths like "Furious 7" and "Aquaman," and beloved cult items like "Dead Silence" and "Malignant" doesn't allow a single shred of snark or cynicism into his movies. Even his horror movies wear their hearts on their sleeves, which means this is doubly true for his bigger movies aimed at a massive worldwide audience. The first "Aquaman" made over a billion bucks by staying true to its goofball nature. In troubled times, it's clear audiences are buying Wan's particular brand of earnestness.
Wan's latest film, "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom," opens in theaters this week, and I had the opportunity to sit down with the filmmaker over Zoom to chat all about it. We talked about drumming octopuses and how the world of "Aquaman" carries the...

Where are the Skins cast now? Short answer: absolutely everywhere.
While the show did earn critical acclaim as well as a cult following over the course of its seven series, when this scrappy teen comedy drama launched on E4 in 2007 few could have predicted just how many household names it would spawn.
Among Skins’ impressive alumni are actors who went on to win Oscars and Baftas, play lead roles in hit movies like Slumdog Millionaire and Get Out, not to mention star in hit shows like Game of Thrones and Peaky Blinders.
Let’s take a look at some of the Skins cast’s best roles:

“Boarders” will star Josh Tedeku (“Supacell”), Jodie Campbell (“Bulletproof”) and Myles Kamwendo (“The School for Good and Evil”) alongside Sekou Diaby and Aruna Jalloh, both making their screen debuts. Lawrence Taylor will play a mentor figure to the students.

AppleTV+’s “Schmigadoon!” took a bold leap in its second season by transplanting its snarky, sympathetic central couple (Keegan Michael-Key and Cecily Strong) from the “Corn Puddin’” territory of musical theater’s golden age to the torn-stocking, cleaver-wielding recesses of the 1970s, with a little hippie free love thrown in for good measure.
Tony-winning choreographer Christopher Gattelli shepherded the series through the complete opposite of a sophomore slump, as “Schmicago!” (the new sort-of title card seen in the opening credits) gave us the old razzle-dazzle in eye-popping dance numbers even more effervescent than the first season’s candy-colored hoedowns (which Gattelli received an Emmy nom for). The affable, versatile choreographer chatted with TheWrap about getting Jane Krakowski back on a trapeze after 20 years, corralling children for big numbers and why primetime dance-competition shows are to thank for bringing the form roaring back to the small screen.

There’s a recent meme, created in the wake of so many Aaa developers releasing mediocre games under crunch conditions, expressing the need for shorter games with worse graphics made by people paid more to work less. That’s a sentiment worth rooting for, but Lord of the Rings: Gollum really presses up against the limits of the goodwill behind it.
Indeed, this is a game that looks like a remastered PS3 title, only one that plays like a PC game from the early 2000s. That’s not a problem in and of itself—the same mentality that’s made boomer shooters a flourishing genre can be applied successfully to the puzzle-platformer—but just like the character at its center, Gollum is in sad, broken shambles, held together only by the faint belief that the good things about it are enough to make its existence worthwhile.
And those good things are mostly narrative ones,...

Exclusive: One notable title up for sale we’re hearing about at the European Film Market is Timothy Scott Bogart’s pop Romeo & Juliet musical, Verona starring Clara Rugaard, Jamie Ward, Rebel Wilson, Rupert Everett, Jason Isaacs and Derek Jacobi.
Verona will be the first film in a original pop musical trilogy based around the real-life 1301 story that inspired Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet. A wide theatrical releaser this Christmas is being planned.
Bogart tells us, “We’ve set out to tell the greatest love story of all time, set to the musical pulse of our time. But Shakespeare only told part of that remarkable tale whose events changed the course of history!”
Voltage is handling international sales on Verona.
Bogart recently directed the 1970s-1980s set feature Spinning Gold about his record label exec father Neil Bogart’s rise and fall with Casablanca Records. That pic is coming out on March 31 in theaters.

I’ve watched a lot of TV this year. I wake up in the morning, brew a pot of coffee, and sit down to watch television until my eyes go square in their sockets. It’s a quotidian world of ticking time bombs, raunchy rutting, and liberally littered laughs.
The following 10 shows represent my favourites from the past 12 months. Some were watched for work and some were watched for pleasure, but all were immensely enjoyable. In a year dominated by two blockbuster fantasy shows – HBO’s Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon and Amazon’s Tolkien epic The Rings of Power – the work I enjoyed most erred on the side of the irreverent. Funny, cynical, moving, thrilling; there’s a little of everything on this list.

Kevin Conroy, the voice of Batman in shows like "Batman: The Animated Series," "Batman Beyond," films like "Batman: The Killing Joke," and "Batman: Gotham Knight," and over two dozen video games, has died at the age of 66 after a brief battle with cancer. This Lord of the Rings article contains spoilers for The Rings of Power.
Where is Sauron? Is the Stranger actually our beloved wizard Gandalf the Grey? When will The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power introduce some actual magical rings?
These were some of the questions on the minds of fans awaiting the season one finale of the prequel series, which chronicles the events of the Second Age, the era before the J.R.R. Tolkien books and Peter Jackson movies you know and love. Fortunately, the finale addresses many of the show’s biggest mysteries, and in captivating fashion. While some questions have been left hanging for season two to deal with — what’s up with the Balrog now awake inside Khazad-dum? — it’s safe to say we get more than our fair share of answers.
For example, after weeks of theories, rumors, and speculation, the veil has been...

The Rings of Power’s biggest season one secret is out: Sauron has been hiding in plain sight as Halbrand, the Aragorn-like drifter who pretended — or, at least, allowed Galadriel to believe — that he was a long-lost king of the Southlands.
Showrunners J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay gave The Hollywood Reporter some insight into the thought process of introducing the Dark Lord as a charming “low man,” and also teased what comes next for the character in season two.
“What’s in the [The Lord of the Rings books] is an all encompassing evil that everyone is afraid of, and is so powerful, it doesn’t even have to be manifested physically,” McKay says. “He’s an image of an eye in [Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings] films, he’s the eye on the tower. Spoiler Alert: This article contains details of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power Season 1 finale, which just dropped on Amazon Prime Video tonight. For even more on the Lotr season closer, check out Deadline’s Inside the Ring, the Rings of Power after show on October 15. Right now, watch past episodes here.
“Season 2 is fundamentally different in that our main villain is out and about, and doing his thing,” The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power executive producer Lindsey Weber reveals of what’s coming in Amazon Prime Video’s next installment of its J.R.R. Tolkien adaptation. “I think in some ways, it’s going to grittier, more intense, maybe a little scarier,” the EP adds.
That villain is of course Sauron, and the just released Season 1 finale unveiled would-be blacksmith and King of the Southlands Halbrand (Charlie Vickers) to be the deposed Dark Lord himself.

This week's episode of "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" takes place in the shadow of disaster, as the ash cloud of Mount Doom darkens the skies of what will soon be called Mordor and sends a good chunk of core characters into a red-tinged nightmare. Among them are elf Galadriel (Morfydd Clark) and human boy Theo (Tyroe Muhafidin), two unlikely allies who share a moment of connection amidst the chaos. In an interview with /Film's Vanessa Armstrong, episode director of photography Alex Disenhof spoke about the power of their moment, and the detail that went into lighting what's meant to be a moonlit scene.
"One of my favorite scenes in the two episodes is the moment under the logs with Galadriel and Theo, because from a story standpoint, it's one of the first times you see Galadriel show a bit of a softer side," Disenhof says,...

Come for the harfoots; stay for the horror. That seems to be the approach "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" is taking. The series just delivered its best, most action-packed episode yet with "Udûn," and it was all about stakes: making us feel the danger as an army of orcs, led by Benjen Stark Adar (Joseph Mawle), bore down on the Southlands.
Just last week, we were listening to harfoots sing a nice gentle walking song in "The Rings of Power," but they were nowhere to be seen this week. Instead, the elf Arondir (Ismael Cruz Córdova) and his forbidden human love interest, de facto village leader Bronwyn (Nazanin Boniadi), took center stage for the first part of the episode, and we got more than a bit of the old ultraviolence as they sought to defend the Southlands against the incursion of said orc army.

It’s still a huge relief that “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has been rolling out on a weekly basis. More a strategic decision than a purely creative one, the idea was almost definitely to give this massive Prime Video adaptation a weekly chance to not only remind TV viewers of its existence, but to carve out a decent chunk of the fall TV conversation every Friday.
Aside from the obligatory back-patting viewership numbers released after the show’s debut a few weeks ago, we don’t have any solid facts about just how many people are taking in these episodes on a regular basis. So instead, gauging interest becomes an anecdotal guessing game. “Rings of Power” hasn’t been the culture-engulfing phenomenon that those signing off on the show’s price tag might have been hoping for, but with a little under half the season left,...

[Runs in breathlessly while you're watching "The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers" at home] Did you know Viggo Mortensen broke his toes in the scene where Aragorn kicks a helmet across the ground?!!
Okay, yes, this is likely a piece of trivia that anyone who's even remotely into Peter Jackson's "The Lord of the Rings" films has absorbed by now. Still, Mortensen was far from the only actor to suffer a nasty injury during production on Jackson's Tolkien adaptation. Sean Astin sliced his foot; Orlando Bloom broke a rib falling off his horse; Brett Beattie, who served as John Rhys-Davies' stand-in, dislocated his knee. Most horrifically of all, Dominic Monaghan got a tiny splinter in his foot while shooting the Bucklebury Ferry scene for "The Fellowship of the Ring." Who knew making a sweeping 300 million fantasy war epic on-location in New Zealand could be so treacherous?

It’s hard to believe 2022 is almost over. Kids are returning back to school, the seasons will start to change, and the fall television lineup will be here before you know it. With that, it’s time to start prioritizing what shows to give your free time to. Amazon Prime Video is going for broke this September, with the massive undertaking that is their adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” series, but that’s not all. Let’s take a look on everything coming to Amazon Prime Video in September.
The biggest show coming to Amazon Prime Video is, of course, the aforementioned “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.” Though not associated with the spate of films directed by Peter Jackson as it’s a prequel, the trailers are playing up an equally ambitious and opulent sense of filmmaking. Amazon Prime Video is trying something different,...

Starz has unveiled the trailer for the upcoming historical drama “The Serpent Queen” starring Samantha Morton as Catherine de Medici. The wicked new drama series will premiere on Sunday, September 11th.
A historical drama with an edge, “The Serpent Queen” puts a contemporary spin on conventional storytelling to tell the tale of Catherine de Medici’s (Morton) rise to power. In the series premiere, “Medici Bitch,” Catherine’s tale unfolds through flashbacks as she defends her actions and imparts the lessons she’s learned to her new servant confident, Rahima. At 14, the young, orphaned Catherine marries into the 16th-century French court. Despite her commoner status, her uncle Pope Clement, has negotiated a large dowry and a geopolitical alliance in return for the union, and with it comes the expectation of many heirs. However, on her wedding night, Catherine learns that her new husband is in love with Diane de Poitiers,...

The Lord of the Rings, the property that became a founding mythology for modern geek culture, returned to San Diego Comic-Con Friday with Amazon showing off a new trailer for the mega-budget The Rings of Power TV series. “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” Amazon Prime Video’s massive fantasy TV series based on the works of author J.R.R. Tolkien, made its biggest splash yet at San Diego Comic-Con on Friday, with a brand new trailer that revealed the most complete picture yet for what is in store on the show. The Comic-Con panel was moderated by “Lord of the Rings” super-fan Stephen Colbert.

Amazon spared no expense on the panel, which included wrap-around screens unveiled with a booming introduction that literally shook the walls of Hall H and no less than 25 participants who cycled through the stage in groups — and then all joined at the end for a brief Q&a with the audience.

At first glance, this seems like it should be a really short article. Question: What works of Jrr Tolkien does Amazon have the rights to use for its upcoming series The Rings of Power? Answer: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, including its Appendices, but nothing else. End of article.
But.
Between an extremely complicated legal situation, persistent online rumours about possible changes in the Tolkien Estate’s approach, and the nature of some of Tolkien’s posthumously published works, the situation is a bit more complicated that it might at first appear. So what are Jrr Tolkien’s posthumously published works, what is so complicated about the legal issues, and is it possible for the Amazon series to draw on these books?

The show marks the second Apple series in which Boyle will star. He is also set to appear in the Apple World War II drama “Masters of the Air.” His recent TV credits include “The Plot Against America” at HBO,...

Amazon Prime Video’s “Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” premieres on the streaming platform September 2, but already J.R.R. Tolkien fans are criticizing casting choices.
Vanity Fair exclusively debuted first look images of the upcoming series, featuring 22 lead cast members and multiple storylines ranging from “deep within the dwarf mines of the Misty Mountains to the high politics of the elven kingdom of Lindon and the humans’ powerful, Atlantis-like island, Númenor.”
Showrunners Patrick McKay and Jd Payne were well aware of the pressures of creating a spinoff from the iconic series.
The Amazon series features a wide range of diverse stars in Middle-earth. There’s the silvan elf Arondir, played by Ismael Cruz Córdova, the first person of color to play an elf in a Tolkien screen project. There’s Bronwyn, a human healer played by British-Iranian actor Nazanin Bonjadi; Sophia Nomvete as the first Black woman playing...

The first trailer for the TV series “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” will debut on Super Bowl Sunday, Amazon Prime Video announced on Monday.
The teaser will cap off the first wave of promotion for the massively ambitious show, which launched Jan. 19 when Amazon unveiled the full title for the series in an elaborate video that involved real molten metal. Two weeks later, the streamer debuted 23 individual character posters for each of the show’s central cast that focused on their hands.
Set to debut worldwide on Prime Video on Sept. 2, “The Rings of Power” is the rare streaming series to earn a major promotional cycle more than six months before its debut, which is fitting given that Amazon spent roughly $465 million on the first season alone — on top of the $250 million the company spent to secure the rights to the series from author J.R.R. Tolkien’s estate.
