The film is based on a short story found in the liner notes of the record "Prowler in the Yard" by Pig Destroyer.
The cigarettes actor Jake Martin smokes are packed with parsley. Martin smoked over 60 cigarettes during the film's two-day shoot.
In early 2013, writer/director John Pata reached out to the band Pig Destroyer to pitch his idea for the film. After multiple conversations, he officially secured the rights to adapt the story.
For the exterior shots, the crew brought in a fire truck to create the rain. Two garden sprinkler heads were used for everything else. The sprinkler heads cost $1.98 each.
